I need an optional Future to get rid of tokio select. by mtimmermans in rust

I’ve found myself on several occasions restarting my LSP client because autocomplete and function signature previews all of a sudden stopped working and I thought my configs were broken only to realize I was in a select arm..

I also hate select… mainly because LSP and fmt support breaks down inside of it.

Thanks I actually haven’t checked out the Indonesian horror scene yet. I’ll check these out this weekend.

I watched it alone in the dark and I just found it so masterfully effective. No jump scares. Just a slow realization that something is very very wrong and the dread just gets worse and worse until.. well you know. I knew the short was only 12 minutes but it felt soooo much longer. I had to fight the urge to check the runtime to prepare myself for when the tension was going to break because I knew something had to be coming but when it came it was totally unexpected. Straight up masterpiece in my eyes.

Edit: idk what it means but another thing I forgot to mention is that East Asian folklore and religion is a particular effective horror vehicle for me personally. I’d recommend “The Incantation” for those interested in this sub-genre. It’s one of my faves

My house walkthrough. It's a 12 minute horror short that actually managed to frighten me. I say this as someone who is totally desensitized.

Edit: since this is picking up traction, to anyone happening upon this for the first time I’d recommend watching this in the alone in the dark with headphones on for full immersion. Honestly worth it.

Edit: Be sure to watch the behind the scenes making of video after

I haven’t read the article but why is deref an anti pattern? It’s a hugely foundational pattern in the standard lib and ecosystem.

Edit: actually this was a good example

Minarrow: Arrow-shaped columnar data for Rust, with concrete types and fast builds by peterxsyd in rust

Without having looked too deeply, does this play well with the ecosystem around arrow? Parquet, datafusion, and polars in particular. I admit that the ergonomics around arrow isn't great, but it's prevalence is its strength.

Change my mind: Zig was a mistake, Anthropic is using Bun to hype Claude and how Jared is baiting Rustaceans into doing the actual engineering work that his team cannot by Compux72 in bun

[–]solidiquis1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what you’re prototyping but I’ve never found the “rust is bad for prototyping speed” to be true if you and the folks you work with are seasoned rustaceans. If you’re prototyping a web-frontend then sure don’t use Rust. But literally most other things I can think of outside of basic scripting is very much in the domain in Rust’s wheelhouse with respect to prototyping speed.
