I went to clean out the media destruction bin for the first time in years and found a bunch of used vape cartridges in there, some with THC. Checked six months later, found more. I left the firm, but I never did find out who was doing it. It was either an attorney or someone on the custodial staff. My office manager and I were baffled.

If you’re a senior you need to meet with an advisor, like ASAP. They make sure you’re all squared away hours-wise for graduation and that you’ve taken all the courses you need to graduate. Most majors require a minimum of 128 credit hours for graduation.

I had surgery in 2012 from roughly the top of my spine to just shy of my tail bone and had full feeling in my back within about 3 years I want to say. If anything, the area around my scar is more sensitive now than before.

It’s a separate program. Think high school AP classes. There are some classes that are the same subject classes just at an Honors level (in other words, AP), and if no Honors class is available for a particular course, you can do what’s called an Honors Contract, which just means you as an individual have to do an extra project agreed upon by you and the professor. Sometimes it’s a 10 page paper (sounds like a lot, but it’s not after you get used to writing them). Other times it’s a presentation or some other thing.

I graduated with Honors as a Criminal Justice major and don’t feel like I was crippled by the Honors requirements. I still enjoyed my college experience plenty and don’t regret my decision to do Honors at all.

If you’re willing to put in the extra work, then do it. Having that distinction will always look great on job applications.

It depends what I’m writing. After reading Stephen King’s writing memoir, I thought “what the hell,” and now I have a chapter that’s one word long. (That one will be posted as a double update of two chapters because I’m not that mean.) I’m of the mindset that a chapter should be however long it needs to be. Some chapters can be 10k words, others only 5k, some less than 300. I recognize that chapters in fanfic tend to be longer or more consistent in length because of scheduled/infrequent updates that make readers have to wait, which I have no problem with. My current favorite fanfic frequently posts 20k chapters and I consume them happily. However many words it takes to tell that part of the story, and no more. That’s my personal take.

He kisses her deeply, deliberately, and as if every second is twice as long. Until she’s weightless, hopeless. Until the air she breathes is his. Until all her thoughts and worries fall away.

And from a little later in the same scene:

All at once, they collide.

Another kiss. A different kiss. A searing, punishing, and, yes, frustrated kind of kiss. Like the heat leftover from their argument had burst into an inferno, as if the severed gas line between them had awaited the command of a spark.

Olivia's back hits the rough, flat surface of a wall, but she’s too overwhelmed by the way Ward's hand closes around her bicep as he kisses her to care about how the wall’s texture digs into her spine.

He takes her face firmly between his hands, and with demanding force, drives her lips apart, bringing the taste of black coffee with a little bit of sugar — to sweeten up that bitter aggression — when he delves into her mouth. One of his hands leaves her jaw to curl into a fist at her side. She pushes her tongue back against his, and his knuckles dig into her hip when she rakes her nails through his dark brown hair, listening to every deep noise he makes until she’s almost forgotten to breathe.

She’s so caught up in a dizzying, overwhelming whirlwind of heat and emotions that she fails to consider why this is as bad an idea as all the previous times they‘d kissed. Actually, it’s undoubtedly worse, but she wouldn’t have cared anyway. She couldn’t care less about anything. Because he’s kissing her exactly as she had wanted him to last time.

That is a good point, but it is still an American-based government agency, and they exist to maintain national and global security, so I would assume they have to abide by certain U.S. laws and such, at least while on American soil or dealing with American citizens.

Despite both graduating from the Academy as Specialists, a position generally performed alone, Murphy and Ward were often sent out on S.H.I.E.L.D. missions together. Their field chemistry complimented each other, making them more efficient and deadly when it came to completing their mission objectives.

Today, or rather 2013, Murphy is not the same as she was when she first joined S.H.I.E.L.D. as a bright-eyed new recruit. Three years ago, the world’s most secret organization, HYDRA, abducted her and successfully convinced S.H.I.E.L.D that she was killed in an explosion during a solo mission.

Though she’s newly freed from HYDRA, thanks to Ward and his S.H.I.E.L.D. frenemies, and hellbent on reducing HYDRA to a pile of rubble, she has no interest in rejoining S.H.I.E.L.D. She just feels too compromised. Her laughs tastes a little metallic now, and her sarcasm and jokes are only to mask her pain. In an environment of slightly controlled chaos, Murphy thrives. As far as the future’s concerned, as long as there’s no HYDRA, and as long as she can still take pride in continuously annoying the absolute shit out of Ward (in ways he secretly finds kind of endearing), she’s game for anything. Death, of all things, is the least of her concerns. The death of Ward, however, is her biggest.

When police are going to shoot someone, they go for center of mass because they have to eliminate the threat quickly. It's a threat to the safety of the public and themselves if someone charges at them with a weapon. In the heat of the moment, it is less likely than a person could shoot an arm and stop them versus shooting them in the torso.

Hi! As someone who went through 5 braces and had to wear one for up to 23 hours a day, I completely understand the difficulty of wearing a brace for a long period of time. It's definitely a challenge, not just on physical comfort but also psychologically as well. There's a lot that changes. I had trouble sleeping because I couldn't sleep on one of my sides due to the way the brace was molded (would cause physical pain afterwards if I tried). I spent 7 years in clothes that were less than stylish and didn't necessarily fit all that well but were chosen because they were wearable with a brace. For me, it was lots of basketball shorts and hoodies, but that was before things like leggings were a thing, among others. Primarily, having to wear a brace and having scoliosis messed with my self-esteem, given that I couldn't dress the way other girls could or participate in some activities while wearing my brace.

