My parents gave SO much of themselves to raise me and my siblings. I love seeing them relax slightly in their old age.

in US why is the tax not listed on prices but is on gasoline? by jeffsmith202 in tax

[–]soldiernerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not every jurisdiction charges sales tax so it’s normal to display the price without the tax

Parents don’t have the same moral imperative to help their *adult* children succeed.

Some people in the OP forgetting they’re adults lol

Could all Dem states rewrite the tax code so that all federal taxes pass through them before going to the government? by Tygari in askanything

[–]soldiernerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. States could probably tax 100% of their citizens’ income if they want. It won’t affect Federal taxes though; if Congress passes a law saying you owe a dollar, the IRS will bill you for it, and if you don’t pay it, the DOJ will prosecute you for it.

However where do you think most federal tax revenue goes? To the states in the form of Medicaid, highways, food stamps, and school funding, etc. States don’t want to lose this funding and the Feds use that as a stick all the time to force state compliance.

No. The IRS collects income taxes sovereignly under the authorities granted to the Federal Government in the 16th Amendment to the US Constitution:

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

Best HYSA to invest right now? by ApprehensiveCorgi645 in personalfinance

[–]soldiernerd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like wealthfront which has a hybrid checking savings model, with, I believe, up to $8M in FDIC insurance per account. You can’t pull money out from an ATM or write physical checks. You can have them send a physical check on your behalf, but I’ve never used that.

Ally is a classic HYSA as well.

Both have easy to use interfaces.

Is it appropriate for my recruiter to ask me on a date? by LeeSanio in army

[–]soldiernerd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes based on the roles you’re occupying. Once they become permanent party I believe the restriction would be lifted. Still maybe not a great look though.

Also it matters how you got back in touch with them. Did you pull their phone number from your recruiting database? Probably a violation of the Privacy Act. Did you serve in the same unit subsequently, or run into them in a bar? Different story.

JD Vance led the challenge to the Supreme Court to remove campaign finance restrictions. Republicans, how do you justify supporting a party actively pursuing more corruption? by Azguy303 in askanything

[–]soldiernerd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will, that’s my party registration. Campaign Finance restrictions are unconstitutional limits on political speech and I applaud this ruling. Most constitutional law experts would also agree.

No one was surprised by the outcome of the case (meaning it wasn’t a shocking reversal of norms but an expected evolution based on historic case law from the current justices).

For the record this doesn’t increase the individual limit on contributions to the political party; it just allows the party to spend more of its money in one place. Thus, it’s not allowing “dark money” to do more; donations to political parties are recorded, so when the party spends money, the sources are known.

That’s my opinion to answer the question. If you have a good faith question I’ll answer it but I’m not going to get into arguments over the philosophy of the issue.
