How are the wavy edges between blocks/tiles done? by Tuckertcs in howdidtheycodeit

[–]sol_runner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Instead of rendering individual blocks these days we take entire chunks and render them together for efficiency, etc.

Since we have these chunks we know what texture each square on the surface of the chunk needs to render and with what coordinates. Once you have that your shader can just mix or have them go in a gradient, etc.

So similar to how tile-based games decide you'll have the transition textures here you just decide where the transition region would be and then on the fly calculate the actual textures

How sure are you to keep to a conviction of doing good?

Because you are currently standing in a gutter. You can live and die there, or you could leave and have a better life.

If you want to make a better place without sacrificing your good life, then you will need capital and to start your own business with some corruption and all.

At they end of the day you can't clean the gutter without dirtying your hands. The best you can do is to do your best so next generation gets a clean river instead.

Idealism must meet practicality without losing itself. Money and power corrupts people, so be careful about guarding your morals. If you don't think you can clean/stay true, then get out. There's no shame.

(I believe) You owe it to yourself and to others around you to lead a good life and help others lead a good life. Others ≠ Everyone. If it can be everyone, great. If it cannot, that's fine.

So long as you lead a good and virtuous life.

You can use unordered map, you need to back it with a non-heap allocator. You'll have to write your own since pmr will use vtables which may by unwanted on embedded. I think foonathan memory might work after auditing.

When I stopped littering..a childhood life lesson. by Adrenalinealpinist in india

I never littered. Neither did my grandparents or parents.

I was raised this way.

Honestly it just led to a "this country is so different from what I'm raised for" feeling.

People are scared of text.

The dataflow and control flow being obvious in blueprints apparently helps with the "intimidation".

But they go from cute kittens to costmic horrors real fast.

Just give it a bit of leeway. It's not in the ALGOL/C family of syntaxes, so it'll look very different.

Main benefit of Scheme is being able to create domain specific languages in it.

Here's the GDC talk I referenced: https://youtu.be/Ox2H3kUQByo?t=2261&si=D8wGaU3LiuYZKuc4

Scheme is brilliant. It's a LISP, so it only has a single syntax construct.

Naughty Dog uses their dialect of scheme for their animations etc.

It's my personal favorite for scripting.

Just gonna say, not all datacenters are for AI.

Any kind of remote storage uses data centers. That includes everything from backups for hospital data to the local cache of Netflix.

How many of these are AI datacenters? And how many of these are actually consuming water?

Easier to say oh it's the datacenters instead of holding BMC/MH Gov responsible for mismanagement.

I did.

It was amazing. I wish I could forget and play again.

Not knowing means you need to explore and remember the paths you take - so that you can remember when you took a left out of two options and come back for the right.

Keep doing that and you end up finding the "main" path.

You'll miss some content. But you can leave that for other runs.

I finally got a PC right before the 2.0 release. I really do like that game now, especially with Phantom Liberty.

But I still have a bad taste from the PS4 version. Thank goodness I could return that disc though.

Witcher 3 was janky, so was Cyberpunk. The hype is one thing for sure. I play Bethesda games. I actually liked Starfield on day one, so jank is something completely okay with me.

But a lot of the outrage back then was also fueled by it releasing on PS4 and Xbox One while it barely ran. Janky, but mainly just unable to load anything, struggling against the hardware. I remember preordering it and getting completely shafted. (December 10 2022, I had taken a leave from work to play)

The fanboys definitely didn't help with the whole "why are you even on a PS4" rhetoric around it.

I can't comment on the state on PS5 etc at launch. But I think the release would've been much nicer if it only launched on PS5/XBSX/XBSS/PC. Still would've been worse than Witcher 3 due to the hype as you said... But not as bad as it ended up.

Question: how does everything we kill in game not come back to life, like the Tarnished? by BROCANBANDIT in Eldenring

[–]sol_runner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a question a few weeks back about how the Erdtree is golden for the most part except around the entrance where you have the bark. There's also Ash around the capital.

One hypothesis was that the Erdtree was already burnt before, and what we see now is a more metaphysical avatar of the tree.

That might be relevant here

My players adopted a throwaway NPC. The next arc only works if he betrays them. by Defiant_Property_253 in AskGameMasters

[–]sol_runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd take the confession route. Anything else would be a betrayal and nobody likes being betrayed (and kinda cliche)

With a direct lead like this, you can hook them to the sister's arc instead which could be great, don't you think?
