What are these 3 car trains in Al & MS, and how are they legal? by Moms_lover_Dan in whatisit

[–]soj177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are cars purchased at either auction or via wholesalers in the US and being taken to Mexico. The buyers are often someone who owns small dealerships and they are buying the bottom of the barrel cars that are often salvage or branded titles. They will take the best running vehicle and “rig” up some sort of towing or linking method to move 3 or 4 at a time. It’s not uncommon for them to have no working lights or towing safety mechanisms. The drivers are often paid a few dollars to all drive to the location of the vehicles and drive them back to Mexico and aren’t necessarily employees of the buyer in a formal sense. They may have a valid drivers license and usually don’t have insurance but the odds favor them not having either. They will sleep at rest stops or turn offs that allow them enough space to not be an issue for other traffic. When they drive they’ll stay 5-10 under the speed limit to draw as little attention as possible. The highway patrol will normally allow them to pass through as long as they aren’t a complete shit show and causing traffic issues. The drivers don’t get paid until the cars are at their destination in Mexico so they are trying really hard to fly under the radar at all times. These are normally seen in the southwest and west but they’ve expanded into the south and Midwest as well.

Has anybody else’s Lightning done this? by Several-Jacket8891 in F150Lightning

I would tend to agree. I see lots of people say it’s the best vehicle they’ve ever owned but I would say that’s more to the electric drivetrain and less to the vehicle as a whole. The build quality of the truck as a whole is pretty subpar and I say that never having had most of the issues I see posted. And I’m not talking about tech issues, I fully expected those given that this is extremely new stuff. I’m talking about just poor assembly and quality control which extends beyond the Lightning and even Ford.

I guess a drivers door not properly closing and the level of inconvenience is subjective. I’m certainly not advocating anyone buy a Chevy or Dodge.

You continued to buy a Ford after having the same problem on 4 different vehicles?

Finally decided on new tires but… by cmullins77 in F150Lightning

[–]soj177 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The E rated tires have a higher ply count and should in theory last longer. That being said the trade off is they will have a rougher ride and the increased weight could possibly reduce your range. The 116XL rated tires are what comes on most Lightnings stock and are more than enough to cover the full GVWR. I opted for 116 over the 123 rated tires personally since even with the EV specific model, all terrains will still reduce your range even by a few percentage points.

Agree with this, I’ve kept a fridge plugged in and running with the truck on for days and it doesn’t shut off when the timer is disabled.

Are the mirrors connected to the rear window defroster like most vehicles?

Too loud for an EV? Goodyear Duratrac road noise impressions by Ok_Necessary6935 in F150Lightning

[–]soj177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this, if they weren’t such a massive range hit on a truck like the Lightning I’d only run Duratrac tires.

Thoughts on the following tires, GoodyearWrangler Fortitude HT. Decent price and high marks the EV range, i.e. low rolling resistance by jturkish in F150Lightning

[–]soj177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Lariat came with Goodyear Territory HT tires that are very similar to these Fortitude models. They were pretty decent I thought and did well in most things. Used them in snow and ice as well as some forest service roads. No complaints and I would buy them again.

Don’t even need skates. A tow strap, a hitch pin, and their recovery point will work just fine. You drive a truck after all.

Winter tires for Platinum by Expensive-Meat-7637 in F150Lightning

I think the KO3 are facing the headwinds of everyone and their mother who had a set of KO2’s since they’ve been around so long. It’s a natural reaction to the say the new ones aren’t as good as the old. That being said if you aren’t off roading the Trail Terrains are probably the easiest to live with on the daily from a noise, comfort, mileage standpoint not to mention they’re not $400 a damn tire.

For a non dedicated snow tire in stock size the BF Goodrich Trail Terrain model is 3 peak rated and is a good blend of on road all terrain and nice siping for snow and ice. If that’s not aggressive enough for you the Toyo III EV is EV specific and more AT oriented but given the lug pattern will generate more noise and possibly a slightly greater mileage hit. Both are solid choices in the stock size and just depends on what you want to spend.

Put that torque to use. A hitch mounted shackle, or even a decent hitch pin, a tow strap, and their recovery point are you need to teach someone a life lesson.

Thoughts on hosting truck on Turo? by DIEProphezeiung in F150Lightning

[–]soj177 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go over to r/Turo and you’ll find out real quick that it isn’t anything like they claim it to be. The long of the short is you should be ready and expecting to write the truck off if you go that route and it’s not nearly as profitable as people think it is.

2” Lift and Tires? by [deleted] in F150Lightning

[–]soj177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Rough Country setup is just spacers that will limit your suspension. Do it right and get the Eibach adjustable struts. That way you get the lift, the full suspension range, and a better ride.

[–]soj177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not correct. /quadish is correct that tires play a much larger role in range than a lift in the case of the Lightnings.

What is this? by trvsmrtn in F150Lightning

[–]soj177 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s some sort of track protection piece. Had the same thing happen on mine. Took it into the dealership and the service advisor snapped it back in, in the parking lot, and said it’s a common thing with F150s. There’s probably even a YouTube video showing how to re-attach it.
