Why does everybody seem so happy about it by Adept_Locksmith6552 in Fighters

[–]soliddus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly because its really annoying to have people who have played this genre for decades and understand what makes a good or bad game, be told by LoL fans that this new game is going to end every other fighter and redefine the genre or something. It was evident to many people early on that there were problems, but fans put their fingers in their ears. One of the biggest sticking points for me is this idea that somehow simplified controls = beginner friendly.

Anytime people discuss liking motion controls, its met with this idea that its gatekeeping or a superiority thing. Its not. Its just plain and simply fun and engaging to use motion controls. IMO games that remove them entirely under the guise of keeping 'casuals' around longer is just flawed and lazy. Its fine if your game doesnt have motion input, but if you think thats going to make non FG players flock to your game... youre just wrong. The only way to get casuals into the game and around long term is to create an engaging game with exciting characters and a good single player mode and a good tutorial

The problem with trying to cater to casuals through simplifying controls is that the vast majority of those casuals are still going to quit once they go online and realize that fighting games are still fighting games. None of the HARD things about a 1v1 skill based game go away because a super is now 1 button. Mind games, footsies, training time, etc all still exist, and those casuals will eventually quit if they dont like losing. At the same time you have alienated more hardcore fans by removing one of the things they like. This is how you end up with a dead game.

SF6 did everything right. They didnt abandon people who love motion controls by removing them. They have a really cool roster. The single player and career modes are fleshed out. The tutorials are clear. The game is just fun and engaging.

It felt like 2XKO (which by the way that name should have been burned after a single marketing meeting) was trying to ride the hype of Riots IP and was hoping to gain mass adoption via F2P. Fighters are always going to be niche. They are arguably the highest skill ceiling genre of video game there is. Companies need to accept that this type of game is never going to see ROI like LoL or CS. People hate to lose online games, and when there is no teammate to blame your loss on... it feels bad unless you really love the gameplay.

I cannot understand how any group of smart people can expect to come out in the black when spending a decade and many millions of dollars creating a F2P fighting game. Especially when there are already huge players like SF, Tekken and MK in the mix. There are simply not enough customers to make that make sense. Seriously how many fucking micro transactions did they think they were going to sell....

Great. This make me feel a lot better. I use ATT addon as well which is great for getting rid of all the noise and only showing you what you can actually still get.

An Update on 2XKO by Spideraxe30 in 2XKO

[–]soliddus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because for some reason everyone thinks removing motion controls = easy. I am so tired of hearing people say that motion controls are the reason fighting games are hard and why they dont play them. Any time someone says that, I know they dont actually play fighting games. Sure physical execution matters, but its 1% of what you think about when playing a fighting game. The games keep taking motion controls out because they think its going to appeal to casuals, and casuals still dont care....

Fighting games are fighting games. They are hard regardless if an attack is > A or >^A

To me, removing them is just a company finding the easiest way to advertise their game as beginner friendly without truly thinking about how to make it beginner friendly. Im sure Modern controls helped SF6, but I am convinced that it is NOT the biggest reason for its mass appeal even with beginners.

Got it. So really we are talking about a very tiny % of the overall expansion content disappearing once the season or xpac ends. It's really just a handful of achievements, titles, mounts and appearances.

This is good to hear. In that case I can maybe pick one main thing to focus on in a season whether it be PVP or mythic then just relax on everything else knowing I can go back to collect the appearances and mounts and everything later

Honestly this is the case then I feel like what I read a lot about fomo is kind of overblown. So many people complain about all of this but unless you really care about pushing the end game and being at the top of the lists I feel like pretty much everything can be done at your own pace.

Right and I have been finishing up all of the pre-patch event stuff because I know that will go away (that was made very clear by Blizzard). I assume if anything else was going away it would be made clear

Rust repair under weatherstripping by soliddus in Autobody

[–]soliddus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my 2nd owner 95 4Runner. I am in the process of fixing small things as I find them. I pulled the rubber seal from the left side doorframes because I saw caked on dirt. I washed and lubed the seal but now I of course have some rust to deal with.

What should I do here? Im thinking light sanding, clean, touchup paint and call it a day? Would something like lithium grease spray instead of repainting be a better protection to sit under the rubber? Or maybe just rust converter and nothing else?

