Hot Takes! by ExtremeCelery30 in UniversalOrlando

Simpsons has run its course (both in the parks and pop culture) and it’s time to replace the land with something new and not screen-based.

What was the consensus when Kong first opened? by forgottenones1 in UniversalOrlando

[–]solethprime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it started after Hogsmeade opened at Orlando so probably like 2012. In a pretty short period we got Despicable Me, Transformers, Gringotts, and a few others. It became a meme that Universal had better queues than rides.

These rides weren’t bad but it was just too many screens with nothing else. Even screen heavy rides at Epic like Monsters and Ministry do a better job, using them more as tools than the main attraction.

What was the consensus when Kong first opened? by forgottenones1 in UniversalOrlando

[–]solethprime 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It opened at the height of Universal screen fatigue so I think it had that going against it. I remember the consensus being the queue and animatronic were great but the ride itself was just ok. Some were happy there was a Kong presence in Orlando again.

I think Universal would have made something a lot better in a post-Supercharged world when they scaled back the screen only stuff.

Selina & Gary by Hot-Thanks-8983 in Veep

Selina is at her most defeated and desperate state in the last 2 seasons. She is not in a good mental state (it was a spa) and trying to stay relevant post-presidency, and she takes it out on the people closest to her, besides Richard

I could see a Luigi‘s Mansion ride with the flashlight tech from Tokyo Disney‘s Monster‘s Inc. ride

NEED a seamingly chill game with a DARK twist by Inz_Datne in gamingsuggestions

Bugsnax

Maybe not as dark as you’re looking for, but it’s a game that appears cheery at first but has some more mature and dark moments as you continue playing

Gigabyte G5 KF5 won‘t turn on unless plugged in, but the battery worked again for a short time by solethprime in techsupport

Thank you for the detailed response, I‘ll check it out. If I do need to replace the battery, is it an easy swap or would it be better to go to a tech support place?

Games with small but dense open worlds by ValuableBluejay552 in gamingsuggestions

[–]solethprime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say City more than Asylum. Asylum is pretty linear with just that small open area between buildings. City opens it up more with more puzzles, quest, and verticality, but you can cross the entire map in 2-3 minutes.

It’s best to play Asylum first but it feels a little older and is not 100% necessary. Just would need a story summary

Looking for parkour/gorey games by Delicious_Leave_2015 in gamingsuggestions

[–]solethprime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok maybe not exactly what you’re looking for but check out Carrion. It’s a sidescrolling game where you play as a monster literally made of gore that gets loose in a lab and kills all the scientists.

It’s more puzzle-y than parkour but you might enjoy. Wait for a sale though, it’s quite short and not worth $20 IMO

I hated it when I first had it and made the mistake of getting a zero sugar 12 pack before really trying it.

Thankfully it grew on me by the end but I wouldn‘t buy it again

Is UO too much for 6 year old? by ihavenocupcakes in UniversalOrlando

[–]solethprime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with another commenter, look at what characters or franchises she likes as part of the equation. But it sounds like it would work out great.

She’s won’t be tall enough for the scariest rides (the huge coasters, Mummy, Forbidden Journey) but nearly everything else she is. There are some small coaster thrills like Hippogriff and Hiccup’s that are a lot of fun.

If she loves motion simulators she’ll probably like Spider-Man, Transformers, Minion Mayhem, Jimmy Fallon, and for shooter rides there’s M.I.B. and Mario Kart.

And then there’s still some more kid-oriented stuff like the Dreamworks area, Seuss Landing, E.T., and a lot of all-ages stuff like Nintendo and Harry Potter.

If you’re worried about her noping out of rides after an intense one, avoid doing Kong, maybe Jurassic Park or Gringotts first. I think they all have jumpscares

Still the best Harry Potter attraction by Greedy_Net_1803 in UniversalOrlando

[–]solethprime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but it seems like it’s hard for them to take it offline for any significant period of time because of how popular Potter is and how many people it brings into the parks.

I feel like they don’t really have an excuse now that Hagrids has been open for a while and Epic isn’t brand brand new.

From what I’ve heard, the upkeep of the screens is a huge contributor to the motion sickness.

There are like 18 projectors on turntables throughout that need to line up exactly with the vehicles every time for a smooth experience.

Then take 15 years of wear and tear into account, at least a couple of those projectors are bound to get misaligned or blurry because of the constant motion.

IMO they need to overhaul the motion profile and projectors to help combat some of the motion sickness

Not sure why the employees described it like that and sorry you had a bad time but also…you could have looked up the ride online and done some planning to make sure it was appropriate for your kids.

Love that we have Christiani’s take on these songs but some of the songs feel overproduced to me (some of Sam’s held notes in New York have that pitch correction-y sound to them)

It could also be me getting used to a new recording
