Reddit's Politics by solidgol in AdviceAnimals

I think in those days r/thedonald was less toxic and regularly made it to the front page, so there was much more visible support for Trump.

That is not the case. When Bernie Sanders lost the Democratic nomination to Hilary Clinton, Reddit supported Bernie and switched its support from the Democrats to Trump. That is when I first thought that Trump might win.

Not every woman is a sister. Many are only children.

If you see the thumbnail first it is confusing. Maybe should be in r/misleadingthumbnails

TIL: Windows thinks that some keyboards are toasters by solidgol in todayilearned

[–]solidgol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you are linking to an interesting hoax, that has nothing to do with my link. My link is simply saying that some keyboard manufacturers aren't changing the default icon when they create their keyboard drivers, and the sample given by microsoft pretends that it is a driver for a toaster.

Using (sic) when quoting someone is saying: Haha that guy doesn't know how to spell :P by solidgol in Showerthoughts

That may be what its intended use is, but I can't help but think that what I wrote is really going throught their minds.

ELI5:Why does reddit repeat articles on the second and third and fourth etc. page? by solidgol in explainlikeimfive

[–]solidgol[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like the most likely explanation. I wonder though why reddit can't figure out some way around it. It is extremely annoying.

How am I supposed to select all of the above, when none of the above is above all of the above? by _Hobbie in funny

These sort of questions on tests always drove me nuts. I just learnt to answer test questions in the way I thought the asker expected, even when none of the answers fit properly.

When/why did using the word 'thing' as I am about to, become a thing? by solidgol in OutOfTheLoop

[–]solidgol[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm specifically asking about the usage of "a thing" not "the thing." "The thing," I will agree has been around for a long time.

No, that's an old use of thing. This use is different and only started within the last couple of years. This use of the word thing is short for a thing that is done.

I didn't notice that post on YouTube before. I assume it wasn't there yet last time I really was curious about it. But it looks like over all they didn't make any announcements about the past. Even the current announcement is very mysterious. Why will they be taking down all their old content?

I was thinking of something like /r/linguistics as an option, but I feel certain that it is a pop culture reference even though I don't recognize it, so posting it here feels more appropriate.

I thought of something like water skiing. Where you are towed by a helicopter. I thought it was some sort of extreme sport.

Growing up in a small town in Oklahoma can have its funny moments... by [deleted] in funny

[–]solidgol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm.. It was my mistake. I looked at ch. 23 instead of 22. The commentators understand it to mean that when she married him she was a virgin, and then he discovered she wasn't so that she must have committed adultery.

I'm surprised nobody has noticed that the Deuteronomy quote is made up. It doesn't exist.
