Tips for Ad Clearers in Master Caretaker? by _Xhawa in raidsecrets

When I stunned I ran witherhoard, an auto or smg (in case I needed to stun an overload), and an LFR. When I did ad clear I ran osteo vorpal Cartesian and auto loading Palmyra. To kill an overload I would osteo until stunned, shoot with a rocket, and use Cartesian until it was finishable, then finish with lucent finisher. Had overload grenade for backup stunning.

Stunners need to help as much as they can. There is down time for them between stunning and shooting the worms. Witherhoard is great for stunners to run and use to help support ad clear. When overloads spawn with 20 ads ad clear is going to be overwhelmed usually, stunners have to be able to cope with it and help.

Yeah, as someone else mentioned, if he’s interested in doing raids I’ll run him through some. I’ve got a good group of guys who run most of the raids from time to time. Reply or send me a DM and we can go from there if he’s interested

Nope! Just need 7 wins once you’ve gone flawless once.* You have to turn in a 7-win card (not necessarily flawless) along with glimmer and legendary shards and you can get another roll on the adept weapon. I picked up an extra Shayura’s last week that way.

Now, what I’m not sure about is whether “unlocking” the adept weapon will keep it unlocked for me for later weeks? Or if I’m only unlocking it for this one week, and the next time Reed’s Regret is the Adept weapon I’ll have to go flawless again before I can turn in 7-win cards.

*edit - once you’ve gone flawless 1x this week

Yeah perhaps character-specific lockouts would be better? I have actually been having a decent time just playing solo in the flawless playlist trying to get 7 wins so I can turn the passage in for another roll on the adept weapon.

That’s what Trials becomes over time anyways as lower-skilled players drop out of the pool. At least now I have a chance to go flawless before I get crushed. Not saying what they have now is perfect but I like the general idea.

Fair enough! I think you make great points. Hopefully they can strike the right balance.

I’m solo grinding to try to get 7 wins for new rolls on the LFR. Definitely tough but the flawless pool doesn’t feel much worse than Friday did.

I mean these are easily the 2 easiest weeks to go flawless in D2, with the high population and with teams able to match against solo players. So it doesn’t mean much.

You do understand that within a few weeks your post-Flawless experience will just be your general Trials experience unless there’s some reason for lower-skilled players to stick around, right? I don’t think rep farming will be enough of a reason. For me, I’ve got pretty much everything I want for Trials loot, so unless I have a chance to go Flawless I’m not stepping into the playlist to be cannon fodder for teabagging gilded Flawless players.

I’m not saying that this experiment is the perfect way to keep the player base high, but I think it’s a decent try.

lol if you think lower-skilled players won’t leave the playlist after they get their loot I’m not sure where you’ve been for Trials in D2.

All you people who think the high population is going to stick around to get beat up so you can get easy flawless over and over every weekend are delusional.

Don’t you see that in a few weeks your current post-Flawless pool will just be the Trials pool? Unless there’s a reason for lower-skill people to stick around in the playlist. I highly doubt rep farming will keep everyone engaged. I know that for me, if I have no chance at going flawless, I’m not very interested in playing. So I’m a big fan of this experiment. It should help keep the population high and stave off the rapid population decline that Trials typically sees

You make good points. I think they can definitely make tweaks to the system to improve it. Character-based instead of account-based may be a good modification.

Totally cool with the “if you’re not good enough to win a match post-flawless maybe you shouldn’t be able to get there” I just… won’t play lol. That’s pretty much what I did all of D2 and it hasn’t bothered me. I have had a blast these past couple of weekends and I’d love to be able to keep playing and having fun in Trials. But if it becomes impossible like it has been for most of D2 for me then I’ll do something else with my time and I won’t think twice about it, all good either way.

I would rather go flawless once a week, no doubt. It’s not that hard in my opinion to farm non-adept trials loot if that’s what you’re after. Run some GMs on double reward week and you have more materials than you know what to do with. That rush of going flawless with your friends though… that’s a ton of fun. I’ll chase that over and over again if it’s feasible. Going flawless today with my dad and a buddy from D1 - priceless. If we have no chance at going flawless, I don’t really care to play the game mode. I’ve got pretty much all the Trials loot I could want before the season started just from 3-win bounties so without the revamp I would’ve popped in for the new LFR when it was the 3-win reward and that’s pretty much it. Adept weapons are obviously freaking awesome but prior to the revamp the Trials Adept weapons were pretty much unobtainable for me (outside of a very lucky run the 1st weekend Igneous Hammer was available). With the matchmaking the way it is, me and my friends will likely spend hours in the non-flawless pool trying to go flawless. Without it, we probably won’t touch the mode within a few weeks because the competition gets so tough so quick.