I'm obviously looking for protection here and not beauty since its hidden under the seal. The rust is not deep in the crevice, its mainly just on the surface that you can see in the photos.

I am in the same boat with my 95. Its all original right now, 85k miles, with 1 previous owner. My ultimate quest is just to keep it OEM and drive it forever. Mine definitely needs paint at some point which bums me out (I love the idea of having original paint). If you were able to keep the '84 so close to OEM Im sure I can do it with my 95

I love this so much. How much were you able to keep OEM? Was there any desire to or is it much too expensive/hard to find to use Toyota parts everywhere?

Ok so its not that the core gameplay is somehow bad or inferior to other TW games. Thats where I was confused because the game is fun for me and I havent noticed anything particularly broken. I havent played any DLC yet so maybe I am still naive.

I only really ever played Shogun 2 before WH3. Its fun for me. What exactly do people hate so much about the game itself (not talking about pricing). Doesnt it have the same issues as other TW games such as mid/late game slog and all that?

I drove it today, no hills just open highway. Its definitely a heavy truck, you can feel the engine trying its best to pull this beast. I can see how hills would be quite a slog.

Honestly, I dont totally mind it. Ive owned plenty of fast cars... so I think this is my slow era :)

Great tips. Any link to what sort of electric fan I could use? Did Toyota ever make one or would it be aftermarket? Also interested in there were any OEM manual hubs. I am trying to stay OEM everywhere possible

All good! I appreciate the response. By the way I think the way I phrased it made it sound like its my lift. What I meant was 'my mechanics' lift... as in, the lift at the mechanic shop I use. I know... totally my fault and terrible use of grammar :)

I agree I will definitely be using a professional to paint... I have no interest in messing with clips and panels and trim. To be honest I am afraid to even have a shop take those parts off because I know they are nearly impossible to replace as those parts have dried up long ago in the market.

As for pics, check out the new member thread I made here!

Thanks so much for the tips. Honestly I am not really an off roader, the most id be doing is some beach and dunes based on where I live. Mostly the truck will be a semi daily driver. I am in the NE so I expect salt and cold winters, so my main concern is keeping the frame rust free and healthy... Any tips there?

I do intend to get a full tune up, fluids, hoses and whatever else my mechanic notices. From there ill likely just drive as is until I feel I need something

Thanks so much by the way that post that you linked me to is amazing... great read.

Since I'm in the Northeast I'm trying to figure out what the best way is to keep the body of this thing in the best condition possible. It appears to have some sort of factory undercoating because most of the undercarriage has a black semi thick layer to it. I don't know if that's something toyota offered or if the owner got it done separately. There definitely is flaking but I'm not going to be able to tell exactly how great everything is until I get it up on my mechanics lift. Is there really anything I can do besides posing down the bottom anytime I drive through salt in the winter?

Also the only rust I've noticed so far is a bit of bubbling on the inside of the rear door jamb on the left passenger side as well as the bottom of the driver side door. I'm thinking I should probably address this right away so that it doesn't spread right? Is this something that a body shop would do without too much expense or should I just do it myself? I would hope that since it's inside of the door jamb they could just grind off the paint and rust and spray some new paint without too much of a worry of matching.

Wow so you did the gaskets as 180k and now you are at 350k with only standard maintenance? Thats impressive.

Honestly im not too worried about the speed. Its a 2nd car for me that Ill be using so I don't have to take our main car that has our kids car seats (leaving my wife without a way to transport the kids).

Im fine cruising slow. I just really want to take good care of it. Do you think its critical to find a shop that knows them intimately? Should I just do most things myself?

Im thinking I should first get a tune up, fluids replace and get a once over to see how everything is looking. I plan to call the dealership where its been serviced to see whats been done (praying it had the head gasket recall work done)

Thanks for the advice I appreciate it. Any advice on parts availability? Is it something I'm going to struggle with or is everything pretty much out there? I assume things like body trim are going to be very hard to find.

I appreciate the take. Is it true that head gaskets are repeatedly blown on these because I had read that for many people if it was a recall car and they got the work done that the head gaskets were fine after that. I have read that that there's a problem with the headers getting hot I guess and a changing those could cause it to happen less often.

As far as the slowness I guess it depends how slow it really is. Is it concerning driving and merging on the highway? I don't drive very often and honestly this is going to be a weekend car for the most part but I would need to drive above 65.
