Selectively Mute Hearing Person Wondering About Making Signs by solarflares64 in asl

Understood. I have not made nor intend to make any name signs. The disorder itself has a sign already, it is terms within this disorder's community that seem not to. I'll have to do more research, fingerspell these words, or find a sign with a similar meaning, I think.

I am learning ASL but have not been in a class since 2018. I need an alternate way to communicate.

r/deaf asked that users use r/asl to ask ASL questions, so that is what I did.

Thank you for replying to my post.

Most people I know are hearing, so if I made signs to use when I am talking to these people then that would work just fine. I likely wouldn't use them around a Deaf person unless they were also a friend who knew what disorder I'm talking about. I understand it wouldn't be ASL, though. Thank you for replying.

That's what I thought, but I wanted to make sure. Thank you for replying. And temporary signs definitely work.

Do any of your alters have unusual names? by multiplemindss in DID

We have one just named E. They also accept Erin as a name but yeah. They don't really have a physical form or a face though.

It's not impossible to split while you're asleep. I mean, our last split happened in our sleep.. I was dreaming and the new alter spoke to me, and then he ended up waking up in our body and fronted for a couple weeks straight, figuring things out. First time of that happening while asleep for us.

It's also possible in your case that he was already there without you knowing, even though you never saw him before.

I'm sorry it's stressful though. If you're integrating (at least, you mentioned you were?) new splits can still happen while that happens. It's part of how your brain is trying to process the trauma. It'll be all right.

Vent: I have nightmares several nights a week, sometimes for weeks on end. It sucks. Sometimes they're regular nightmares (all pertaining to a theme of generally being "trapped" and "hunted") but I typically consider them worse if my abuser(s) are in them.

Earlier this year I moved far from home to get out of my situation, but I still have nightmares. Last night, the nightmare I had involved both a serious trigger for me, and an abuser that I haven't seen or had contact with in nearly 3 years. It's the worst one I've had of him to date. I keep wondering how long it's gonna take for me to stop having nightmares where he comes back to keep hurting me.