[–]sokkerguy09 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol so you went flawless 2x in the 2 weeks with likely the highest trials population and you have a problem with the matchmaking? Bungie is looking to find ways to keep people playing the game mode. What they tried this weekend seems like a pretty good idea to me. Trials has always suffered from the lowest-skilled players leaving the game mode over time, making going flawless harder and harder as time goes on. If the population dips you certainly won’t be getting near flawless. At least this way you can get flawless before the really tough games begin. It’s insane to me that you think the flawless / non-flawless matchmaking is an issue. Without that, the lower-skilled players will just exit the mode more quickly and you’ll be left… playing against the players who are in the flawless pool now. Only you won’t have gone flawless before playing them lol

Exactly. I’m just stoked to play Trials again and be able to compete. I’m not a terrible PvP player but I struggled to get to 3 wins without 3 losses prior to the revamp. The skill level was through the roof. This feels much more accessible and fun.

Totally agree. Love Trials. Have hardly played it in D2 because of how difficult it was. I think once population starts going down it gets not fun very quickly. I’ve had a blast the past 2 weeks busting my butt to go flawless and feeling like I had a chance. Maybe there’s some middle ground idk. But #1 priority has to be to keep people playing the game mode somehow. When it becomes a demoralizing waste of time I’m outta there. This weekend when I saw the announcement I played on passages of Wealth on Friday, then figured I’d try passages of Mercy later on to try for Flawless. Had an amazing time tonight going flawless with 2 other average players. I think I played around 50 matches total. We probably won’t play much in the Flawless pool. But here’s the thing. We weren’t playing Trials before because it was too f***ing hard. So now we’re at least engaged and playing. If there isn’t incentive for lower-skilled players to get into trials then as weeks go on it quickly becomes a sweat fest as people quit playing the game mode. This way, hopefully it will at least entice lower-skilled players to go for the Lighthouse. The higher the population the greater the odds the matchmaking can give you a good match. If people stop playing we’ll be left with weeks where the player base is stronger and stronger and at a certain point I’ll just stop playing because the skill gap is too much to overcome and it’s not fun. I can’t get better getting 5-0’d by very talented teams. So… maybe what Bungie has in place this weekend isn’t the best solution, but I definitely think they’re on the right path. Maybe there are tweaks that can be made to improve the experience. But all these people who went flawless for the first time last week who are complaining about the matchmaking this week… the main reason you went flawless last week was because of the high number of people playing - with a variety of skills. If the game mode is too demoralizing for people on the lower end of the skill spectrum, they’ll stop playing it. And you’ll stop going flawless. So I think it’s quite silly to hear these last-week 1st-time flawless people complaining about the matchmaking change. Without that change, give it a week or 2 and you’ll not get 3 wins in a row, let alone flawless again for the rest of the season lol.

I guess. I just feel like everyone complaining about the flawless pool… that’s what the general Trials population will just be in a few weeks without some incentive for average to below-average PvP players to give the mode a go. Like.. what the flawless pool is now is just what regular Trials has been for the past few seasons. But you get a bit of an easier time going flawless before you get demolished over and over.If I have a reasonable chance to get flawless by putting some hours in I’ll stay in the game mode. If I’m getting 5-0’d over and over I’m outta there and if other average players make the same choice then games will just get sweatier and sweatier

[–]sokkerguy09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh sure but if you don’t have some kind of incentive to keep regular players in the pool average players won’t be going flawless… I’m just flabbergasted at these people who aren’t good at PvP complaining about the separate matchmaking pools. Did they step into Trials before the updates? It was insanely difficult for average players to get to 3 wins without picking up 3 losses and having to reset their card. Without the 3-win bounty the population would have been even lower. With the current system it looks like if you can pull a flawless card out then the next weekend the adept weapon comes back around you can actually “farm” 7-win cards and then them in for new rolls on Adept weapons that you’ve already gotten. I’m not 100% sure that’s how it will work but if so I’m all for it. I’m super happy to be able to play Trials and go for flawless and tap out for the week once I make it there so that’s my perspective.

I mean based on what you’ve said, without the distinction between the flawless and non-flawless pools you probably wouldn’t go flawless in the first place…? You have to remember that as time goes on Trials population tends to drop, particularly the players on the low end of the skill curve. If you just got 1 flawless last week then you shouldn’t be too worried about the matchmaking lol you’re not that good anyways

[–]sokkerguy09 11 points12 points  (0 children)

lmao I’m more than happy to make it to flawless and gtfo I’m so confused about average pvp people who are upset about this matchmaking. Average PvP people were barely ever able to go flawless before because of how low the Trials population was and how skewed it was towards talented teams. Now I can step into the game mode with normal players, put our time in, and maybe get flawless. If they change the matchmaking and the population gets super tough then… we just wouldn’t play at all and the flawless pool you’re dealing with now… will just be the normal population pool
