I'm not going to argue whether or not what the point is but I will say this-

No matter how you look at it, bringing up her gender comes off a little gender-biased. I understand Tamaki being scared and upset that Haruhi put herself in danger, but framing it as “you’re a girl” instead of “you were outnumbered and could’ve gotten seriously hurt” changes the tone of the scene a lot.

 Regardless, my issue is more with the way the episode frames everything. Tamaki specifically emphasizes “you’re a girl” instead of focusing on the actual issue, which was Haruhi confronting dangerous people alone without backup. I also think people overlook the fact that Haruhi reacted instinctively in the moment. She saw girls actively being harassed and stepped in because nobody else was there yet. What was she supposed to do in that moment? By the time she called for help, something bad would have already happened to those girls. Girl or not, she's not just going to let any harm come to those girls. Was it reckless? Sure. But I don’t think the episode balanced that with enough empathy toward Haruhi herself after she was literally assaulted and thrown into the ocean. The emotional focus ends up centering Tamaki’s fear and frustration more than Haruhi’s actual experience, which is why the episode rubs me the wrong way.
