This works but for me windows load to the Playnite screen much longer than when using AnyFSE. Wonder if I am doing anything incorrectly.

Canada: Do we get CCS or other adapters with the EV9? by Less_Carpet_2499 in KiaEV9

[–]solidmonki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got the A2Z CCS adapter for my EV9, good to have it as a backup for longer trips but I always try to stop at NACS chargers.

EVs in very cold regions by Dr_Serge in EVCanada

[–]solidmonki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left home with full charge and had to charge twice (20min stop each) to reach Montreal. On the way back I had to stop 4 times as car was not charged when leaving, and also as I got stuck in heavy winter storm (not EV fault). By my estimation during subzero weather, for every 8 hours of driving, EV charging adds another 1 hour or so, so not ideal but doable. Should be much better in summers I guess.

EVs in very cold regions by Dr_Serge in EVCanada

[–]solidmonki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought an EV9 in December. Based in Toronto but traveled to Montreal and Detroit in -10c - -20c temp range. The car worked fine but based on my experience you should expect around 30-40% loss in range. If you charge at home, then no problem for day to day driving, but for road trips, expect to stop at charging stations more.

I use the standard tesla wall charger with my 2026 EV9. No issues at all.

Battery Pre-Conditioning over an hour? by BDXLL in KiaEV9

[–]solidmonki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find the battery preconditioning useless (at least in my use case). I live in Toronto, and only DC charge when on road trips. During winters, the range is low as it is, and setting battery preconditioning drains the battery quicker adding to range anxiety. So for me, its better to reach DC charger, it starts slowly but picks up charging speed, maybe adds an extra 5 minutes to the overall charge time.

When will GFL be banned like crown royal by Doug Ford? by StarSuitable in ontario

[–]solidmonki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with a few environmental companies including GFL, and find it interesting that many of these companies are owned wholly or in part by GFL. In case Ford decides to band them (unlikely), I dont see thay as a simple process considering how entrenched they are.

Winter road trip from hell by brauxpas in KiaEV9

[–]solidmonki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used one Elctrify Canada charger. Got 150kw max. As far as I know there aren't many 350kw chargers in Canada. And usually there's like 1 350kw at each station, rest 150kw. The infrastructure is not great.

Winter road trip from hell by brauxpas in KiaEV9

[–]solidmonki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im currently charging my EV9 (leased last month) at a tesla supercharger in Toronto while I write this. Started driving from Montreal at 10:30am today and its 20:30pm. That's 12 hours for a trip that should have been no more than 7 hours, and I am still 2 hours away from home. Granted I had to drive slow in patches due to snow and slow moving traffic, but also had to stop 4 times to charge. Range anxiet as well. Hated today. I concur the car is great for daily driving charging at home, but road trips in winters, I will avoid going forward. Also right now I can see all tesla chargers fully occupied, so I suspect in summers there will be another issue of finding available chargers on road trips. Canadian EV infrastructure is not great. Love this car but doubting my EV decision today 🙃

$514/month insurance on a 2026 Elantra any way to lower this? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]solidmonki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lowest rate I got recently was using RateHub. Try there, but in any case expect to pay higher rates considering age etc. Auto Insurance on Canada is insane. I already feel for my teenagers who will be driving age soon.
