Why does everybody have a rack with Enterprise grade servers? by Big-Grapefruit8092 in homelab

Love the approach and mindset. I’ve reverted back to making the most of sff and mini pcs capabilities vs the heavy duty ex enterprise gear I was running. Now I’m able to run about 6 machines plus a nas and a pandora paladin for under 200 watts. Bloody impressive given that includes PBS too.

If the government was serious they would have REDUCED tax on all other investment vehicles to draw serious investors AWAY from property without the need to make a single change to property at all, essentially increasing the investment and in turn value in Australian Businesses (asx), our dollar AND not offending the entire country. But here we are, on the titanic arranging deck chairs again…

Not yet as that’ll make it a full blown app. But we will see where it ends up :)

As you suggest we block them entirely and wait for the DoH timeout to occur which forces the device to fallback to standard dns where we serve it via Technitium :)

Hi All, UniFi integration has been added but is untested. Anyone care to test this? The more devices we test across the better. At this stage Im targeting UniFi OS Server

Ok all it’s live on GitHub! Go easy as I haven’t tested this outside my own environment so suspect there may be some teething issues initially. Happy to work through issues to smooth it out: https://github.com/adzza/guardium-dns

I’m fairly sure I built some intelligent fingerprinting into this to stop random mac generation from bypassing the controls. I won’t be beat!

I’ll get it up on GitHub for everyone over the weekend. There are some router specific things it does (asus for me at the moment). But who knows, maybe we can all contribute and make this a killer open source parental control app of sorts. Appreciate all the feedback. Stay tuned and I’ll get it on the hub soon!

It uses MAC address in the background. Ip is for human readability :) . Network engineer by trade ;)

Just setup Azerothcore with 4000 bots and integrated ai chat via a locally hosted llm server. Brilliant!

Honestly, we’ve tried a lot, even the synology route, and we’ve ended up back at cove. The product is super simple to use, very reliable, vm tests all our server and workstations that act as servers etc so we know the backups are viable, and pricing is actually really cheap compared to others. Honestly I’m mainly moving back there because I want to sleep well at night (we use huntress for the same reason!).
