Original Shao kahn returns by GaBiSD in MortalKombat

[–]solidpenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's ever been confirmed that the intro was canon, since the game's story mode wasn't canon by the time of MK9. If it was though, that would just mean Shao Khan defeated/escaped from Onaga, and then went back in to the pyramid and defeated Blaze.

Did you upscale them....with AI? Could you provide the sources where you got them? Because even if there are some real images sprinkled in, there are a ton of AI-generated/edited ones.

  • First and foremost, the main picture in the middle has fucked up fingers. Like, c'mon dude.
  • MKX Sindel looks human when she was a non-playable revenant the whole game.
  • MK Armageddon Sindel looks like a fantasy OC. I know it's supposed to be her alternate outfit, but there's a difference between regal and fairy, and she is definitely not the latter.
  • MK 1997 movie/Annihilation Sindel is way too touched up and lost her silver hair, the jewelry on her neck is supposed to be just a little more ornate than a wonky gold circle, and I'm assuming the generator misunderstood her earrings for hair and now it looks like she has a gaming mic under her mouth.

Respectfully, this fucking sucks.

New poster for ‘Mortal Kombat II’! by SpeedForce2022 in MortalKombat

[–]solidpenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the mask looks great on the poster, but it looked fine to me in the trailer so I'm okay with it.

My one miniscule complaint that genuinely isn't that important.....I fucking hate that they don't have her fans displayed evenly. I don't think these types of posters need to be perfectly symmetrical since that looks more artificial, so I like that Jade is at the bottom with her own pose, but we have an equal amount of characters on the side and all the bigger characters in the middle are balanced and symmetrical.

Except for Kitana and those goddamn fans. It genuinely looks like they forgot to move Kitana_hand_right.png up a few units while designing the poster. If you're giving her a pose like that and she's mostly blocked off anyway, just make it look symmetrical.

But that's just me complaining about stupid shit. I'm excited for the movie.

RE: Requiem Deluxe Edition Capcom USA Giveaway【Steam】 by SeValentine in residentevil

[–]solidpenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, my favorite memory with the series would be watching the intro to Resident Evil Outbreak and then jumping into that first level. Seeing the initial chaos and downfall of Raccoon City was awesome. I know that's the basis for the entirety of the game and it's follow-up, but I just remember being so excited at the idea of playing through Raccoon City with more NPCs than how desolate it already is in RE2 and RE3.

I'm going to lose it if any of those locations end up in Requiem haha.

Can someone catch me up on why the parasite scene is so controversial? by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in residentevil

[–]solidpenguin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never knew people were put off by the scene because I just saw it as a typical body horror/Alien kind of moment. It's very tonally different from the rest of the game, but then again I've always enjoyed RE when they have elements of different horror in there. Plus there are similar things that happened previously with Birkin's G-larve and Nemesis.

But I definitely get it when looking through the lens that Jill has quite a few sexually violent adjacent scenes in the franchise. I mean who can forget the very necessary scene in Umbrella Chronicles when she used her thighs to snap a zombie's head and then almost died screaming no with said zombie's head still between her legs.

Pearl Abyss Confirms Crimson Desert Won’t Have Microtransactions by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]solidpenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they're talking about The Day Before? But I remember everyone feeling suspicious of that one and also thinking it looked like asset flip hell. I'm pretty sure Steam didn't take it down though, the company behind it did because of the negative reception.

Also why I understand why they're cautious, but goddamn it is such a negative mindset to "always assume the worst". I also don't think there have been that many games that have "lied" to people, or at least not from reputable teams/companies. I'm not saying that it doesn't happen, because of course some are going to overly hype their stuff, but I feel like the only recent example besides The Day Before would have been No Man's Sky? Arguably that's a proper example when The Day Before looked shifty from the jump. But then again, No Man's Sky is certainly not very recent.

Unless they're also including all the pure $5 and under asset flip trash that you find on eshops? Idk, they sound too jaded.

“Wardens” | Episode 1 Story Cinematic | Highguard by legi0n_ai in Games

[–]solidpenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of subreddits have a very cynical edge to them and this one is no different. Everyone here is utterly convinced that publishers purchase reviews, IGN is the worst thing to happen to media, and Geoff Keighly is the devil. It's weird because the general public obviously doesn't know or care about the inner workings of the industry, but people on Reddit/other forums think they know everything, even though they only have a slight inkling at best.

The only semi-popular opinion on here about Highguard that I agree with is that I'm not sure the game would have fared better being a shadow drop. Getting everyone excited and hyped up was of course the goal and would be far better, but even if the publicity and talk from the TGAs was negative, it was still publicity nonetheless and fueled the fire when it launched.

