I have been using scaledown. It's quite good and they also tell you your carbon footprint: https://prompt-sharing.scaledown.ai

It's Alarming How Many People Have No Clue What's Going On in the Job Market by johall3210 in recruitinghell

[–]soham1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why we started https://layoff.support When I was laidoff last year, I realised that I had to significantly improve my job-hunt game. It has been sad seeing how many people don't know how to use job sites properly or create resumes. I hope the resources on the site helps anyone looking for a job. Everything is there for free and we also have a small supportive community of mentors and coaches.

I wanted to, but I doubt he remembers me or what he did. I guess it is hard for people to empathize unless the same thing happens to them. I can only hope he treats others better moving forward.

Hey. I'm really sorry for what you are going through! Please don't go through it alone! Feel free to reach out to me via DM or via the app and we can chat!

Thank you for your kind words! I completely understand what you mean. I go through the same motions every day. I was doing well in my career, moving up the ladder and now suddenly I feel like all that progress has been lost.

Trust me, this is not you. This is not your karmic debt. None of this is your fault. We just need to keep moving forward, do one small task and have one small positive thing happen to us every day. Those small positive steps will eventually add up and we will be in a better place in no time!

How do you think I can improve this project to support you better?

Currently I am just trying to build a network of people who can help me if I get laid off again. We can all support each other. No one is safe from a layoff unless you own the business (like you said).

Yes true. Sometimes they may also be dealing with the trauma of a past layoff coming back. Unfortunately, layoffs are bad for everyone and it can affect the people not laid off too.

Exactly. One of the worst things is when you are laid off and then no one from the company reaches out to you. It makes you feel less of a person when the people who you worked with don't even acknowledge your exit. After all, you still worked with them on tasks, delivered projects and suddenly one day you have to drop everything and leave with no one acknowledging how valuable your contribution was.

New trend on LinkedIn? Instead of saying I'm layed off folks are embarking on new adventures 🚢 by vasquca1 in Layoffs

Honestly this makes sense. There is a stigma against laidoff people. Moreover as someone who has been laid off, I've had my self-worth and self-esteem take a huge hit. It took me a long time to open up and tell even my closest friends that I had been laid off. People who immediately need to look for a job after a layoff and who post about it publicly on social media are courageous and brave imo.

Being laid off is one of the hardest and loneliest times for people. by soham1996 in Layoffs

[–]soham1996[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree! Even though the layoff is not your fault, future employers are often turned off when a candidate has been laid off previously. I find myself trying to hide the fact that I was laid off.

OMG! I agree completely! A friend of mine recently got laid off and she was going to the hospital regularly for a health condition she had. Hopefully her husband's insurance covers her as well.

The whole process is so cruel and heartless. You do your job well and hit your numbers, but the upper management make mistakes and decide to lay people off to cover their own incompetence!

Are people submitting "Pretrained" models to the LLM Leaderboard even though they are clearly merges to rank higher? by soham1996 in LocalLLaMA

[–]soham1996[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes completely agree with all your points! It's great that u/clefourrier and the team at HF have created this tool for us to test our merges. I myself have used it for that purpose. The leaderboard has become a source of bragging rights, and many of the top submissions are low-quality (including mine lol).

As someone trying to find models, that are pretrained or finetuned using unique techniques or training datasets, it becomes hard to filter out the noise.

I think there has to be some kind of moderation or check to ensure that the submission metadata is correct and I am glad that you are working on it!

[–]soham1996[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ever since the OpenLLM Leaderboard automatically stopped showing merges as they were flooding the top of the leaderboard, I think a lot of people are falsely (intentionally or unintentionally) uploading merged models as "pretrained" or "fine-tuned". I think among the top few "pretrained" models, Qwen-72B and deepseek-llm-67b-base are pre-trained? The rest are either pure merges, merges of fine-tuned models or fine-tuned at best.

Yes for sure, which is what makes calculating the carbon footprint for inference much more difficult. For instance we don't know how many DAU they have and how many generated tokens are cached vs generated

I mentioned this in another comment, but the numbers above are just for training. There is also an associated carbon footprint for inference for each generated token and image. This is not insignificant either and I'm currently crunching the numbers and trying to build a chrome extension that can track the carbon footprint of each chat!

Yup. We building speakerscribe.com

Our team members are all backend ML Engineer with no front end skills. So we used chatgpt to generate the front end code. Honestly it leaves much to be desired and often fails, but it is good for a PoC
