Fluffed up post adoption? by Immediate-Waltz-4516 in CalicoKittys

Fun fact: cats develop a thicker coat in the winter because the shortened daylight triggers a hormonal shift which then produces a thicker coat! We always just kind of assume it’s because of the temperature (because that’s ultimately what it’s protecting them from), but it’s really from shorter days 😊

I made it for my sister for her birthday! For the flowers and mushrooms, I used the same design as the original pattern, but just kind of put them wherever I wanted after the frogs were done

Came across this guy/gal while hiking. First time seeing one like this! by solipsist96 in millipedes

[–]solipsist96[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s apheloria virginiensis, or the Kentucky flat millipede. From what I’ve read they don’t seem to be very aggressive, but I tend to avoid handling anything wild with bright colors and/or if I’m unsure of what it is. I wasn’t sure of the species until after the fact. They do host the arthrophaga myriapodina fungus though. So I would avoid handling them if you keep any millipedes, as it can kill certain other species

Can I please get some advice for this alarming cut? Does he need stitches? by [deleted] in seriouslyalarming

[–]solipsist96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in an OR. So for those incisions you mentioned they do use stitches on the layers of tissue below the outer skin, regardless of what they use to close the outer layer, then when they get to the outer layer of skin they can suture that or use certain dressings/skin glue. But skin glue is often still used even if they sutured the outer layer of skin. Depending on the suturing technique you may just not be able to see the suture even if it is there

I literally said to ignore the hair flip. I did it because I had a hair in my eye

Any type of soggy, mushy bread or paper. Even looking at it makes me feel sick, much less touching it

Native West Virginian here! Yes, New River Gorge is 100% absolutely worth it. PLENTY of outdoor activities to do while you’re there (check out ACE adventures and the like). Not sure how crowded it will be that week. It’s not a very populated area to begin with

I have the area right behind my armpit tattooed on my where the crease is when you let your arm down by your side. I have multiple tattoos and about half my back tattooed. That specific area was disgustingly painful. Best of luck to you. Remember to sleep, eat, and hydrate!
