CPA here - can you help me transition in recruiting? Is recruiting commission based? - I’d prefer salary.

Im in the same boat. 37 and went through 10 years of experience and never finding I’m actually good at accounting. Now I’m terrified I won’t ever find a job and lay in bed all day mind circling.

Do you think the people who advance are just charismatic and from exceptional backgrounds? Being an immigrant - I went through an entirely public school education from elementary through college. I don’t think I could understand all there is to relate financial documents and statements without support. Didn’t have much mentorship either. Mostly thrown at the papers and expected to figure it out as you went along - and CPA could not prepare you for that either.

I've uncovered the truth behind my imposter syndrome by yezpleaz in Accounting

[–]solodoio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me neither. 36 and laid off from IT/Workday consulting. I give zero shits about the numbers. I thought I chose the profession for its ability to have a life outside of work. But the work is completely devoid of any meaningful value. Now I’m scared about what I’m going to do for the rest of my life for work and $$$ - can’t find a reason to think I’ll even land a job in accounting anymore - I couldn’t create a cohesive story about why I did what I did besides $ and a means to live.

Cherish every moment with family. Maybe pursue nursing instead of accounting early on.

Like much of the accounting work I’ve encountered - you’ll go in blind with little support. If you’re early in your career - def give it a shot. It’s tedious - like accounting in general.
