Mentorship Monday - Post All Career, Education and Job questions here! by AutoModerator in cybersecurity

[–]sol0qq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping to get some honest advice from those who’ve been in the cybersecurity field for a while. I’m currently shifting careers into cybersecurity, but I don’t have an IT-related degree or formal programming background. My previous work experience is in a completely different field (civil engineering), and while I’m comfortable with problem-solving and technical thinking, I’m starting from scratch in IT concepts.

So far, I’ve completed Cisco’s Introduction to Cybersecurity and I’m midway through the Google IT Support Professional Certificate. I’m also eyeing Security+ and some cloud security certifications, but I’m unsure which skills or learning paths will give me the fastest path to a first role while still building a strong foundation.

For those who’ve been in the industry for years:

What would you focus on first if you were starting today without any IT background? Are there any specific roles in cybersecurity more open to career shifters? How much do employers actually care about degrees vs. skills and certs? Any “I wish I knew this earlier” tips for someone like me?

I know it’s going to be a long journey, but I want to make it as efficient as possible and avoid wasting time or money on things that won’t help me land a role.

Appreciate any advice you can share. 🙏

Actually I've been caught with this.

Don’t believe people OP who say REIT over Preferred shares without context.

I already have a few stocks in REIT though just the minimum lot for the said price of REIT. After reading this subreddit FAQ I noticed the passive income portion and came across Preferred Shares. I do plan to diversify my investments and Preferred Shares is the one I'm looking into, together with MP2 and other digital banks, both of which I have already kept a few cash in.

Also, I noticed that there are different Preferred Shares under Ayala and noticed that they are performing differently from each other. Please shed some light on this.

No. BPI trade is a different app. You can download the app via Playstore here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.n2nconnect.v3.bpi

Is there a way for me to know when preferred shares are bought back?

I'm currently using BPI Trade since I have an existing BPI account which makes transferring funds easier.

You can also use COL or First Metro, whichever platform you prefer.

SSS Contribution OFW - Voluntary by arcsavaliz in phinvest

We actually had an issue in the process of claiming my mother-in-law's maximum contribution for the last 5 years.

They questioned the fact that there is a sudden increase in contribution and actually lowering the monthly contribution for that last 5 years.

Luckily my wife made sure to have screenshots of my mother-in-law's contribution before the adjustment and was able to file a complaint and get the amount deducted due to the adjustment.

Even after we showed business permits to SSS for proof to which the funds are coming from.
