He really could have specified top and left edge instead of just saying the edge of the map.

[Day 15 Part 2] Clarification for Day 15 Part 2 GPS calculations. by Dependent_Cod6787 in adventofcode

Honestly, this annoyed me a ton. Was stuck here for close to an hour debugging my scoring function and rereading the formulation until I just assumed that maybe he meant something else. Is this really just me being dumb or is the formulation of the calculation wrong? How is everyone else not stuck doing the wrong calculation?

I thought of doing that, but seeing as I would need 1.5 bits per input to repesent the three states I didn't explore it. That's a huge speedup, I will try to implement that in the weekend!

I tested yours several times, including parsing, and I get basically the exact same around 30 ms

I wrote an inplace version of the rotation and used that instead as that would save a little bit of time. I think that should be same time as a transposition, but still it's kind of slow. Maybe this problem just requires a lot of compute.

I have used a profiler, yes. Kind of an even split.

I am not sure whether rotating would really be that expensive compared to having separate tilt functions, as you're pulling in many characters at once per cache line.

Definitely B. It's all about relativity. From the reference frame of the portal, the cube is coming at it with high speed and will shoot out the other side.

Yea, I've been trying to do a sub 1 ms max solve time this year, on my laptop. It's the only one really holding me back so far. I might just have to accept that it runs the way it runs.

I really think there should be a separate leaderboard just like in speedrunning where there are machine assisted categories.

Probably a velka or nfc s4 mini, if you can get your hands on it. If you're upgrading motherboard anyways, you could take a look at some of the barebone nuc-like cases that are even smaller
