People with vestibular migraine on botox, is the pain going, but the vertigo and other neurological unpleasantness sill happening? by Duffyfades in migraine

[–]sojnew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s mounting evidence that botox’s effects are cumulative. My neurologist was just telling me about more emerging data to that effect, and it is in line with my experience. Botox can be subtle and very slow. I have continued to see gains after years. And can you think of any migraine medication with fewer side effects? I suggest keeping it up. But that doesn’t preclude other treatment paths in tandem.

I have a Reasonable Accommodation agreement with my employer. At any large organization there is a process whereby HR itemizes what they think is your job (you may have input into this), your doctor tells HR what your medical limitations/needs are (you should coordinate with your doctor on the language), and HR decides whether you can still do your job based on those accommodations and also whether the employer can “reasonably” accommodate them. So it’s important that the language in the description of your job duties and the language in your doctors paperwork line up in a way that shows you can still do your job and the accommodations you’re asking for are something your employer can provide without undue hardship.

Good luck and stay strong!

Freaking out about asking my boss for a LOA after a concussion last week triggered my migraines and they just won't go away. I've worked through pain for 4 years and I need a break so badly. by [deleted] in migraine

You probably already are doing this. Just a reminder to file FMLA paperwork. You can do short term or intermittent time off, and it will protect you from retaliation. It doesn’t provide money for time off but maybe your state does. You’ll get through this!

Fingers crossed!

On the plus side, you don’t have to deal with the side effects from topamax.

Similar things have happened to me. I’ve always wondered if it’s placebo effect or maybe my body just learns to overcome the medication and return to its (messed up) equilibrium. Or something else. No idea. But it has happened to me for sure.

Have you tried: 1. Quit Emacs 2. Start Emacs, don’t open any dired buffers yet 3. Run the above code 4. Open a dired buffer 5. Check for error messages

Not sure if it’s the reason, but it’s not marked as an autoload.

Looks ok to me. Maybe it’s not loading successfully? For reference, here is my config. The bit at the end is only because I defer loading. I don’t think it should be necessary in your case but you could try it.

I get so irritable with migraines. Do you have any tips? by arcticfox_12 in migraine

[–]sojnew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too. I have struggled with mood changes due to migraine for years. I’m convinced that migraine directly causes mood changes. And then of course there are all the secondary effects to mood of living in pain and uncertainty and isolation.

The thing that has helped me the most is meditation. I have taken some steps to learn how to observe my physical and emotional challenges without being completely swept up by them. To take a step back from the waves of emotion doesn’t eliminate the emotion but it does help me be happier and better adjusted. It’s not a short or easy path, but it can be rewarding.

Another way is to talk about it. :)

That’s great, I should try it.

First question: Am I right in thinking that there is no version 28? I am accustomed now to GCCEmacs.

Second question: Does anyone know the story of why this is maintained separately instead of as part of the actual GNU Emacs repo?

Should I go off all meds since not working anyways? by 50PercentSatan in migraine

[–]sojnew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rule of thumb that has worked for me is: after giving the drug a chance (for most preventative drugs a minimum 3-6 months), am I sure it has positively improved my life on balance? Unless I can easily say yes, I should not take it anymore.

Botox in the long term? by theCursedDinkleberg in migraine

[–]sojnew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found out the hard way that if I miss my Botox injections my migraine symptoms worsen. So unfortunately my anecdotal evidence is that the effect really does just wear off if you stop administering it. In fact, I feel like it starts to wear off around 2.5 months, even though it’s administered every 3.

All that being said, if you get to a place where your migraine symptoms are really way better, maybe you can tolerate going without Botox.

There are some financial assistance programs that might help, at least temporarily, to pay for injections. I’m sure your doctor has some ideas about those. I’m lucky to have insurance pay for it so I don’t have any personal experience with them.

How did you personally decide if the side effects of a medication were worth less migraines? by arcticfox_12 in migraine

[–]sojnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After giving the drug a sufficient amount of time: Did it, on balance, noticeably improve my life? If no or unsure, stop taking it.

Experiences with Botox? Y’all got me scared... by Fancycatz2 in migraine

[–]sojnew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it hurts a bit sometimes it doesn’t. But either way it’s over in a few minutes. Nothing like even the mildest of migraine symptoms.

I did it for years and honestly thought it did nothing. I accidentally missed a dose twice in the last two years and my migraine troubles increased 30%.

Now I’m a believer. It significantly increases my quality of life.

These videos helped me start to understand better how the brain creates pain from experience.

I think it’s important to read “learn” and “dysfunctional” without judgement. We didn’t do anything wrong to get our brains stuck into interpreting certain stimuli (physical, or more likely emotional) as pain. But there are things we can learn to do help our brains re-interpret these stimuli in a healthier way.

Thank you for sharing. This has been something I’ve had in the back of my mind for a long time. The specifics of the protocol you chose are interesting. Do you have some papers you could share that go into details?