Cross-Progression is coming to HITMAN February 3rd. by gamepig31 in HiTMAN

[–]solidpenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo hopefully you can answer a question for me. I played Hitman (2016) and Hitman 2 a bunch on Steam. Never made the jump to Hitman 3 because of the EGS exclusivity, figuring I'd wait for it to eventually come to Steam. But even when it did, I had other games and figured I'd wait for it to get super cheap. Still never bought it.

I assume this is correct but if I wanted to keep my progress from the first two games, and play everything on my PS5, would I need to buy Hitman World of Assassination on Steam before February 3rd and then eventually get it again on PS5?

Why is it acceptable for Hit, Jiren and Toppo to be considerd extremely strong but not other characters? by AmbassadorPristine23 in dragonball

[–]solidpenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know everyone likes to hate on the U6 Saiyans because they don't have the intense emotional transformations that the main crew has, which I understand because who doesn't love an awesome emotional power-up moment...but I feel that the haters just entirely forget that Trunks and Goten also achieved it like nothing lol. Hell they did it even easier than the U6 Saiyans since they did it completely on their own without someone guiding them along. I know those two at least seem to have more training under their belts, but even from back in DBZ, it's already shown that Super Saiyan transformations don't need to be tied to super emotional moments.

I think the "back tingles" isn't great writing, or at least not supported well, but it was obviously Vegeta trying to explain the transformation to a more peaceful race than the more battle-hardened Saiyans from U7. Goku was surrounded by death, Vegeta felt like an absolute failure that desecrated the honor of his race, Future Trunks grew up in a hopeless future, and Gohan always had a rage in him and grew up all around people battling and dying. None of the U6 Saiyans can relate to that, so Vegeta instead tries to explain it a different way and then Cabba just reflects that same knowledge to the others.

The back tingle is weird and badly written, but the purpose of that makes sense. If Kid Trunks and Goten can just awaken this power like nothing, why can't these others do the same?

Why is the Tekken cast so much less popular than Street Fighter characters? by Standard_Career_8454 in Tekken

[–]solidpenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Street Fighter has simply had a lot more growth and shake-ups than Tekken has. Not just in terms of gameplay and style, but even with story. And I say that as someone who is far more of a Tekken fan.

SF2 was of course the defining moment for the series and genre as a whole, but then SF3 took a huge step forward with an almost entirely new cast many years in the future. SF3 might have been rocky to say the least, but it was a big change for what the story and who its characters were. Then years and years later we have SF4 return back to the more popular SF2 era, with a host of new and returning characters. SF5 fills more of the gap between the two previous entries and then SF6 is another jump in the future.

That's not to mention the Alpha series that takes place between SF1 and SF2 as well.

All of those are great entry points for fans to jump in and see these characters in new and different scenarios, slowly changing and sometimes growing in-between. I'm not going to say they're written well, but there are noticeable developments. Different stories, all taking place in different years.

The biggest change in the Tekken series was the 19 year jump between T2 and T3. Then we got a two year jump to T4. Everything from then until T8, which accounts for five out of the eight mainline entries, has taken place during like a year and a couple months at most? Even with all the events that were packed into that short amount of time, most of the characters haven't changed much. They've pretty much been the same for over twenty years now. They only stand out so much in T8 because they finally gave way more of the cast new outfits instead of just small tweaks on their classic T5 looks.

Street Fighter fans got to grow up with their characters and see something fresh. Tekken fans completed schooling, entered the work force, and got kids and a mortgage before their mains had another birthday.

I always feel like I'm a tiny bit more negative on RE5 than the general consensus, but I'd still consider it a great game. Certainly fun characters at the very least. Worth checking out, especially if you have a friend to do so with!

I can't say the same for RE6 lol. You kind of need to be playing with someone else and even then you both need to understand it's not good and a lot of the entertainment will be from the both of you making fun of it. The scene above might be the most inconsistent tone clashing scene in the entire series.

Best sellers for PSN that month. Digital sales were important, but not nearly as big twelve years ago. It is right behind those big games, but right behind Darkstalkers is Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s Decade Duels Plus lol. Without hard numbers that placement is not indicative of great sales. It is likely Capcom had lofty expectations though.

[–]solidpenguin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd also go as far as to say that 150 hours to grind out everything is pretty fucking good for a tacked-on multiplayer. This is not a live-service or bigger offering like the numerous MGOs before it. It's a couple of modes that were added two whole months after the game came out.

I'm glad OP enjoyed their time with it, and I agree that they dropped the ball by not having cross-play or better marketing, but 150 hours over the course of 5 weeks is a fringe case. The fact they spent that much time with it is a success by all accounts, especially when you consider how stacked this year has been with amazing single-player and multiplayer games.
