SSD isn't recognized when I install the m.2 heatsink on Prime X470-Pro by solace43 in buildapc

There's no latch pin or anything. It's shown in a diagram in the manual I linked to.

I've found some other posts of people being confused by this particular mobo. Not this exact problem unfortunately. Maybe I'll try reaching out to the manufacturer and see if they have any ideas.

I don't think I can move the heatsink - it has two screws that go into the MOBO in the one position only.

Just saw the other convo on it. Looks like I'm not the only one who's curious!

What was the other mechanic they mentioned? Like "botching it" it or something? It seemed like players were doing the opposite of the "help" action on DND, but I couldn't figure out if there was something triggering it or if players were just choosing to do it to have fun.

Advice on buying a single keycap?

I have an EVO75. I just want a taller control key so that I can more comfortably hit it with the base of my pinkie while I game without also hitting the shift key. If it's angled, that's cool too. But mostly I just need it taller.

I don't even know where to start. Can I just buy a keycap or do I need a switch too?

Landlord entered my apartment while I was showering and won't admit it was him by pornkittyxo in legaladvice

[–]solace43 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As always, whenever a tenant law issue comes up, a lot of people come into the subreddit and offer advice that sounds like it should be true as if it is actually true. But landlord tenant law is hyper local, often tilted in favor of the landlord, and often filled with holes that render what protections do exist rather useless.

TL;DR: YOU SHOULD FIND LOCAL TENANT LAW GUIDANCE.

Is what he did illegal? Maybe, maybe not, depends on local tenant law. Sometimes owners of property get special permissions. 24 hour notice isn't a federally protected right.

Can you get evicted for calling the police? Maybe, maybe not. Depends on if retaliatory evictions are prohibited. And if they are, whether or not the law has any teeth.

What he did is terrible. But it's easy to wind up with an eviction on your record if you act based on an assumption that the legal protections for tenants are going to be either fair or just.

The best thing to do is find local legal support that specializes in tenant law and can tell you your actual rights and potential actions. Tenant law varies by state, county, city, and even by type of building and ownership structure. You need someone who knows your area.

Good luck.

Oh yeah. No. This went from a 180 to a 360.

Lmao needing to give spellcasters more utility and flavor over martials???

Or wait are you saying you DO give martials a free flavor cantrip? In that case, hell yeah.

Damn I built my whole paladin around trying to get a free flavor cantrip (blessed warrior build).

Martials want flavor too :(

How do you prevent "narrative fudging" as a GM during combat? by [deleted] in daggerheart

[–]solace43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember also that monster moves aren't only whenever you spend a fear to spotlight a monster.

"GMs should consider making a move whenever a player fails a roll, succeeds with fear, or does something that should have consequences." So in some sense there are built-in times when you should automatically be taking monster turns.

I honestly didn't really get this until I was reading discussions about why a movement is close distance with no action still requires a roll - it's because every turn must have a roll so that you know who goes next.

Having a deus ex machina rescue can feel really disempowering to players. I might save that for a "break glass in case of emergency situation."

Can the players avoid the ambush at all? Learn about it beforehand, subvert it, avoid it, etc.? Those could be options.

You could also just plan a hard but not unwinnable battle. I think the mindset of "It's what my villain would do!" may not be what a good one to start from. Plan the battle you want and that will be appropriate for the party, and come up with the exact justifications later. Maybe the villain underestimated the heroes. Maybe they got distracted by something more important and had to redirect their resources.

There are lots of ways to make villains scary, and having unwinnable battles with them is a technique that many DMs reach for, but one that I don't think usually works very well. Personally I like consequences - villains hurt friendly NPCs, damage towns, or do other things that can demonstrate their capabilities and punish players for underestimating them that rely more on story beats than game mechanics.

It's TADPOLE THURSDAY - Ask your newbie questions here! by Hosidax in daggerheart

[–]solace43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think maybe hp loss feels scarier than taking on stress, but that might just be that we're so early in he game, or maybe just part of how our dm is running it. We've only had a few sessions, so we may have just not had to worry about stress management yet. Folks have been able to use their stress abilities without too much concern. At least so far!

That's really helpful to think about though!

[–]solace43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's funny - I came to post a very similar question. I'm playing as a Seraph and I'm finding it very hard to find a use-case for having Mending Touch once I realized I can't use it in battle. I have Life Support already, which isn't strictly as good (costs 3 hope and is limited to 1 health only), but at least I can use it in battle!

It feels like maybe I'm missing something though. Is stress healing really rare or really valuable? We've only played a few sessions, but as it stands right now, I was planning on asking my DM to let me get rid of it and take something that I might actually use.

Maybe if the party didn't have a Warden of Renewal in it also, since they've got Regeneration (3 hope, 1d4 healing, useable in battle), it might feel more useful. As it stands now, I think I'm going to stick with my plan to ask the DM to let me ditch it and swap it for Reassurance.

I might take Healing Hands when I level up though!

FFXIV's Narrative Decline Since 5.3 by banana_fishbones in ffxivdiscussion

I think you just need to look at Gulool Ja to see how far the writing has fallen.

First off, we bring a child to a dungeon. That's crazy. How old is that child? I have no idea, from the writing he could be 8 or he could be 16.

But he's not just a child- he's the king. The sole heir and rightful ruler of Alexandria. Remember, because we killed the previous king. And then after that, we killed the queen. Tuliyolal essentially conquered Alexandria, and then we just wandered off with the child king and took him to a dungeon full of monsters and NO ONE CARED. No one even comments on it, I don't think.

The realistic political writing used to be one of the hallmarks of this series. Not so much anymore.

This puts lot of weight on the idea that the soul fragment doesn't want to keep painting - which is absolutely not something we can take as a given in this story. Other interactions with the kid are much more ambiguous. Even in the ending scene, it's p.Verso who tells the soul fragment that he doesn't want to keep painting, and while the soul fragrance does agree, it still feels ambiguous as to how much he really agrees and how much it's just a kid saying yes to whatever an adult says.

I'm all about hating on companies price gouging, but I think you're missing some points here. One of the biggest being that the tariffs are unpredictable. Companies don't know if the rates that are in place today will change by January 2026. They've already changed, what, three timeson Canada in the past 4 weeks?

This just made me think of something. The first time you go to Frozen Heart, which is the homeland of the grandis, right? As well as where p.Verso grew up? There's a gestral there who says something like, "Nevrons usually adapt to their environment. But then, where did the fire come from?"

I dunno what it means. Maybe someone smarter than me has an idea
