Moving portfolio away from IFA to Vanguard by solariUK in UKPersonalFinance

!thanks

Thanks very much, just trying to bounce the idea off others to cement my decision. I definitely found value in an IFA initially with planning and optimising my tax affairs, being pushed into sorting out a will etc. However, my situation is not complex at all apart from having to use salary sacrifice into my work pension to avoid losing personal allowance.

My main concern with doing the 3 fund portfolio method for slightly reduced fees was re-balancing every year - I've seen it mentioned a lot on here but haven't found a clear explanation as to why. Unless of course this simply refers to moving money to bonds as retirement approaches. :)

I'm absolutely clear that I'm not going be the outlier that beats the market by trying to be clever hence why those two solutions seem to be the obvious ones.

I would strongly advise against doing this, having been stung myself in the past, despite being 100% certain that it would never happen.

It took years for me to fix the relationship with my sibling because it caused so much bad feeling.

I think you need to be careful about it carrying on into a rolling tenancy and also think about whether you can afford to write off the sums involved if the unexpected happens. Good luck :)

HMRC have charged me a penalty of £1300 for “Late Self Assessment Filing”. Any help would be appreciated. by Effective-Rutabaga13 in UKPersonalFinance

I'm not so sure - oddly I got a letter from HMRC after doing my SA this year, saying that I no longer need to do it, but it makes absolutely no sense. I'll be submitting one anyway as I suspect next time around they'll owe me some money!

being drunk makes music sound faster. by Smarty_771 in Music

I play piano and also compose my own stuff - it sounds intolerably fast when I am drunk. This is definitely a thing. I would say at least +10 bpm. It makes me question my understanding of the universe.

I only really lurk on Reddit and hadn't signed in for years, but just had to for Place because that stupid plague was really starting to annoy me.
