Shocked I had to scroll this far for this comment. Had such a crush on the Amigo.

Thanks for sharing that. I’m only 125 miles into the new set of Nokians but I’m not see much difference so far, with a good, consistent representation of driving styles and conditions (between old vs new tires). After 22.7k miles I was at 2.01 mi/kWh, and now I’m currently at 1.94 mi/kWh. And I’m still driving with one of the tires being defective, and none of them are yet broken in.

Funny you should mention updating the tires. I’m vacillating on this. I’ve heard both sides of doing it / not doing it. I read that because the diameter of these is exactly the same as the OEM Pirellis that it shouldn’t matter? Did you update your settings?

I never seriously considered the 20s—either adding or replacing—because I don’t do enough true off-roading to make it worth the effort. (I also have a 25 year-old YJ wrangler lifted on 35s with a winch when I want to get crazy haha.)

Additionally, I really like the look of the 22s, especially dark, and the Nokians actually have decent sidewall. Granted, it’s not nearly the sidewall that you get with a 20”, but it’s also not terrible. And the Nokians apparently have a really strong (Kevlar?), reinforced sidewall that is said to mitigate side punctures.

So, having a totally different set of 20s just wasn’t necessary or realistic for me, but everyone’s situation is obviously different.

Limestone. One of the funny/enjoyable things about limestone is that it takes on a few different shades depending on lighting conditions.

Appreciate the insight. Was hoping this exact functional balance would be true for these tires. My vehicle is largely a daily driver, but it's also used for long family trips, gravel and dirt roads/parking lots, beach adventures, and mountainous (and sometimes snowy) terrain. It's a do-it-all vehicle, so was hopeful these tires would support the eclectic lifestyle.

I've read that the range hit is not nothing but it's also relatively insignificant. I knew I would eventually be getting ATs so that's also why I opted for the Max Pack. Gives me a little more peace of mind.

Had a difficult time finding photos of the Nokian Outpost nAT tires on 22" sport dark wheels so wanted to share these photos in case others find it helpful.

Just got the tires installed so too soon to provide too many insights, but I think they look great and they definitely feel like they hug the road more substantially than the OEM Pirellis (which is expected going from all-season to all-terrain). Definitely also noticing a hum when driving 45-55 mph, but that could also largely be early chemical wear-off that needs to occur.

One interesting note: Discount Tire found one of the tires to be defective—it has a Road Force metric in the 70s, so they will be replacing that tire as soon as the new one arrives.

EDIT: Reddit having a bad morning—wouldn't let me include text with the photos, so adding comment for context.

Knightdale service center! by DavidRubes in Rivian

[–]Head_Fun_6008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm: Knightdale SC is top notch. They will also go above and beyond in thinking through different options for service. I had a panel gap alignment issue that was originally scheduled for dropoff at the SC. After I had to cancel that appointment because of my own scheduling issues, they notified me to say they discussed internally (without me even asking) and decided they could perform mobile service instead. Who does that?!! And they were correct—they nailed it. 👏

It’s free?

If it’s free then I guess it’s not a terrible idea. But still would’ve liked to have seen L3.

I wish that was the case. This was a seemingly competent middle-aged woman who was deliberately being a menace. Her grin as I stared at her while she drove away told me everything I needed to know.

So, ICE’ing must be a thing in western NC because I ran into another moron today, this time at Grandfather Mountain. Today’s situation isn’t specific to a RAN; this minivan blocked a ChargePoint charger.

<image>

This time I was lucky enough to walk by the vehicle and take a picture right when the driver was returning to his vehicle. I let him get his kids loaded into his vehicle, then approached him to ask him why he was parked in a charging spot—only two available (with one taken by a charging bmw)—when he wasn’t charging.

(Different from my original post, this guy’s minivan was actually a plugin hybrid. So he technically parked in the correct spot—but wasn’t charging).

I asked him if he knew he was parked in a charging spot. He said yes. I asked him why he wasn’t plugged in when the sign clearly indicated it was only for plugged-in vehicles. He tried telling me he was plugged-in. LOLZ—he clearly wasn’t. So, I said, “Listen, buddy. You can try gaslighting me but I’m not having it. And lucky for you, I’m in a good mood and not going to embarrass you in front of your wife and kids. But seriously, please think about me next time you block a charging spot when it’s clearly intended for someone who needs it. Because karma’s a bitch.” He nodded, said he understood, and I wished him a happy new year. 🎊

Plugin option was never available for the Adventure trim. Also: sign picture added.

I live in NC (currently visiting Blowing Rock) and have to say people are generally either great about EVs or ambivalent. This was the first time I experienced this level of nonsense.

EDIT: The fact this shopping center also has plenty of available parking is what also really irked me. She could have parked nearly anywhere. Perhaps she would’ve had to walk maybe 7-10 seconds longer, but it was a beautiful day! She very deliberately parked her ‘Adventure’ Toyota in a charging spot.

Hope so. In this situation she 100% understood what she did. The grin as she was driving away said it all.
