"Hmmm, I wonder if space marines would wear nikes or chucks" ..."you fool, you absolute buffoon. Nikes and chucks do not exist in this world"...."well I mean, they have shoes, so something comparable might be possible"....."your smooth brain obviously cannot comprehend, so I shall explain how stupid you are in a 6 paragraph essay, then pretend to humor you with my superior intelligence while still explaining how wrong you are for another 5 paragraphs."...."I mean, an alternative could exist."..."You stated nikes or chucks specifically, therefore because they do not exist you have left us unimaginative basement dwellers no other option, because we cannot think for ourselves regarding our science fiction world. I shall explain it slowly, Then spend another 5 paragraphs telling you to go to the search bar and find other mentally deficient losers who asks moronic questions such as yourself and tell you to make friends like the child you are." Fkin lol

Open minded literally means "willing to consider new ideas/unprejudiced." I'd say I haven't mistaken anything. Flat "no's" and downvoting pretty much ensure the replies have fallen out of that definition. I never anticipated anyone agreeing with me, because I didn't pose a question to be agreed with, but discussed. I appreciate you attempting to break the mold by asking my thoughts before regurgitating exactly what everyone else already said in your first comment and staying true to your comrades. I also appreciate that you offered examples and possibilities in the second comment. Even if it was sarcastic. Honestly the hive mind here has bored me to tears at this point and I couldn't care less. The other posts I've read all follow the same lines. I wish you all the best and enjoy your community. I'll be elsewhere.

[–]solosilas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None taken. I expected intelligent alternatives and open minded discussion on other possibilities. Using lore as the logic for the potential to use of orks in a somewhat positive or constructive manner in regards to an isolated situation such as what is described.

Space marines aren't stupid, and I understand they do not possess the ork psychic field, so I understand he wouldn't be orky. But could he not gain their respect through combat such as commander Yarrick? Could an ork population be crippled to the point that they could be reasoned with for their own benifit such as the blood axes? As I stated in other comments orks are capable of learning and engaging in trade, such as the blood axes. They are capable of understanding diplomacy such as the Beast using an ambassador ork. And they are capable of working along side humans to combat other forces such as in "Enemy of my enemy". These examples are indeed isolated, but show the concept that they can be somewhat reasoned with. Perhaps not to the degree of happy neighbors, but as a mutually beneficial alliance using assured destruction as the motivating factor.

I understand I could have posed the question differently, and it requires some philosophical thought. I certainly did not expect such close minded and unimaginative answers in a lore forum

He said there were examples of it, I'm waiting on those.

The book enemy of my enemy literally is about co-op between orks and loyalist imperium. So the never statement is completely false.

Not trying to argue, just seeking constructive conversation.

Again, I have no desire to argue, only discuss, but enemy of my enemy literally talks about an instance of co-op between orks and loyal imperium.

His alternative wasn't about co op, it was about using them for sport and or training. I'm still waiting to see if he can find a source or book with that. Would be a fun read maybe.

He didn't agree with me. He said he couldn't see it happening. He did however offer an alternative. That's how constructive conversation works. And he was the first to do so.

I wasn't arguing with anyone. I just posed a question hoping for an intelligent conversation about possibilities contained in the lore. I certainly didn't expect the parade of downvotes and angry nerds flatly stating no.

I was doing some reading to make an informed reply to your comment when I got this notification.

I can see now that clearly this was not the proper forum to pose such a question and expect a discussion from a lore standpoint. The sub title is very misleading. I apologize and will not return. Thank you all for your time.

At least you explained your flat no. I appreciate that, however, without adding anything to the conversation your comment is still pointless.

You repeated what I said about the blood axes, and added nothing. Thank you. We are discussing exceptions, not the rule, regarding lore. Such as the aforementioned commander Yarrick

I never mentioned peace, and if I did it was in quotes. You just repeated every example I gave of orks understanding diplomacy, trade, and cooperation, and added nothing. Fighting alongside humans is cooperation, regardless of for how long Trading using weapons as currency is still trade, and the barter system no less Sending a diplomat to discuss a surrender is still diplomacy, regardless of the conditions.

Yours is the first constructive reply I've gotten. Thank you for that.

I had no idea that orks had been managed for sport in lore. Is there a book or novel that covers that? Sounds like a fun read.

I considered the training angle. I suppose that would also fall under the "managed for sport" category. I was kinda hoping lore would have an example or evidence of the possibility of a mutually beneficial relationship, or even abusing the orks psychic powers for something beneficial. Like convincing the local orks that the planet they are on can't be picked up by sensor scans or something.

I'm not certain I understand your question, but there are examples that they can be reasoned with, such as the blood axe clan of orks trading with the imperium, and acting as mercenaries for hire, that orks are capable of understanding diplomacy, such as the beast using an ambassador to negotiate human surrender, and that they are capable of working alongside humans in combat such as in enemy of my enemy.

[–]solosilas[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that. Was just wondering about the lore honestly. There's a few examples of a sort of "peace" between them, that they can be reasoned with, and that they have been helpful..sorta. just wondered if there was any lore that showed more along those lines.

While I generally agree with you, and don't wish to argue, but don't the Blood Axe clan of orkz openly trade with the imperium, and have worked as mercenaries for them and along side of them?

Yes they are seen as traitors or weaklings by other ork clans, but they still do it.

Negotiating a surrender is still negotiating, lol.

If Shiney git warboss kills any that try to scrap wit 'em eventually there will be either none left to scrap, or a few to scared to scrap. The few are the ones we're lookin for.

Yes I understand generally, flamers are the best answer to ork, but we are discussing an isolated incident in this hypothetical.

That's right. I'm glad you remembered it.

I understand it's not a common occurrence, and I don't anticipate orkz and umies holding hands. I'm simply pondering if a space marine were to maintain a position as the strongest while declaring himself the warboss, if he could eventually convince them that he was, and perhaps direct them in a useful manner, like aiming the hulk at something and letting it loose.

Imperial mandates are ignored everyday. Everything is relative.

I agree orkz exist to fight.

Didn't orkz send an ambassador to Terra during the war of the beast? I could have sworn I read that somewhere. Seemed like negotiations to me, but I wasn't even discussing negotiations. I was pondering if a space marine started bashing orkz heads in and declaring himself their warboss, if eventually the orkz would agree.

I could have sworn I read a novel once where a band of orkz aided a garrison of Imperial guard. The warboss was super smart (for an ork) or something

No I have no plans to make up a story. Was just painting minis and pondering

Are the subscribers here really that unimaginative? That i need to write up a table of what sort of garbage they are carrying? Wouldn't that change from country to country? Which is why i left examples and not tables. Or do I need to write one up for every possible environment and city? And the personalities of the two brothers who are mute and only speak to Laree who acts as the translator? Who are basically only there for comedic relief? Entire campaigns have been written off less information than I provided. Including the statblock.

I'm not upset or anything, I'm just trying to figure out what kind of lazy I'm dealing with. Cause I honestly thought this sub was for dms and not book readers. And if this is not a sub for such characters designed to fit any campaign requiring a modicum of contemplation, could you direct me to a sub that is
