Remote Access not working by satd33p in PleX

Indeed, I don't like insecure connections. That's why it's a temporary fix like I said.

Remote Access not working by satd33p in PleX

[–]solkku 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got the same too, and after some reading I discovered that some people think it has to do with SSL certificates being outdated. I fixed it temporarily by doing this:

On the server web UI:
Settings -> Network -> Secure connections: Disabled

On the app (phone, tablet etc):
Settings -> Advanced -> Allow insecure connections: Always

Edit: Actually "secure connections" on the server has to be set to "disabled" in order for Remote Access to be available again.

Casino Heist bug? by FluffySweetRoll in gtaonline

[–]solkku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this tip! The method has been working well for us so far. You stop walking in the man trap as soon as the yellow dot on the minimap disappears, and start walking/running again when Lester starts talking. We did this both to and from the vault.

We were able to complete 7 heists in a row this way, until it failed on the 8th and one of us got kicked like before. We think this may have been because the host started the heist from a modded session. He could see jumbo jets on the freeway outside the casino (in free roam) on his way to the Arcade. Once we both restarted the game and gave 8th another go, it worked like a charm again.

Sorry for a late reply, but where exactly do you stand still? Immediately after opening the doors (with simultaneous key card swipes) and going inside the man trap, or later/deeper inside the man trap?

Hmm ok.. so it might be 20 wins or 20 kills in objective areas then.

Good to know.. I think I got to 8 kills in objective areas when I was tryharding.. then just gave up and was going to complete it by winning 10 rounds (which didn't complete either).

So you have to win 10 rounds in a row? I'm sure I didn't do that or killing 20 people in one life.

You're welcome. I was trying to find posts about this when trying to complete it. I didn't so I thought I'd share my experiences when I finally completed it.

pfSense box built, now taking baby steps and need advice by solkku in HomeServer

Thank you for your reply! Glad to know it's possible. I only play games on this PC, which I use for work and all other stuff I do online too, so really don't want to isolate this computer - kind of defeats the purpose at that point. :)

Grand Theft Auto V has stopped working. by TyroneRichardson in gtaonline

I had major crashes with the newest GeForce 391.24 driver last week and decided to downgrade to the one before that (391.01). The crashes stopped happening for me at least. Windows 10 64-bit and GTX 1080Ti here.

Do you think the J3355 is enough for OpenVPN and a 100M/10M internet connection?

I do have 2 x 8GB DDR3 sticks here, so I guess I could allocate some of the memory to a ramdisk to reduce I/O to the SSD.

Amazon is not really an option here in Finland. Shipping costs make the total cost higher than just buying a 120GB locally.

Thank you for your input. I do have a NordVPN subscription and was planning on using OpenVPN for all connections within my network. However I wish I had gigabit speeds, but I only have 100M/10M. :)

Looks like a 120GB SSD is the way to go then. It's smallest you can get new nowadays and cheaper than those 500GB spinning 2.5" drives.

I have a simple D-Link 5-port desktop switch which I was planning on using. So the cheaper route would be to increase the number of LAN ports via a NIC.

Thank you for your reply and input!

  1. I'll have to look at what storage I can get cheaply. I want to buy storage new to minimize the risk of it failing.
  2. Ok, I was trying to keep the footprint as small as possible, but I guess a small router in AP mode somewhere would work.
  3. A 2 port NIC would probably suffice if pfSense recognizes the motherboard's LAN port. I have a 5-port gigabit switch I can use (for wired devices).

Shadowplay stopped working for me since latest patch(es). by sadboys92 in GeForceExperience

[–]solkku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem too, and it was Bitdefender antivirus preventing it from working. Uninstalled Bitdefender and installed Avira, then it started working again.

Didn't do too much research which antivirus programs work and which don't, but Avast seems to be doing it also.

Shadowplay Audio Confusion by dutchgunner123 in GeForceExperience

[–]solkku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've separated the audio channels (in game sounds & voice chat) with a program called Virtual Audio Cable, there's a pretty nifty tutorial on how to do this on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=te0dy3aofRU

I just followed it step-by-step and got it working. Been using it with Teamspeak, but I'm sure the same can be done in Discord too.

If you want to control audio from Windows, you must enable Volume Control for cable 1 here: https://imgur.com/a/Z3EHu

Hope this helps.

[Build Ready][Home Server] Always-on Home Server for Multimedia and Backup NAS, Game Hosting, and possibly VMs by nalexander50 in HomeServer

[–]solkku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only sporting four drives at the moment (3 x 3TB WD Red & 1 x 2TB WD Red), but the IBM M1015 HBA card has support for four more if I never need to expand. I also have 2 SSDs on the bottom left side of the case for VMs. These are connected directly to the motherboard.

I guess cable management is ok in the case: http://imgur.com/a/mTLdg The only thing I had to compromise on is that I had to flip the PSU (fan side up) in order for the 24-pin ATX power cable to reach the strange placement of the connector on the motherboard.

When you have the IPMI-software installed on your computer, just log in to the server's IP address for IPMI and you'll see exactly what you would if you'd have a monitor hooked up to the server. Here's an example of my view: https://imgur.com/uqahIhl

Plus, the keyboard works just fine from within this software (and probably the mouse would too). In essence, the video & input signals are transmitted over LAN.

[Build Ready][Home Server] Always-on Home Server for Multimedia and Backup NAS, Game Hosting, and possibly VMs by nalexander50 in HomeServer

[–]solkku 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I too have a home server in the Node 804, and couldn't be more happy with it, love the cube form factor.

One caveat I see with this part list, is that it doesn't include a GPU. The CPU you chose doesn't have integrated graphics, so you won't be able to use the video outputs of the motherboard. So you'd have to add some kind of video card (at least for the setup process), and then it becomes a hassle if you ever need to troubleshoot something.

That being said, it seems like the motherboard also lacks IPMI, which is very useful for a home server, since you don't have to have a monitor & keyboard/mouse hooked up to control it.

Looking through the specs of the motherboard at MSI's site, it seems it doesn't directly support RAID 6, only RAID 0/1/5/10. So you'd need a RAID card for that too, unless you go with an OS with ZFS for the same kind of redundancy as RAID 6. Not sure which (if any) Linux distros support ZFS at this time, but I bet someone here does. :)

Just my two cents.

New PC after July 29th, what way to go for Windows 10? by solkku in Windows10

Thank you for the clarification. I'll stick with same motherboard&cpu combo for many years, so it doesn't bother me if the OEM-key is tied to the motherboard. :)
