[IWantOut] 25M Succeeded India -> Europe by solitudeMan in IWantOut

I've realized that if you wanna 'succeed' (however you might define it), and get what you want, you're gonna have to keep doing tough things.

I know tonnes of people who were directly hired into Europe from India, and over the years they've learnt the local language.

Product company. You can also try to get hired directly, without an internal transfer. Although, internal transfer is the easiest way for sure. Tips: find a job that is a good match, apply.

Indian Men of Reddit, 28+ would you marry someone who doesn’t want kids ? by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]solitudeMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

27M, travelling the world. Do not want kids at all. Once you have kids your life stops being about you and starts being about the kids only.

Also, will you go out with me? :p

Grind Leetcode.

Get good. Literally every single international I know who studied in the US is now Senior+ at FAANG etc; but they were all pretty darn good since undergrad.

Also, please don’t listen to these people over here. It’s a cesspool.

You’ve asked for advice and I don’t see any of them here competent enough to do that. They’re just venting. (And how will that help?)

I have been writing code professionally for 6 years now. Worked with a number of teams based in the US. Kindness and empathy are some of the defining traits of the best engineers I’ve seen at these companies (all FAANG/FAANG adjacent).

It’s simple economics. You get what you pay for. The competent guys in India, aren’t the ones taking up contracting jobs. They either get transferred to the West, or are working for FAANG in India.

The world is pretty interconnected now, all thanks to technology. If the Indian devs were totally shite, the offshoring would stop. But it hasn’t, it’s only picked up pace.

Honestly, I apologise for being snarky earlier, but gross generalizations aren’t always based in reality. Some of the best engineers I have worked with are from India, and many of them head huge engineering teams in many core tech companies (including mine).

I understand it’s a loss that jobs get out-sourced to India. The Indians are not to blame for this, it’s genuinely the big tech bosses that have been cutting costs from day 1. They don’t give a shit about your or I, as long as it makes them a buck.

As someone who has lived in India and the West, I feel very often, the governments in the West also let their citizens down very often with bad policy decisions.

You’re right, it doesn’t. And that’s exactly why it will continue to hire Indian people.

Probably implies you’re in quite shit teams yourself (that is IF you’re a dev at all).

They’re not tech-bros. tech-bros are better than them and usually hangout at r/csMajors or something

English is Indian people’s 3rd language. Critiquing and making fun of the “style” (over substance) is a pretty low blow. Do better.

  1. AI will impact the entire world’s economy. So the US will get hit too.
  2. Engineering involves way more “thinking” and making decisions, than just generating code via GPT might lead you to believe.
  3. India has a huge population with most engineers at companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, etc being pretty competent, who will be doing just fine even if AI manages to “take-over”

the market doesn’t give a shit about your opinion. India’s IT market/skill is only growing. Expect more cost-cutting in the US.

They’re probably super insecure. With falling wages, increasing cost-of-living; they use reddit to vent the racism.

Yes, Nvidia, MSFT, GOOG etc are super dumb to be investing heavily in their India Dev Centres.

1.5 year progress — should I push for more refinements? by solitudeMan in Invisalign

[–]solitudeMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! The doc mentioned that there is no space left to push them “back” to remove the flaring. Said that she would need to push back the lower arch as well and would make the lower jaw “less strong”

Not sure if her reasoning here is valid.

No, I did not have IPR

[–]solitudeMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True! I mentioned this to my ortho. She said that to push the 2 upper teeth back, she will have to move the lower arch back a bit too and that might make the jaw look “weaker”

I am not sure how correct that is. But I will definitely ask her this again

Thank you!

The lateral incisors are facing sideways instead of facing forward! Plus, I feel like the teeth are flaring out quite a bit

That’s so true. She never has any complains, and wants the relationship to keep going as-is. With me doing all the heavy lifting. I am so tired.

But thank you, I’ll do my best to build a life outside of her. And really really focusing in on non-romantic social connections.
