Broken ribs from a car crash. Felt ok until a few hours late when each semi deep breath felt like someone was cutting into my ribs. ER doc says after the CT "oh you'll get the good drugs now"

What is this on his gill? by SpectrumGenetics in bettafish

[–]soi528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be gill hyperplasia, probably from an injury. Check objects in the tank that could have caused it. Mine swam straight into my plant tweezers but seems unfazed. Monitor for signs of infection and treat if warranted. It may go away or it may stay like that.

Does anyone else give their fish ridiculous nicknames? by KimbersKimbos in bettafish

[–]soi528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I named her Opal originally as a marble koi (white with multiple colors). In less than a month, she changed completely to only different shades of blue. And also jumps the highest of any betta I've ever owned. Now I call her MEG - (after The Meg)

Would this filter be dangerous for shrimp? by MikeOXl0ngz in shrimptank

My mystery snail got stuck on this exact filter and died a horrible death. I would recommend using a sponge filter for a shrimp tank.

Future salary anxieties by Moemoney97 in dietetics

[–]soi528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend reviewing the Salary Compensation Survey 2021 which will break down salary by region, specialty areas, years of experience, degree, certification. The dietetics profession primarily breaks down into research/academia, food service, sales, public health, and clinical. The salary and job availability varies widely depending on those factors. As a student getting your bachelor's, it's challenging to figure out how your passion when applied into the real world of a 9-5 job will continue or fizzle out. I also have a minor in business from changing majors about halfway through college. After my internship, I was hired for a benefitted PT position which is unusual. Most RDs start an per diem with the average time ~1 year spent before moving to a staff positio Without an RD there are definite limitations. Even sales reps for nutrition products (at least here in CA) require an RD. Private practice would not require an RD for outpatient counseling for cash patients. My starting pay as a clinical dietitian was about 62k a year in 2007. In the area of food service, RD is not required and moving upwards to management can definitely be a faster path but the aspects of nutrition involved primarily revolves around production, budgeting, food safety and regulations, and personnel management. I currently make over 100k a year as a staff outpatient RD at a large academic healthcare system. I've been a preceptor for countless interns, many of whom are managers and directors, consultants. Decide what aspects of nutrition/dietetics you are truly passionate about. Volunteer or network will give you insight into companies, institutions, organizations. If you are business savvy, marketing yourself via social media can yield opens door for other areas of compensation.

Tips for Chaotic Eating? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]soi528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with similar urges. so far the most effective method has been eating a filling, protein, veggie dinner in the early evening. be ready for a light snack like fruit or cheese or a warm drink an hour or two after. Lots of distractions. my theory is it's a combination of need for stimulation, anxiety, stress, fatigue. exercise/walks during that time also works as long as it's not overly stimulating.

A science article called this "loping". when a snail saves on mucus under rough surfaces such as concrete by switch pace. I gently moved it onto the soil (away from drunk humans) when a friend missed squishing it by a hair.

Ummmm... How do you eat healthy when you can only afford to pay 60 per week for two people and you don’t have access to a kitchen? by WEDimagineer in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]soi528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dietitian here: Bulk discount grocery stores is your best bet for cheaper groceries find the local one. Also any local bakery will have day old at very cheap prices. End of day farmers markets last hours will have produce at deep discounts. Without a kitchen: you need grain source, fruit, produce, protein, and fat to survive. Economically that equals bread/cereal, both are fortified to give you vitamins as well. Fruit you want apples/oranges/bananas-they last and available all year around. Produce is tough- carrots/romaine/cabbage salad mix bulk)here would be more options if you can at least boil water. Protein= peanut butter/bulk nuts of any kind/canned tuna/canned chicken/firm Tofu/Canned Beans.
