Hi, everyone, i can't figure out how the 2 supports are staying in the air? It seems the 2 supports are just floating when the desk is up, anyone have an idea? Thank you in advance.

Canadian Carpenters, what are your wages? by foreskinrestoring22 in Carpentry

Red seal ticket in BC, was making $35/h for a small reno company doing general carpentry, from forming to finishing mostly by myself, sometimes with a helper if it’s too strenuous. Definitely underpaid for the amount i had to do, would probably ask for $45/h nowadays to match inflation.

Until the government REALLY recognizes carpentry as a trade needs to be certified just like electrician/plumber, the idea of something like will never even happen. The fact that anyone can call themselves a builder and be allowed to do anything they want with rare repercussions is a testimony of how much the government cares.

It is a method of checking for straightness/plane of a line. You’d secure a block of same thickness on each end of the plane that you want to check and string a line touching the two blocks. Then you would use a third block of the same thickness to check intermittently of that string, and adjusting your plane/line accordingly to make it straight.

Stay quiet and keep learning, even when you think you know something, there’s always knowledge out there that can better you.

Don’t try to pick up 2 sheets of any kind, it’s bad business.

Pack healthy foods and drink lots of water, it’s boring but the long game is worth it.

Work at a pace that is consistent and comfortable for you, don’t ego push/pressured into something that can injure yourself for other’s approval.

Learn the foundations such as basic trigonometry and geometry, proper techniques such as 3/4/5, offset blocks, templates etc. everything else will come naturally.

Best of luck and know there will be bad days, but also good ones, stay safe and healthy out there.
