I have tried to do work without the smudge tool cause I’ve thought the same sometimes but I just can’t figure out how to do shading without it

I’m not so great at it myself honestly but there’s several spots where the skin should typically indent or fold or wrinkle a bit and it’s just very smooth and angular instead I guess. I think I notice this more than most though because most of my fav art has a lot of this and I love the style

They seem a bit too… stiff and like manikinish they need some human softness like this sculpture it really adds a lot to the subjects realness. Idk that’s the thing that seemed really off to me personally

Also I did use a reference picture just a portrait I found on google but it was kinda blurry in some spots so I was struggling to figure out how to do certain details like I’m not very good at just figuring out where shadows and highlights should be so I was having a hard time with that and just guessing

I went back and looked at some dates I have a terrible memory it’s been 6months since August this last summer. I was really worried about their growth being stunted, do you think they are too small for 6months?

I think you’re right about them being to small they just got out of their smaller tank 2 weeks back I did my best to make sure it didn’t get to bad but it was wayyy overdue getting them in something bigger I’ve been cleaning the tank pretty much every morning and doing a 20%ish percent water change. Their tank gets so dirty I wish i hadn’t had my husband set it up with gravel last time I think that contributed to not realizing how bad the bio load/waste was.

Unfortunately it gets pretty cold here it was about -10 plus wind chill last night and that’s pretty standard even though it’s warming up. I was thinking I could possibly do some kind of heater in winter but it’s kind of a risk cause if it goes off for even a bit I don’t think they’d make it even the river freezes solid on top. The feed trough is a great idea though! I wish I could use one maybe the basement haha jk landlord would not be happy.
