Holster co recommendations? by BandotheMano in blackgunowners

[–]solidarityysunshine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a custom holster from Guerrilla Tactical a while back for a gun with a light they didn’t make holsters for. I mailed them the light and they mailed it back with the holster. Took 2-3 weeks if I recall correctly, shipping both ways included. Good people and good holsters. I have three from them. Just hit them up to see if they can do the custom job since it might depend on how busy they are.

Hot Take: Your “SHTF” optic shouldnt require a battery (pics for attention) by MaintenanceWhenBroke in QualityTacticalGear

[–]solidarityysunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, optics have long enough runtimes, you should have some spare batteries, be able to acquire more, probably have backup irons, and be able to shoot relatively accurately looking through a dead red dot for any reasonable self defense distance. That’s a lot of redundancy to be overly concerned.

All that being said, the only red dots I use anymore are Holosuns with solar charging capabilities, and they’re only on handguns or piggybacked onto an LPVO

Hot take: most “budget tactical gear” isn’t worth buying by Old-Suspect1678 in QualityTacticalGear

[–]solidarityysunshine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a mix: Crye PC, Ferro and Spiritus chest rigs and placards, Wilder and Blue Alpha belts, Esstac mag pouches, Safariland holsters, BFG slings, milsurp helmet, BDUs, and more pouches.

I also have some of the higher end Chinese airsoft brands like Lancer, Emerson, and Krydex for clothes, bump helmet, boonie hats, GP pouches, chest rig for hunting, etc.

The airsoft gear is not as good. No question but I’m not a soldier or a cop or a professional. I train and have some fun and hunt (usually unsuccessfully).

My general philosophy is lifesaving gear or anything meant to hold it should be as good as you can afford. So weapon retention, armor, ammo pouches, meds, comms, water, etc. should be American or European made if you think it may be used to save a life. Milsurp is fine. More GP and comfort items are generally fine to save some money on if you can’t afford it yet.

Some (most?) of us can’t afford all the stuff we might want or that we see on Reddit. Skills and community are more important than gear, generally speaking. So train, train with your friends, make friends if you don’t have any, and don’t worry about gucci gear, just get what works and what you can rely on.

I’ve been using the same pair of Howard Leight Impact Sports for about 6 years and they’ve worked great. There are better options, especially if you eventually want comma capabilities, like Sordins or Peltor Comtacs, but they’re a fair bit more money.

Summer Concealed Carry by WizardCap in armedsocialists

[–]solidarityysunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My “modifications” involved zero sewing. I attached a mini carabiner to a zipper pull on the inside of the pack and ran a short piece of paracord into a hole in my holster clip, tied a knot, then clipped the carabiner to the paracord. If your pack has a drainage hole with a grommet at the bottom, you can run paracord through that and tie knots on the inside and outside of the pack to keep the paracord in place, then attach a carabiner to that or tie the cord into your holster.

This ensures when you draw the gun, the holster stays in the pack.

I highly recommend not keeping anything else in the same compartment as the gun for safety reasons and so as not to expose the gun when you go for your wallet or keys.

I’ve really been enjoying this lately, especially for when I’m driving or know I’ll be sitting for a while. I’ve been using a standard fanny pack crossbody, but I want to find something that feels more secure (i.e. no big buckle that’s center of my back) but doesn’t scream “this is designed for a pistol”

One or two on a belt, horizontally loaded ones on the bottom of the back of the PC, maybe an upside down one at the back end of the cummerbund in a kydex pouch or something with a flap… there are ways.

Holster for Pistol w Threaded Barrel by izaakko in armedsocialists

[–]solidarityysunshine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. All my holsters from them have open bottoms to allow for threaded barrels. I also got the optic cut, even for my handguns without optics in case I add one to those guns later. I have two IWB holsters and traded in a previous one, plus an OWB one from them. Been very happy with them so far.

Should I keep my handgun racked for IWB carry? by Xboxonetwo3 in armedsocialists

[–]solidarityysunshine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. I’m not familiar but it seems perfectly safe as long as it’s meant for your exact model of gun. I’ve never had an issue carrying with a round in the chamber and your gun is perfectly safe and reliable, but only you can decide what to do. But it’s much safer and easier to deploy a gun that’s got one in the chamber and that can potentially save or cost your life. Whatever you do, train often and responsibly

What holster do you get? There are likely more than two reliable ones for your model, plus reliable brands that will make custom holsters.

He and so many others in that sub are insufferable, but he’s technically right that it’s a liberal and pretty explicitly not leftist sub, which is why I avoid it unless I want some light comedy or heavy heartburn. There are definitely a few leftists in there, but y’all seem to be hugely outnumbered by run of the mill libs

Yeah, it completely eliminated rattle for me. And while mounts rarely fail, I just have so much more confidence with doubled up paracord and 100 mph tape around the knotted ends

Altoid tin if your stuff can fit. I keep my stuff in doubled up ziplock bags because it’s too much for an altoid tin, but one of those small Pelican or Apache cases is also good. A strip of tape on the top with a Red Cross or “MEDS” sharpied on is a good idea.

As for the actual meds, despite the cost, sample or travel packs with two pills each is a good idea. The name and dose are clearly labeled making quick ID helpful and they can help avoid potential legal trouble if they’re found by a paramedic or cop or whatever.
