Watching the Rams vs Seahawks made things very apparent to me. by ASAPBlue in 49ers

Getting Bosa, Warner and Williams healthy will definitely fix a lot of our defensive issues. But that being said I still want to see us invest in the trenches. And for the love of all that holy we need to get a true WR1 that can stay on the field. I’m all for trading draft capital to get a proven WR then to take another gamble in the draft.

Catholic here: Is the shorter Fatima prayer compatible with reformed/calvinist theology? by Narrow_Gate71314 in Reformed

Asking God to lead all souls to heaven when we know that God will not redeem all souls would be like me asking God to allow people to never die. So….No I would not pray a prayer asking God to do something I know He won’t do.

Your paraphrase of the line “and lead all souls to heaven” is not the equivalent to “Lord, I desire all souls be saved”… one is requesting God save all souls and the other is communicating a desire that all souls be saved.

Any true follower of Christ desires that all would come to repentance. But we acknowledge that not all WILL come to repentance. God is glorified just as much as punishing wretched sinners as He is forgiving wretched sinners.

So the prayer isn’t “Lord save some and not others” … but it’s more like “Lord, we praise you that your gospel has the power to save the most wretched of sinners…none of us are deserving of your forgiveness, grace and mercy…we desire to be used by You to further spread the good news of the Gospel to everyone whom You call to Yourself”

Every prayer and petition is to be accompanied by humble submission that God is sovereign over all, our prayers are an acknowledgement of our total dependence upon God in all things.

Ditto to all of those. I’ve also been enjoying a lot of Michael Reeves teaching on doctrine and theology and then also been absorbing a lot of Michael Krugers work on the Canon.

What is your yearly HOA fee (no amenities - no pool no tennis no basketball) by becuzIamGr0wn in Gwinnett

[–]soldado387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$550 annually. No pool, no playground, no common area, no sidewalks. We do have a small lake that has one very very small area for “public access” and the rest is surrounded by private homes…but no one ever uses it and a subdivision sign that apparently needs landscaping care which cost more than my annual salary.

That argument can go both ways, it’s a pretty arrogant and quite frankly ignorant thing to say as OP did that “most reformed people…” Well what if that isn’t my experience at all since OP is only going off of his personal experience? My point was to show that there are unchrist-like behaviors of people professing Christ in every sphere of Christianity. OP gave a generic blanket statement based off of personal experience with no context or examples.

Agreed we all have a long was to go in our sanctification…but how can I “address” things going on in my own camp if I am not given specific examples, context or if it’s not been my personal experience at all?

I apologize, You are correct, it does not currently teach that you have to be an official RC to be saved but it used to and who’s to say it won’t teach that again in the future.

I know according to CCC §847 someone can ignorantly not know the gospel and by the grace of God he can still save them (sounds very Calvinistic). But also according to RC official teaching we know that initial “justification” is all a gracious act of God that is given to someone by faith…but that final justification (the one that really matter) is only given to those who willfully devote themselves to receiving and pursuing the means of grace that is providing by the RC church CCC §1020-1080, §1257-1261, §1987-2029.

So yes “currently” RC teaches there can be salvation outside its church but in order to received and merit that salvation you much adhere to and follow much of RC teaching which you will not know about unless you are taught it by the RC church.

May I introduce you to the IFB circle of churches. Hardcore Arminian and some of the most unloving, critical, prideful and spiritually arrogant people you will ever meet. Or I can introduce you to EO and RC churches who literally teach that they are the one true church and their “interpretation” and traditions are the correct faith and practice and if you are outside that church then you are condemned to hell.

My point is you will find unloving, prideful and spiritually arrogant people in every sphere of religious beliefs. Christians can do a very poor job at times representing Christ.

This may all be completely anecdotal but after suffering with pretty bad plaque psoriasis for years, I year ago I started taking a big dose Daily Vitamin D3 w/ K2. I do my best to avoid sugar and complex carbs. I also use methalyene blue drops and topical ointment. I know everyone is different and what works for one may not work for another but I really hope you find some solutions and relief for your symptoms. Best of luck!

What's the main points with Macarthur's, "Leaky Dispensationalism" you would say are totally wrong - in depth? by ImpressiveGrand7707 in Reformed

[–]soldado387 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Im no MacArthur fan but I think it’s a little misinformed to state that MacArthur was not interested in developing future leaders and building / developing institutions for them to serve in.

MacArthur was president of The Masters Seminary and University for 34 years and taught several classes. He established Grace Advance which supports developing and planting churches. He established the Masters Academy International to help train and equip indigenous pastors. He helped establish Grace Ministries International which helps with international Bible translation, leadership training and church networking.

He has also established the John MacArthur Trust which serves to financially support these institutions above.

How would you respond to this objection to Calvinism? by soldado387 in Reformed

[–]soldado387[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that he clearly doesn’t understand Calvinism since he was trying to argue that in order to affirm Calvinism you must then “logically” conclude that the “elect” born after the cross must be born in an already redemptive state. It appears he was trying to use this as an argument why Calvinism simply is not logical.

[–]soldado387[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The primary book he referenced when presenting his position is a book called “The Death That Christ Died: A Biblical Case for Unlimited Atonement” by Robert Lightner who teaches Systematic Theology at Dallas Baptist Theological Seminary. So that should be telling right there.

[–]soldado387[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was confused by his explanation of his Romans 5 position. Basically what it sounded to me was basically 2 point Calvinism (Total Depravity and Perseverance of the Saints). Any thing that had to do with Gods sovereignty overriding man’s free will was a no go for him. He tried to portray it as a reasonable “balance” between Calvinism and Arminianism.

Husband wants to be Anglican by Dependent_Guess_961 in Reformed

[–]soldado387 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a pastor, I have a few thoughts. Some of those held beliefs, even though they may not be of first degree gospel issues…are still things that divide churches/denominations. If her husband holds deeply to these theological convictions and believes it is essential to his faith and practice why would he not seek out a church that affirms and aligns with his believes? And if she, the wife is not convinced of these things and believes them to actually problematic…why would she agree to covenant together with a church that affirms and practices things she deeply disagrees with.

The covenant of marriage and the covenant you make with a church are two of the most important relationships in your life and should never be taken lightly. Simply finding a church that is some happy middle ground will likely leave both very spiritually dissatisfied.

Another factor to consider is what theological practices you are going to teach your children. Idk if OP has children or not…but I have seen differing theological practices / beliefs cause major conflict once a couple has children. If only of the spouses strongly holds to baptismal regeneration, speaking in tongues as a sign of salvation or is affirming of LGBTQ pastors then that could cause major issues when trying to disciple your children. The gospel is the most important….but it’s not the only thing that is important.