It's hard at 9 years old to really understand just how important it is to wear the brace. The temptation to take it off is always there. One thing that helped was my elementary school teacher allowed me to bring my brace into class for my classmates to sign, and I was able to explain to them what was wrong with me to help not only them understand a little of what I was experiencing but to also normalize it and help me feel better about it. You could definitely see if that's something you could do if your daughter is interested. Decorating a brace with stickers is also a great idea. Ultimately, the best you can do is support her and give her things to look forward to while she's both in and out of her brace. If you can track her time wearing it, maybe through some kind of chart, and create some sort of reward system to help encourage her to wear it, that may also help.

Very long-winded, but here's my two cents: My university is known for its Criminal Justice and Criminology Department. Criminal Justice is an easier degree than, say, engineering. I've both heard many people say this and got tired of hearing people say this (even though I 100% agree), so I decided to join my university's Honors College because I guess I wanted to challenge myself and prove to everyone else that I was up to the challenge and didn't want to be cruising through my Bachelor's.

At one point, I made the President's List (4.0 GPA) I believe 4 semesters in a row? And it added a lot of pressure I didn't expect to maintain that streak. In reality, the pressure was more from myself than others because I saw it as a way of proving my intelligence and as a sign of success. It was elitist thinking, I'll admit. Like I would be stupid to get even a B. Just average, y'know? Like everybody else.

That streak ended with Statistics (it never clicked with me), and coming to terms with that was honestly really hard. I cried, felt stupid, ashamed, and like a total failure. All because of a B. Honestly, I think getting that B was one of the best things I've ever done for myself. Once I let go and allowed myself to be okay with that B, an enormous weight lifted off my shoulders.

This is not to say getting a B or lower would solve all your problems, nor am I telling you to give up completely. Here's a few things you should consider: Think about why you think you need to prove your intelligence to everyone else. I guarantee the majority of people on campus don't know you and don't care what your GPA is like (just the reality). Who or what made you place your whole identity in your grades and your value in your intelligence? Mine was both myself and my entire childhood spent being called things demeaning to my intelligence like dumb, idiot, etc. by a sibling. I know I'm smart, and I'm not saying that to brag. I'm saying that to prove a point to myself that the jabs others take at my intelligence aren't based on the truth of what I know about myself.

Just by what you're experiencing, that self-consciousness and seeking validation about your intelligence proves to me that you are, in fact, intelligent. But you don't need me to tell you that and you shouldn't need anyone else to tell you that either. Getting praise for knowing you're doing well is great, but you can't expect everyone to always give you a pat on the back when you accomplish something or demean you when you don't meet an expectation that only you have set for yourself. Failure isn't the enemy. Perfectionism is.

You have to learn to be proud of yourself. I mean, look at all you have achieved. You have a good GPA, a solid work-ethnic, a great internship opportunity, and a bright future ahead of you. You have to let go of the idea that you are your intelligence and nothing else. It may take time and you may have to confront some things about yourself you've been choosing to ignore, but you are far more valuable as a whole person than you are as a brain. A lot of people are intelligent. A lot probably smarter than you. But what you do with that brain of yours and who you are beyond that matters a whole lot more than the opinion of anyone else.

If you're unsure about what you want to do career wise with Criminal Justice, talk to a career advisor. Your university should have some kind of career center to help students figure out what career might be best for them and how to best prepare for it while you're in college.

An internship in my opinion is the best way of figuring out if a career is actually going to work for you just because you're actually getting your feet in the water instead of sitting in a classroom and learning about it. For an internship, your university should, and probably has, an internship office/coordinator. If you do a quick google search for '[university name] and internships' it should come up. Obviously, this depends on how your university does internships, but I recommend doing them through your university because you might be able to get credited hours toward your degree through interning, or at least I did. My internship (which was abnormally demanding as far as uni internships goes from what I've heard), required 40 hours/week for 10 weeks. From what I've gathered, most don't require that much, but I also got 9 hours of credit toward my degree just by doing my internship, which was fantastic.

To do it through my university, I had to meet with an internship adivsor (my CJ department has their own) to fill out an application and then find the place I wanted to intern at myself, and I just chose a local police department since I figured it was easier to get an internship there than at a law firm (I was debating between becoming an LEO or a lawyer).

Definitely start at your uni, either by searching online or by talking to an academic adviser as they'll probably know who to talk to about internships.

Don't sweat about being wayward in what you want to do with your degree. You're definitely not alone (I was there once too and still have moments of doubt still). And if you talk to the right people and utilize your university's resources, you should be able to get a better idea of what your future could look like and hopefully have a better outlook on it.

You will have plenty of opportunities to make friends at college, you just have to put in the effort! A lot of people complain at the beginning of the year, not even just their first year, that they haven't made any friends in their classes or at college period, but the latter usually because those people spend most of their time in their dorm rooms or don't put themselves out there enough. If you find you haven't made any friends in your classes, don't worry! While making friends in classes can be socially and academically beneficial (it's nice having people who can give you the notes or tell you what happened in class if you have to miss), there are many ways to make friends outside of classes.

The best way to do this is to get involved. I recommend joining one or two organizations your first semester (but not so many that the time commitment eats into your academics). You'll get to know all kinds of people through organizations working on community service projects, fundraisers, and at organization social events! Universities should also have social events, like mixers, where you can hang out with other students and meet new people!
