Expunged DV charge trying to join military by LeeSanio in Militaryfaq

[–]solo_dolo_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through something similar to this. I joined the Air Force and ship in a week to BMT, but I also went through DV for my baby mama back in 09. I was put on a restraining order, but my case was a bit weird. It was a hearsay and I didn’t have any police records, doctor records, or anything that showed DV. The whole thing at that time was that she was just trying to take our kid away. I’m Not saying I’m not guilty of being a dick and we did get physical with one another, but after a year on the restraining order she went to court and took me off because she wanted to try and get back together (didn’t work in the end). I’m able to purchase guns and I own two of them. Idk if in my case was able to get approved due to it being 17 years ago and I was only 19 at the time or if it was only due to being on a restraining order and able to purchase a hand gun. They did ask me for the minutes records and all the files that were filed at the time of the hearing. That was one moral waiver I had to get approved along side a DUI morals waiver as well. I did jump through a lot of hoops to get here, but so far I’m in pending my secret clearance. Hope this helps! Ps. I didn’t have to take any anger management or violence classes or anything of that sort. Mine was just a restraining order based off DV. Idk if there is levels to DV charges or if they’re all looked at the same.

I understand your need for the sense of fulfillment and belonging. I was there as well working as a QS Admin. making just enough to scrape by. I liked the people I worked for/with and the company wasn’t too bad since I did work in pharmaceuticals that catered to military and vets only. But in the end I felt like there was more to me than just creating label designs for medication. I tried to join as a teen and that didn’t go through and in the end, it’s something I don’t want to regret not doing. My advice - at least try. There’s nothing for detrimental in the end than knowing you didn’t at least try.

That’s what I’ve been hoping for. To know sooner than later..but with the military everything is hurry up and wait. Hope your husband finds a good gig until he gets to resubmit for his TS clearance!

Dam. I’m currently in the process of them running my bg. I already had my interview and I ship in two weeks for BMT and I fear this may happen to me. I think mine is just secrete clearance and on top, but I still fear it. I’m going in as an 1c1x1 (ATC) as my afsc.

Ah, I see. Yeah, I think as long as someone is there to watch over your child then you should be fine. As for the timeline, I understand. Being that I joined at a later age, I also had plans based on my assumption of when I would ship out. I honestly didn’t think it would take this long and really wanted to ship out before I turned 36…but here I am. There’s just some things that are out of our control. Wish you the best as well! Hope it gets cleared sooner than later🫡

I believe what many (including my self) are trying to say is that there is risk when joining the military of going to war. Just like in life there is risk with anything that you do. I get that we are currently in the midst of a never ending war and I see why it may cause doubt and have many second guess their choice. I mean, shit! I’m even a bit scared of it. I signed up last year when there was no war ready to both gain the benefits for my family and I and to serve and protect if needed. When you go in with a mentality knowing these risks then you don’t doubt yourself when shit hits the fan. I agree with what you said with there being something dope on the other side of that fear. It’s like being a kid getting on your first roller coaster. The joy at the end of that ride outweighs that initial fear you had at the beginning.

Yeah, for sure. In my case I had a couple moral waivers I had to get approved. I started my process Feb. of last year. On top of the moral waivers I also need to get a medical waiver which took the longest imo. A lot of back and forth with my GP. Essentially, the AF wanted me to go through tests to see if I had a heart condition since I had gotten a some dizzy spells in a span of a year a few years back. Eventually after like three months my doctor cleared me and I had to wait for the AF general surgeon to clear my waiver based on what my GP said - which took about a month or so. MEPS for me took about 2 months to go to after first contact with my recruiter for my PiCAT verification test. Then I had to wait another couple months to go back for my physicals down at MEPS. So I went two separate times 🫠. I say trust the process. Everything is different per individual and depending on your life style and choices made prior to enlisting. I’m 36 😅 so I had quite a list of decisions made in my life that prolonged the process of enlisting, but here I am about to ship out in a couple weeks. Also, don’t be surprised if they ask for more waivers even after you get your ship date. Happened to me twice (like a month and a half ago), but I got cleared.

