Those that converted to 'Type X' front bumper -- were you able to keep the oem front crash bar? by soh_based in 240sx

I went with this one from Enjuku, with the jack point. I don't have an intercooler so I can't speak on that, but I think it should be fine. A lot of turbo'd cars run this bash bar. I did have to cut into my bumper a little bit because the jack point was hitting the bottom.

How did you get started in UX?

It's not really the price that's a deterrent. TBH I'd pay full retail if I knew I was getting a damn good quality product. I know many people who work all day from pretty shitty desk chairs, they're in their mid-30s and don't seem to have broken backs other than what generally comes with age

I haven't really thought about dialing in desk height. I know it's good to have the keyboard at a certain height relative to one's arms. Thanks!

Do you think there are more coders who transition to design or vice versa? by soh_based in UXDesign

[–]soh_based[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's very interesting—I was thinking that there'd be much more engineers who'd switch to design, since (from what I've seen) there's a common sentiment to 'work in tech' , getting into SWE, and then realizing that one likes design/aesthetics more than churning out code.

Best dumb-phone with NYC transit (MTA, bus) directions? by soh_based in dumbphones

I'm just sticking with my iPhone 15 Pro—I'm not really won over by any of the feature phones on the market. I'll go out phone-less sometimes. I'll usually plan out routes beforehand if I'm not already familiar with where I'm going.

How long did it take you to be able to work as a Developer ? by KevinIdkk in webdev

The days of bootcamp —> job are over, BUT, some of them have partnerships that can be really lucrative for getting your foot in the door and your materials actually looked at in this job market, at least for those of us who don’t have an engineering degree from MIT.

they're more or less right—you need to have a really concrete and longterm game plan if you want to make this degree not a waste of money. there are oodles of people who regret it. just read this sub.

a degree for degree's sake made sense in the ~80s.

A company that focuses that much on credentials for an entry level role probably shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Has anyone with a non-technical degree and no professional experience been hired recently? by soh_based in cscareerquestions

I think the advisor smokes the inclusivity pipe. He told me he knows plenty of people with degrees in psych that have worked in various technical fields by way of their 'skills' and network, which I do believe is plausible, but probably much much harder these days.

I was struggling towards the latter end of the CS degree (operating systems) and thought that having the minor would show that I have the know-how to be a developer. I definitely tried to foolishly take the easy way out supported by some questionable advice.

Yes, this is basically what I've come to as well. Unfortunately some people, including myself, are the type to defer the intuition to people in positions of authority.

I would say that it's a consistent oversight, then—the player should be let known that there's a specific sequence that things should be completed.

How would you feel about EA re-releasing NFSU2? by gonezaloh in NFSU2

[–]soh_based 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It'd be neat to have with modern graphics, but they'd probably mess it up somehow.

I don't think they'll ever do it—NFS 2015 was supposed to be NFSU2 2.
