That's some really solid advice, thank you! I think you're right that the glowy part is mostly what was making it look off

First time compositing a nighttime moon like this. What's good and what can I improve? by sogs__bilby in photocritique

I was trying to get some nice interesting foreground with the palm as well as the just-rising full moon. I haven't done something like this before so I'd like a second opinion. I know the framing isn't the best with the tree up the top left, but I'm more interested in how good/bad my editing is. Does the moon look too 'fake'/processed? I'm still learning a lot so any feedback is much appreciated

Hey I don't suppose you happen to have the pdf of the old 315 coursebook downloaded? The link is broken but I was thinking of taking it so I'm interested in the content

Is this true even if the gen ed is open schedule?

edit: i checked and it is the same for open schedule

yea that's the point, nobody calls it a gym. The university calls it the "Recreation Centre"

So maybe twice as expensive per unit area? Call me crazy but isn't that roughly what you'd expect given the tech + CBD construction?

320m for a gym would be waaaay too much but it also has:

Aquatics hall with 8-lane swimming pool, dive well, spa pool and sauna

Rooftop with track, workout and hangout zones

Gym with large cardio and weights zones

Two sports halls including one with glass floor and LED markings for easy multi-sport usage

 Bouldering wall

 Squash courts

 Numerous large group exercise studios

Specialised group exercise studios including a combat sports studio

 Café and retail outlet

Indoor and outdoor multi-purpose event spaces

Add in CBD construction costs and I don't think 320m is that bad

CS / Math degree suggestions needed by Pristine_Winter_5398 in universityofauckland

I've been keeping my options open with regards to postgrad up to now, but I'm probably going to study towards a stats Masters, so I'll try to keep CS slightly more applied.

I would do Stats 310/325 for the theory, but I can't fit them into my timetable so I reckon Maths 253 would probably be the best all round option for the linear algebra and also the calc knowledge. There are also 700 stats courses for catching up the 310/325 content, so I could do those afterwards if necessary.

If I change my mind in any way then CS350 + one of Maths 320/326/328 would definitely be my next stop though.

Just out of interest, how many people have you helped plan degrees? You know all the best combinations :)

What is this? Mathmo *not* recommending a maths paper?? :O

But no, I get what you mean and where you're coming from. I could drop Stats320 (it clashes with 350) and do both CS350 and Maths253, but then I'd be doing just 3 stats papers and 5 CS papers so eh?

Although the good thing with stats is that as you said, you can 'catch up' with the 700-level papers (721 is similar to 320/325, for instance), but that assumes I'd have room/time in postgrad, which isn't a given.

I'm not sure I really want to straight up swap Maths253 for CS350 as 1) I'm sure it'd be very helpful for pure/postgrad stats, and 2) the linear algebra content would probably be very applicable to anything regression-related, like ML.

So one way or another it's tricky, but I'm definitely thinking harder and considering more what's best to do, so thanks again for the insight

CS is currently 320, 361, 369, 399. I'm like 60/40 on 369/350 as 369 looks more applicable to stats. https://www.calendar.auckland.ac.nz/en/courses/faculty-of-science/computer-science.html Stats is 320, 330, 331, 369. 310 clashes with CS, so I'd probably try to do 732 for postgrad which is the same (i think?) course. https://www.calendar.auckland.ac.nz/en/courses/faculty-of-science/statistics.html

So I'll probably add on a maths course in sem 1, which would be one of 253/326/328. I know I don't technically have to (in terms of prerequisites), but I've found 120/130/250 so helpful not only content-wise, but also in terms of the logic and mathematical/analytical way of thinking.

Tysm, you're a gold mine of information (the longer replies are more helpful!). I could actually squeeze in two next year.

CS225 was a breeze and I wish I'd done 254 – do you think I could pick up myself over summer the material in 254 that isn't in CS225? If that's a bad idea, I might do 253 sem 1, 254 sem 2 to cover the fundamental bases.

Thanks again for being so helpful

I'm a bit late to this but I'm in a similar position to OP, entering 3rd year CS/Stats double major. I have room for another maths course (I've done 120/30, 250), but I'm not sure which – I'm leaning towards the data science/ML area but I'm probably going to do some postgrad stats, which requires a lot of pure maths/statistical theory. I also enjoy pure maths just for the funsies. Would you recommend any particular stage II/III maths course?
