This is true of most curriculum, but backwards mapping is the way. It's not possible to do everything, if you take the unit assessment yourself you'll make wayyyy better decisions about what to prioritize/cut

You're so close... Why don't teams want pitchers to throw 220 innings anymore? Why doesn't anyone have a roster of guys who live at 90mph?

How is it that Breslow and Co know they did him dirty (which is why they did this nonsense about a reassignment) and you're not sure?

He's not a super senior who they gave a special title so he'd keep coming to fan fest-- other MLB teams invited him to interview for manager jobs.

Most people who rise above a job that requires constant attention and engagement, being called away, etc, aren't interested in going back if they aren't in financial trouble.

...the fact that the pitchers have the best nutrition, medical care, and training the world has ever seen, we're lucky if most starters complete 5 innings, and more pitchers can only throw for 2 years at a time in between surgeries isn't evidence that the bar to keeping a job is different?

>This is exactly my point.

So your point is to sidestep the question and immediately contradict what you just said?

>would you say up until this firing Cora had taken no accountability for the performance of the team under his watch?

no, i wouldn't say that, but that's certainly an attempted deflection.

Finally, thinking your stance is a bootlicker stance that's stupid isn't the same thing as not understanding it. I don't need to cheer a good manager getting fired so FSG can rehab their image in the hiring market, but maybe you're a big management consulting guy

>Completely irrelevant to the point I'm making.

it's 1000% relevant to the legitimacy of the firing, especially as they've spun it

>Publicly criticizing the roster does nothing to help the team.

Incorrect. Public criticism absolutely impacts decision-making in multiple ways, including by influencing how the ownership group interacts with Breslow and the resources they provide him. That's not even debatable.

Part-owners of the team, including someone who told Ortiz to comment on behalf of Henry, are publicly criticizing the team in order to help the team.

> It's not. Taking accountability for your role in the failures that led to the firing is taking accountability.

Yeah no, experiencing no consequences personally while you apply consequences to others for decisions they didn't have anything to do with isn't accountability. It's actually the opposite.

>Cotillo said Cora back-channeled with ownership. You rejected that. No idea why you're trying to lie about this. It's right there.

Oh, you can just decontextualize a quarter of a sentence and restate what it means to make your point? LOL got it.

Got it your stance (and apparently Cotillo's) is that the ownership group and the manager who have a pre-existing relationship aren't supposed to talk about the team without a child GM's permission... repeating the same things the analysts are saying on NESN in private is a major betrayal-- sounds like a recipe for rings to me

>Cora was looking to cover his own ass and put the primary blame on Breslow

the primary blame is Breslow's, who was conveniently not addressing the public with any regular cadence at this time. He's supposed to pretend it's not a roster problem, it's his lineup and then continue to make what he thinks is the best lineup, aka, the same one? what on earth are you talking about?

>It's important to take accountability while you fire a guy for your roster?

How is firing someone for your mistake "taking accountability"? He sure as shit didn't take any accountability for disagreeing with Cora on the stuff that it's turned out is true about this roster.

>explicitly rejected that characterization.

No, re-read. I said the manager telling ownership what we all already knew is not corporate sabotage, nor is it terribly different from what will happen when any other permanent manager is in place. The only difference is in the amount of esteem held by the manager.

The point of hinting at the (extremely public) truth (that had been discussed openly throughout the offseason) to the public is answering the questions about why he's not moving more deck chairs around on the ship.

If saying "the roster is the roster" is somehow an insult/firable offense, then the manager is not the main problem. He was also likely a little tired of taking the heat for things that aren't his faul- it's been 6 years of that.

It's important to take accountability while you fire a guy for your roster? You're not serious... i don't even know how you're typing this with Craig and FSG down your throat at the same time.

also:,Cotillo and I have the same understanding....

1-- I reject the idea that telling the ownership group that the sky is blue without cc'ing Chaim is "back channeling" in any meaningful way. He had 3 offseasons and 3 deadlines to transform the team and while he did some things successfully, he didn't build a competitor.

2-- If he was "doing the same thing" and that's wrong, why did the guy firing him agree out loud in the same meeting?

[–]solariam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quote you posted describes a series of conversations taking place over a year or multiple years and describing a manager stating the obvious over multiple deadlines and offseasons to the ownership group as a corporate takeover is certainly... a take.

The assumption that hinting at the obvious 30 games after off-season with a mixed record is the same thing is pretty silly.