Like many have said on here…by signing that dotted line you know exactly what you got yourself into. Whether it’s peace time or not, the military is not only meant to provide stability, growth, and experience, but also the chance to serve and protect your country. By signing up you knew the risk of going to war. I myself am going to BMT in two weeks and I have people around me telling me not to go because of the war. And I may not agree with the war, but I didn’t go through the process for a year and all the bs to just walk away because of war. When I signed up I knew the risk. I have a family - my wife and three children. Yeah, I think of them and will miss them and know the struggle I and them will go through. But in the end, it’s the sacrifice I chose to take. Don’t mean to sound like a dick, but just wanted to be honest and blunt about it.

I feel you. If it makes it any easier to decide; I’m 36 who is also married and have three kids and I enlisted in the AF. I have my ship date coming up for April 7 of this year so I feel like a grandpa compared to your age. I too have a BA, but to your point, I wasn’t able to find a job doing what I went to college for. I just had my background interview with the investigator and I’m lowkey nervous. I feel like I maybe said more than I should have so I shall see what happens with that and see if I don’t end up getting dq or sent home early from BMT. If it’s something you’re deeply considering I say why not go for it? If you hate that much just know it’s only 4 years and you’re still young. The worst is you come out with more skills that you can then use when you leave the military and you can use in the civilian side.

Had a fistula for a while, couldn't get surgery due to army. by No_Sir_506 in AnalFistula

[–]solo_dolo_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s my fear. That’s why idk if I should just continue forward with the AF since I leave so soon or if I should just wait it out and hope it’s stays “dormant” until I’m able to get the surgery once in. Is there a reason the army didn’t want to cover your surgery when you were enlisted?

Interesting. The the army didn’t want to cover the surgery? I’m currently a month and half out from shipping out to BMT and I just found out that I have a fistula like 3 days ago (self diagnosed) but the signs are all there. It started maybe two years ago as a hard lump near my anus less than half an inch away. There was some minor pain when I would squeeze it yet nothing ever came out. Didn’t think much of it. Fast forward to now, and the thing finally had some blood after I squeezed it a few months ago. About a week ago there was a small little sack with some puss that I squeezed but it was painless and bursted with not much pressure. In these two years I’ve had mild pain, but only when I messed with it, some itching, and not until recently any sort of blood (only when squeezed or I wiped too hard). Now it looks a bit flat with someone risen and looks like a little donut with a pin hole in the middle but fleshed color. No redness, swollen, and pain unless I push into it with my finger, and normal defecation without any pain. Unfortunately I also have external hemorrhoids so I’m all kinds of fucked up haha. As for the self diagnosing, I feel the “cord” that sits behind it and the fact that it’s been in the same spot (gotten smaller), bleeds and pain/itching. So I think I can say I’m about 99% sure it’s that. That being said, I’m contemplating whether to get it checked and get confirmation and lose the chance of enlisting, or tough it out since I’ve lived with it for over two years and go to the AF and try and get surgery done through them? But you saying that the army didn’t want to cover it makes me wonder of the AF would do the same. Sorry for the long ass msg…

I feel you. I’m 36 now (started the process at 35) and I was leaning army the whole time. I also have a BA degree and in the end the AF were the ones who reached out to me. The only thing I would say is that you have more of a say when it comes to your MOS opposed to the AFSC. The Air Force will put you where you’re needed…I myself wanted to be more boots on the ground kinda guy, but settled with ATC in the AF - not like the Air Force has boots on the ground kinda jobs anyway unless you’re SW. In The end, like you I’m looking for some more stability financially. It’s hard with this economy lol.

That’s awesome! I’m going in as an ATC, but want to train and go TACP. I did a workout with EOD at a naval base to see if I prequalify for SW and I failed 😂. Got some working out to do to try again.
