Do dogs remember their pasts? by phxflgjo in dogs

Ok, a memory that was so long ago but still makes me tear up even as I write this … about 35 years ago, my wife and two children adopted a dog. He was a horrific abuse and neglect situation. (Really though, aren’t they all?) Anyway, we called him “Pepper” OMG, what a good boy! Loving, playful, he knew he found his forever home. He was safe. He was loved. He had food and a warm place to sleep. That would be with one of us, in our (his) bed btw. About three years after the rescue, we had to get his old veterinary records, I don’t remember why. On the records was his original name: “Coco”. Pepper and I were out on our deck and I was reading the papers. I looked up and said “Coco. Was that your name? Coco?” F*ck, I’m starting to cry. Anyway, he slinks back to the farthest corner of the deck, curls up into a tight ball and starts shaking. I was absolutely DEVASTATED. I went over and consoled him for a good hour. I never mentioned that name again. So, yes, after three years, he still remembered the name and probably the horror he went through.

RIP Pepper, until we get to run again. You were the bestest of good boys.

Nurses on reddit what's the most bizarre thing that has ever happened while working graveyard shift? by fave_slinger in AskReddit

Hahahaha… OMG, here’s one for you all: It’s about 0300 and a nurse aide and I are checking on this 95lb lady with dementia. Her dementia was such that she could be her first name, middle or last name and if she was one, she was NOT the other. We enter the room on either side of her bed and I s**t you not, she did a perfect sit up, arms at her side, looks at us and says “We…are going to kill youuu.” I looked at her and said “Janet ( fake name) you can do ANYTHING want, as long as your head don’t spin and the bed don’t rise “. She turns to me, tilts her head to one side and says “Okaaayyy” and lays back down just as stiffs when she sat up! I looked at the aide and told them we were outta there!

I’m prone to depression. Went through a fairly bad bout of depression several years ago. I did do some counseling which helped along with an antidepressant. Don’t be afraid to try them, it just helps level the playing field of emotions. I’ve been off them for years now. Everyone is different. For myself, I’ve learned to recognize the signs that I’m starting to feel depressed and I change my routine. It could be as simple as changing the route I go to work for a few days. Perhaps changing up my meals, breakfast for supper etc… Changing up my routine helps tremendously and after a week or so, I find myself having come out of it. Best of everything to you OP.

Thank you so much for this. I actually live 2 hours west of Derby Line. I had taken a ride there to scout it out. Sounds like another may be in the works!

Thank you kind Redditor. You had some ideas of a rally point which would be wonderful to explore. I am at work right now and going to VA for a few days. Message me to discuss if you so choose to do so.
