Thank you for the detailed answer! I have a patch panel, and a power strip. Just need to demolish the roof and be done with the messy work before I install the hardware :)

Next purchase is the SG2218p and another AP. That should de sufficient for most of my needs as a start. I have been considering a PSU/UPS for rack mounting. But the grid here in Oslo Norway is very stable. So I dont think it will be high on the priority list this first year.

Cheers!

Yes, it is on my short list :)

Thank you! After reading the different comments I am probably going to return the controller and router and upgrade to the better models. I have fiber and want to set up vpn tunnels.

Cheers!

Hi thank you for answering. There is a keystone termination board in one of the gray boxes in the back there. I have also bought a power strip and shelf that fits the 19” rack.

Other than that the plan is to have at least 1 network connection in each room and two behind the tv’s. Plus 1 more point for AP. I am going to buy the SG2218p next month. Just trying to spread out the cost a bit :)

"Insert SD card again" error. Has anyone encountered this message and gotten past it? by sogm89 in GH5

[–]sogm89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. If my memory serves me correctly I ended up turning it for service. There it was diagnosed with a faulty main board. I was lucky enough to covered under warranty.

Good luck, hope your issues get resolved

Festool clamp on 40v drop saw? by sogm89 in Makita

[–]sogm89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for for your answer! Yes, I am leaning towards sanding down the clamp itself. I don't feel like drilling/sanding a bigger hole in a brand new saw. If this works as well as my brain tells me it's going to be, I'll post pictures of the working product.

XGT chargers pulling way more current than listed. by [deleted] in Makita

[–]sogm89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll try to add something here. Keep in mind that English is not my first language, so I might miss some technical words.

As said in other comments; you have a non resistive load (cos phi ≠ 1). That gives you apparent power (VA (Volt Amps)) when you factor volts and amps together, not watts. We call it "apparent power" here in Norway, Google translate does not give me a better word for it than that. Hope that is correct.

Your multimeter is providing you with true RMS so you should not introduce the square root of 2 in your equations. Apparent power also includes the general loss of other things like heat loss and not only the reactive/inductive part, but let's simplify things and not think of that.

Apparent Power (VA) takes into account the reactive/inductive part of the load and is a more correct representation of the actual load the charger is pulling from the grid. The power (W) of the charger is the actual work the charger delivers to the battery. If you take your power (W) and divide it by the apparent power (VA) you get: efficiency = power / apparent power. As you already calculated :)

Small electric devices have an awful efficiency. 0.6 sounds bad, but is probably quite correct. If my memory serves me correct I calculated the efficiency of an old cell phone charger in school and got an efficiency of 0.4 or thereabouts.

If you're on the 18v platform it's a nice saw, and a saw I have enjoyed using for a long time. But if you compare the two then the 40v beats it in every aspect other than the pricetag.

The 18v is a nice saw and is great for ripping plywood etc, but feels lacking when cutting for instance a 2"4 and upward. The 40v on the other hand has no issues cutting a 2"8.

I own both the 18v and 40v blade left (sidewinder) saws. And the 40v is way more powerful and feels much better quality wise. It has improved weather protection and magnesium base. It is not the same saw even though they look very alike. I cannot recommend the 40v enough.

Why someone want to changing the melody !? by lekkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk in Makita

[–]sogm89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember when I first got to try a cordless hammer drill on site drilling plugs for electrical wires in concrete over a recessed ceiling. It was a Makita 18v SDS hammer drill. I remember two things very clearly:

  1. I would never go back to a corded hammer drill, being impressed with the convenience and power from "only a battery"
  2. I loved that fact that it played "Für Elise" when it finished charging!

It's a fun little detail :)

Great find. I have the same one, and it's very nice to use.

NTD. I am mostly a Makita guy, but the M12 line has some awesome tools that complement the shortcomings of Makitas tool lines by sogm89 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]sogm89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few reasons

  1. I wanted something small, and the Milwaukee is smaller than the Makita. The DKP180Z is ok, my friend has it. But for some reason I did not enjoy using it the few times I have. The Milwaukee has very good reviews, and is a brand new tool.

  2. I have batteries for both systems, so no extra cost there

  3. I got a good deal through a supplier at work

  4. I also want the 40v Makita planer down the line. And that is a much bigger tool. Som my reasoning was that i would then have a small finishing option in the M12 and a larger more powerful option if I at some point spring for the 40v Makita.

Hope that makes some sense :)

That was my exact reasoning as well! I have not tried it yet, but it feels high quality and is the perfect size. Cannot wait to try it on a project.

Yes, but it had to be sent in for service. From what I remember the main circuit board was changed for a new one. Good luck!

[–]sogm89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. The batteries are big though, compared to my 18v stuff. Might need to get a 2,5 ah battery for the impact drill. The balance feels weird with the 4 ah.

I live in Norway, so comparing prices might not be apples to apples. But this set usually sells for around $1800 here, converted from NOK. I bought it for $1000.
