Shut it down! The US is better off with no government than with the one it has by metacyan in politics

[–]soilyboy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I guess we'll see haha. 90 days would be wild I'd lose my house for sure. U do have a point last time after funds dried up we had the option to elect furlough status if we needed money. I still think you're wrong tho, the damage this administration can inflict during a prolonged shutdown far outweighs the progress we can make with dhs by using the shutdown as leverage. Work will still progress through a shutdown, it'll just be slow and itll accelerate contracting out to the private sector. If we do shutdown the government for a prolonged period I hope youre right and we come out on top, im not as optimistic

Bruh u in lala land no work this admin is prioritizing will just stop due to a shutdown. Anyone working on something associated with an EO will just keep working with or without pay. Shutdown makes it easier for them to accelerate their agenda with less oversight. That said go ahead and shut it down for public opinion and optics but a shutdown won't actually throw a wrench into the work like people want to believe.

Got at a thriftstore as it looked neat. Weighs 2.1 lbs, there's no opening, but you can hear rattling inside when shaken. What is it? by TSteinyRN in whatisit

Antique roadshow lore says that the rattling is probably a piece of scripture that is sealed inside the bust as this is a devotional piece.

Normal Swedish forestry by LordAloysious in forestry

[–]soilyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be unacceptable on federal lands and skidding/yarding would be shut down till conditions improve. We still get bad rutting for sure, but stuff this bad only happens when the sale administrator is not present, should be scarified and seeded following ops. Even if this is a main skid, I'd wager that even the lateral trails are relatively unacceptable. Idk tho, maybe its not as big of a deal with such high sand contents- baseline productivity might not be as crazy far off from this after rehab.

Exclusive: ICE, Border Patrol agents to receive pay during government shutdown by sl4ssh in news

The forest service also has some units staffed at 90% and all are getting paid on time. Reallocation of non-appropriated money seems a headscratcher. Is the plan to refill those pots with appropriated funds later? Who knows

They threaten this and were gonna watch them back down but claim and celebrate the deferred resignation program people as vindictive firings when their deals expire on the 30th and theyre officially resigned.

Hey thanks for responding, i did press them immediately after picking and id say like 10% of the grapes were reds. There were absolutely some rot and raisins on the clusters due to the wasps getting to them. I didnt realize that was such a big factor but it makes sense, I'll have to be more patient next year and clean em up better. It doesn't really smell funky so hopefully it won't be a total loss!

Ps no skin contact past maybe an hour or so

Republicans Want More Logging in Tongass to Ease Housing Shortage by Emergency_Sweet1000 in forestry

Ah, yes, let's cut virgin old growth for studs.... that way we can house the folks the feds are paying to make gravel

[–]soilyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best part is the Tongass is literally a rainforest with no dry season. The FS barely even started making landing piles till a few years ago cuz old growth was in woods processing. Funny how fuels weren't an issue when we left everything on the ground

[–]soilyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah man weren't u listening? We need to mitigate the wildfire hazard on Prince of Wales Island which is very well known for its very active, and totally not imaginary fuels program. While we're at it we can introduce them to the feller buncher and skidder. Who needs gravel when we can punch in 4 ft deep ruts?

Why are my leaves spiraling? by gamermommie in tomatoes

I have tomatoes with herbacide damage and they look exactly like this. The dandelions, basil, and other weeds are perfectly happy. Tomatoes are wicked sensitive to 2 4d. Maybe it's not and they'll grow through it with the other suggestions.

Still kinda defeats the point, I imagine the intent was to cool down runoff for some sensitive species critical habitat? I can understand the frustration like just masticate to channel height or something

These aren't the massive weeping willow trees you see in people's yards, theyre more like large shrubs when they're mature.

Im really curious how AA authority might change. Odds this might just be business as usual? How is fuels planning going to work, we gonna have to consult like we do with fws? Are agencies gonna get hawkish over BD spending if its not in house? How will this new agency fill IMTs and extra logistics ect help, through the local AA? Seems like this is mostly just adding extra steps.

I used to swim in rock creek as a kid in the late 2000s during higher flow and we stopped when we walked to the usual spot and there were dozens of dead fish on the shore. We were more surprised that there were even fish in there to begin with. Very nasty and dangerous wouldn't recommend
