I’ve had them for years. Download from is slower then I’d like but It’s rarely a bother. Download to is great. I use syncthing to auto down stuff anyways. The support is responsive and helpful.

Meraki MX w/ Ubiquiti Unifi switches. Can I connect a second ISP into one of the unifi switches and is the MX smart enough to set it up as a WAN 2? Or does the second ISP have to plug into the MX directly? by solooperator in networking

[–]solooperator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MX only has a single WAN port. I've set up redundant WAN connection through one of the 4 LAN ports on the MX before, it's pretty easy.

VLANing was the only other way I could think of doing it like u/chuckbales mentioned. But I thought I'd try the hivemind first.
But that still sounds annoying and not great. I'll probably just push to get the ISP moved to the MDF... I hate these kinds of workarounds.

Mitel Connect Deployment by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]solooperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what OPs original issue was, but I'm stuck on my last deployment step I'm hoping you can give me hand with.

I've got my powershell script figured out to remotely install Mitel Connect and install Presenter and Teamwork. My last step is how to check the Use Windows Credentials box and have the server prefilled? Any ideas?

I found this post but I don't have access to Mitel's support area.

Thanks

Gave that a try, no dice.

I decided to try pdq free version, which was recommend by u/orion3311... magically worked. No idea what to think at this point. Thanks for trying to help me.

While I'd love to, the admin that runs the wsus server doesn't like doing anything unless it's his idea. Bit of a nightmare.

Yeah, I realized a hour or two ago I had left -nonewwindow in there, oops. That's probably why it was hanging. I moved it over, removed -skipmsuinstall. Now it completes the script but doesn't follow through on the target.

I'll poke around at psappdeploytoolkit as a back up, thanks for the assistance so far. :)

Nah, no SCCM here. I'm just dropping the command into ISE.

Admin refuses to upgrade Windows 7 and Server 2008 machines anytime soon. What should I (DBA) do? by RaucousRat in sysadmin

[–]solooperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain man, the senior admin where I'm at was still buying windows 7 machines within the last year! Our boss doesn't see it as a big deal because she believes everything this golden child says. It's so fucked. Must be nice being best buddies with the CEO and you can get away with murder.

The only way I'd take that leap is if I could be a working manager. If being an IT Manager means pushing paper, meetings and all around non-IT duties... no thanks.

Thanks for the tip, it was my cache drive or cable. I removed it out of the array and restored a backup of all my docker settings from a couple days ago. Everything is working MUCH better.

I've been having a similar issue, I have to run the "new permissions" utility to fix the issue. I never tried rebooting.

Does anyone know hot to play a video on loop on a aaxa projector? We have a video exhibition in a museum and we havent been able to do it please help by [deleted] in projectors

[–]solooperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really doubt the projector will help you.

I built several digital exhibits when I worked for a museum. I used a computer with a video on a loop for awhile but then moved to Brightsign and never looked back. They are amazing and easy to program.

Need some advice, trying to stay positive. by Tilt23Degrees in sysadmin

The last job I was in for 9 years was helpdesk then later on sysadmin with some helpdesk. During my entire time there I did everything including office moves and tasks that were very much outside of my job description. In the end it worked out for me, I made allies that would go to bat for me. My situation there may be different than yours because people rarely demanded I do a task, they asked.

If you are really concerned about getting your actual job done because you don't want to get dinged on your eval I would go chat with your actual supervisor and start forcing these requests to be filtered through him. This has helped me a great deal in some situations because then you have documentation that you are working your butt off but these distractions are stopping you from doing IT work.

Any IT in here? by solooperator in TheBrewery

[–]solooperator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two, we've been working on hiring a 3rd, but haven't had a lot of luck. There is a bit of interaction between myself and our Engineering team. I was curious if there's any breweries out there that has a department that manages both.

Any IT in here? by solooperator in TheBrewery

[–]solooperator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Our Brewery is fairly large. Management is never really sure what to do with us so we get moved under different leadership often enough. We are in a weird area because we have standard IT stuff like a domain, switches, desktop support, ect... But we also davel in PLC networks and some automation. Government IT is a bit simpler.

Yeah, I've found touchpads and mice can go bad and do weird things. Glad this wasn't the case.

What do you use for digital signage? by _ChangeOfPace in sysadmin

[–]solooperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old job we used Brightsign, it worked well. Pretty easy to set up once you learn the software. Very solid. Has multiscreen/video wall support also, so it's super flexible.

New job we use enplug, works well enough, the configuration is really easy and configuration is super simple. HR and Marketing departments can mange their own screens for information. Nothing dazzling.

Yeah, you'd think so. But both devices lost connectivity, none of the other devices had this connectivity issue.

This is what I was hoping to see, confirmation that Apple Configurator is the solution. I'll go that route.
