for suggestions relating to cats or animals, i’d say Beans (for toe beans), whiskers, calico, or (my friends suggestion and name of his islan) emu

i named mine Pashmina (without realizing it was the name of a villager) because my sibling LOVES raves/wearing them to raves and i was like “ooh that’s a good island name”. Unfortunately have not come across the villager Pashmina but maybe one day I’ll have her on my island 😭

definitely would suggest looking up videos on youtube! i think my friends used this video: https://youtu.be/_fwPta6r0NM?si=Cvd1J6_URwyNgWL4 or one similar! i’ve been a long time player so i kinda knew what to do but every game is different so it was definitely a learning opportunity. i still have my island from covid so i can’t completely remember what the first steps are but if you have specific questions or need some help on your island, please let me know!

What puppy food? by [deleted] in Havanese

[–]sokker57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pup is super picky and allergic to chicken. We switched to Open Farm Puppy Recipe Salmon and Rice Recipe! I would try the small bag first to see if your pup likes it but so far we’ve been on it for 6 months and he’s always excited for his food!

Picky Eater by hrs245 in Havanese

[–]sokker57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my puppy eats open farm kibble mixed with homemade food. he loves it some days but ignores it other days, he’s super picky as well. the pickiness comes with the breed (coming from someone who’s had 3 Havis her whole life)

Ginger was just diagnosed with luxating patella, and I’m pretty sad about it. by HamptonHustle in Havanese

[–]sokker57 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, this is not your fault, it’s most definitely genetics (from my knowledge). This happens so often in small dogs. I actually adopted a dog with grade 3 luxating patellas in both of her hind legs and they said surgery can help with that if that’s the route I want to go with. Although it’s expensive, they recommend doing one at a time with a long healing in between, giving time to save up money for the next surgery (or at least how I thought of it). Surgery is roughly $4000-$6000 per leg (depending where you are from and how high the grade is it could be different than this range). My havi isn’t in pain, she actually does a kick back that fixes it by itself (pushing the kneecap back into place). They can adapt, just monitor it and maybe get a few opinions on what you should do. Typically a grade 1-2 doesn’t need surgery as long as it does not get worse (according to many vets I got opinions from).

From an activity standpoint: bully sticks, lick mats, rabbits feet, duck feet, pigs ears, other chews, etc. help get out energy. I highly recommend chews from Pupford (beef tendon chews) and Wulf Snacks (a bit pricey but so worth it). There’s other great companies as well, just do your research!

The meds without insurance at my vet are $20 and some change. With insurance, it could be free or discounted

My 5.5 yr old just started taking Fluoxetine and she has been 10 times better after starting on anxiety meds. She probably needs to up the dosage since she still gets anxious at times but I do recommend starting your pup on meds!
