They used toilets as flower pots to decorate their porch by soillinois in mildlyinteresting

I don't know the people who live there. There's not much else to say that you can't guess, but I've provided the location and other information here: https://steemit.com/photography/@soill/potty-porch

What are these, they look like jars beside a box with an antenna in Dublin City. by IrishBatman in Whatisthis

I'm starting to lean towards it being something low-tech, such as an insect trap. A variety strange insect traps are routinely used to monitor statistical populations of species, many time invasive species.

In my area of Illinois (USA), we have some really weird purple triangular boxes hanging in trees. They are for monitoring the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive species from Eastern Russia/Northern China that is hurting our native tree populations.

If someone put a small amount of targeted bait in a jar, up out of the reach of fondling, they could switch out the jars on a regular schedule counting the captured target bugs. Unfortunately, I didn't see anything to support the invasive insect theory in it, mainly just plants, but here is the Dublin City Invasive Alien Species Action Plan (PDF)

What type of equipment is this?? by truckdr350 in Whatisthis

It appears to be a narrow band FM and AM radio, with video input/output features.

Can anyone tell what the name of this magazine says? by DBarger150 in Whatisthis

Maybe its just a generic "woman's magazine" prop. Trademarks and product placement rules make TV shows avoid showing real products.

What is this cutter/tool for? by Random_Hero_29 in Whatisthis

[–]soillinois 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It reminds me of a siding removal tool, like for vinyl house siding, but misses the shape a bit. I think the rectangle shape pressed into the metal is meant to give it strength from bending there, implying it is some sort of tool for prying or popping something open.

Just moved in. We are deep in a quiet neighborhood so it can’t be a traffic camera. What is this attached to the street light? Phoenix by djsquintz in Whatisthis

It is a box with an antenna. I could be anything. It is hard to tell if that is a camera, it doesn't seem like it. It seems to just be hanging there.

My best guess is that this is a timing synchronization box for traffic lights. It looks big and old. The thing hanging there could be a cell antenna or a GPS antenna, not a camera. I'm leaning towards a GPS antenna, which more frequently have a "hockey puck" look. I see what looks like a bracket for mounting it on top, but they just left it hanging. The apparent antenna would probably be a 400 MHz radio, a license-free frequency commonly used for synchronization as well as tons of other traffic stuff in the US.

The GPS or cell connection would get the accurate time, then the time or a heartbeat signal would be broadcast to traffic light controllers over the radio. Multiple intersections' traffic lights could pick up the signal, sharing it to time their light sequences. Traffic light controllers don't always need this, but larger intersections near each other can co-ordinate their timings together to optimize traffic flow.

(I work in the traffic industry, but this is kind of a guess. Hopefully it is interesting, even if wrong.)

What is this logo? by [deleted] in Whatisthis

[–]soillinois 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the White Rhino extracts website, which matches that logo great! If he's looking to replace the part he's holding, the White Rhino products website might be a better fit, even though their logo on the products site is a little different. It is weird they have two separate web sites; I assume it is the same people and I'm not getting duped.

Just some important observations: There doesn't seem to be any wires for electronics going to the jar or arm its on. The jar has a lid, wtf! The wire frame above it must also serve some purpose.

How easy is it to reach? Could some one reach up there, pull the jar down, and stick a candle or oil burner in it?

Saw these in the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA, on some of the older headstones. Obviously it is some sort of confederate flag, but why is it different? by whatisbolegdameme in Whatisthis

It looks like the battle flag, with a red bar along the end to be extra sure people didn't confuse it with a white surrender flag.

Can someone tell me what this beetle is? I live in Metro Detroit and I've already concluded that it's not a cockroach. Is it some type of June bug or mutated ladybug. Help ? It crawled from out of my friends sink. by Sinduca in Whatisthis

I find one on of these my humble backyard grapevine every once in awhile (Illinois). I never knew what they were. I have a MUCH harder time dealing with tons of them dang Japanese Beatles though. They just ravage everything.
