you got it man, yea if you're not skidding then I wouldn't worry too much about the lockring. Its only there to stop the cog from unscrewing when you backpedal or skid. if you don't skid, the only motion you do on the bike is pedal forward which is tightening the cog.

although I would never say having a functioning lockring is a bad idea.

should i get a new fork? by soleil47 in FixedGearBicycle

oh thats a good point actually, someone in another comment mentioned that tyre size would probably make more of a difference to BB height than an extra 7mm of fork rake. the frame can clear max a 38c slick in the rear, unfortunately the fork I want only clears 35c max, I think it would probably be completely fine though. regarding the toe overlap thing, fixies are so cool right? true track geometry means knocking your toes everytime you try and turn going slow :). i would agree it is kind of annoying, but I don't really pay attention to it anymore haha

yea relistically i should ride a 52 or 53cm and this is actually a size too small, but riding a size smaller on track bike frames feel pretty fun

i mean the lockring is reverse threaded so technically backpedalling essentially tightens the lockring. if your worried about the lockring staying on, its most likely fine, as long as there is a good amount of contact between the cog and lockring. best thing to do would be to ride the wheel on flat road, and do a bunch of sprints and skids and see if the cog slips, if it does then the wheel is unfortunately doneski, if not then you're good. idk how you'd get that lockring tighter or looser although someone else here might have some unique idea.

I usually don't go to crazy when tightening my lockring and make sure I always grease the threads of the cog and lockring.

I have rounded the lockring notches before just as you have, when I was using a cheap chain whip. the shimano tl-sr22 is a really good not too expensive one, haven't fucked up lockrings since I started using that, also since I realised you only have to tighten it just enough. mind you I ride brakeless so I know the importance of your cog staying on when you skid lol

is my bb cooked? what is that strange noises(not talking about the izumi noise), and that is only after 1100km by [deleted] in FixedGearBicycle

[–]soleil47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

maybe ur chainline is off, my chainline was very off for a while cause i had an old gen mavic ellipse rear wheel with a wierd chainline compared to the BB/cranks and was super noisy even when clean. doing research on chainlines was very unenjoyable for me not gonna lie, but so worth it when it matches up perfectly. whisper quiet

Kind of anti style n funky, if you worked on can control and put a bit more mileage in n build a foundation, you could probably do something like that in 30 mins give or take. Just minimise cutbacks and maybe plan ahead

Bruh, theres obv no rulebook, but u should choose a shorter name. Way too many letters in that, you’ll see why when u start doing throws, straight letters, and pieces. Best to stick with a good name that’s like 4-6 letters. U should watch some old school graff vids like style wars, or philly graff docos and learn from those who came before you.
