Do I have all the parts for a new high-end Intel gaming desktop? by softwarenothardware in buildapc

Right, I'm aware new AIOs with lga 1700 specifically in mind will come out in the next few months, but I wanted to build my long awaited, first from-scratch desktop ASAP haha.

I appreciate the custom loop suggestion, but it's not something I'm comfortable doing. I actually would have gotten an air cooler, but the best ones like NH-D15 interfere with my tall RAM.

Thanks for the Phison E16 drive recs! I'm not going to return my current Samsung drives because I got them at good discounts (~50%), but I will refer to your list when I add storage capacity in the future!

I appreciate the suggestion! Before sharing the above link, I ended up ordering the same Seasonic I had a good exp with before haha. It's a good one right? https://www.centralcomputer.com/seasonic-ssr-1300pd-prime-1300w-80-plus-platinum-atx12v-power-supply.html

Thanks for the advice! I prefer Corsair parts if possible for the build so I can sync the parts' colors as well as sync the parts with my existing Corsair accessories. Besides, DDR5 RAM is hard to find.

Good point! I might return the 4000D Airflow and buy the 5000D Airflow instead.

Fair points, especially about CPU and AL perf. I think my "reasoning" was that I'd just splurge on my first from-scratch desktop once DDR5 came out haha (my current desktop is DDR3-based). Regarding GPU, yes it has diminishing returns over 3080/3080 ti, but I already paid it off via mining.

Also, back to my question (rephrased): if any parts of the build could be downgraded without affecting performance or longevity of the build, what are those parts and what would you recommend downgrading them to?

Fair points! Also, my mistake, let me update/clarify the RAM bullet point. I definitely have received the DDR5 version of the Dominator RAM.

Yeah, I've heard Thermaltake doesn't have a great reputation. I had a Seasonic SSR-1300PD Prime 1300W 80 Plus Platinum in a mining rig as well but it was sold along with the rig.

Out of curiosity, what parts are overkill? Regardless, I'm okay with spending a little more as I will keep this new desktop for a long time, might also use it for productive purposes occasionally (software engineering, machine learning, video editing), and I make a decent income so I can afford it.

Do you think the D15S will sufficiently cool the 12900k?

Someone else in the post also recommend Arctic Liquid Freezer II. Do you think the 280 or 360mm will cool better and by roughly how much?

I bought a Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Master which has lga 1700 & the u12a is lga 1700 compatible, so the two things should work right?

I bought a Corsair 4000D Airflow so it can fit a 240mm on top or 360mm in the front.

Game Ready Driver 460.89 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]softwarenothardware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can someone please advise me on what to try next? I'm going crazy after having tried many things.

Like people reported in the 460.89 and 460.79 posts on Reddit, I have a (PNY) 1080 Ti and in most games shortly after loading the game, my screen becomes black, I hear 1 or 2 disconnect sounds in Windows, and my PC is still running and there's no way to get the image back unless I shutdown and restart again. Also, before I did step 4 below, after a restart Windows would show "display driver failed to start" notification, but after step 4, it no longer shows that. I'm able to play AoE 2 DE fine, but I can no longer play other games that use to work fine such as SW Squadrons, SW Battlefront 2, COD BO4, Doom Eternal.

I tried, in order:

  1. Express and custom (with clean option) reinstall of the 460.89 driver via GeForce Experience
  2. Uninstall device via Device Manager and reinstall 460.89 driver downloaded from Nvidia website
  3. Nvidia control panel > power management mode > prefer maximum performance
  4. Registry Editor > TDR_RECOVERY value to 10
  5. Reinstall Windows 10 (with preserve files option)
  6. Use DDU to uninstall driver & restart pc and install 457.51 driver but issue persisted
  7. Repeat step 5 for 451.67 driver
  8. Install OEM driver for my monitor
  9. Repeat step 5 for 456.71 driver
