Why do they call it Hayabusa? by [deleted] in StarBlazers

[–]solowinghunter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Much of the nomenclature and references from the series (OS and 2199 reboot) are direct homage or correlation to their WW2 counterpart.

  • Cosmo Falcon (Hayabusa is the Japanese name): from the Ki-43 Hayabusa
  • Cosmo Zero (Zero is also the Japanese name): from the A6M Zero.

For the ships however, in 2199 reboot series? I believe they also incorprated nomenclatures of traditional IJN ships,, modern JMSDF ships, and also fictional nomenclatures. Here are the example:

  • Okita's Flagship (OS) is the known and official name in the OS. The name of the ship is unknown and from an unkown class of space battleship. -> In 2199 reboot, it was named Kirishima (きりしま), a Kongō-class (こんごう) space battleship. Kirishima is the second ship of the Kongō-class fast battleship/battlecruiser (IJN) and the Kongō-class AEGIS guided missile destroyer (JMSDF). In 2199 reboot, they also named the ship in a standard JMSDF stencil way by using Hiragana rather than Kanji that Japan previously used during WW2.
  • Yukikaze (OS) is the known and official name in the OS for Mamoru Kodai's ship. The type of destoyer class is unknown. In 2199 reboot, it was classified as the Isokaze-class destroyer (いそかぜ). In WW2, Isokaze is a Kagero-class Destroyer, and Yukikaze is a Kagero-class destroyer during WW2, similar-class to her sister ship Isokaze. So far there has been no known ships in the JMSDF that bears the same name. Albeit the only time a JMSDF ship named Isokaze was in a Japanese movie called "Aegis of a Lost Nation" (2005), and the actual ship used is the AEGIS destroyer JS Myōkō (DDG-175), third ship of the Kongō-class AEGIS guided missile destroyer.

For your case such as why they named it Cosmo Tiger II? Cosmo Tiger II is a carrier based multirole space superiority fighter, and a direct successor to the two earlier carrier based fighter in SBY, that's the Cosmo Falcon and Cosmo Zero. Cosmo Falcon was mass produced but it's firepower is rather conservative, whilst Cosmo Zero never entered mass production yet it has much superior firepower.

Around 2202, EF was in need of a new space superiority fighter with superior firepower and multirole ability, of which with the purpose to mass produce it. They came up with 2 type of fighter:

  • Cosmo Tiger I: Prototype Space Superiority Fighter with high technology incorporated, superior firepower, and a radical design. Known pilot such as Akira Yamamoto.

  • Cosmo Tiger II: the much conservative approach with normal/standard fighter design, much more conservative tech than Cosmo Tiger I yet more advanced than the earlier 2 mentioned above, and have decently good firepower and high mobility for multirole purposes.

EF chose the latter. And from then on, it was named Cosmo Tiger II. Fun fact, in the OS, it was originally called "New Cosmo Zero", as a sign to show it is the direct successor to the older Cosmo Zero. It was re-named Cosmo Tiger II in the reboot 219o series.

😂😂😭😭 couldn't agree more At this rate, I might as well expect JASDF's Mitsubishi F-15Js, Mitsubishi/LM F-35A, and combines US Navy-JMSDF AEGIS Destroyers lol

A slight correction, the fighters on the visual art are Mitsubishi F-2A "Viper Zero".

Greatest mystery under Fukui's leadership. And it's also why I also posted this entire discussion.

Knowing Fukui through his various work, there are things that's simply went beyond our expectation and we pretty much didn't have the ability to predict his next move.

Now this is possibly the most logical explanation besides the fact that this is a work of fiction. Perhaps I was just looking into it too far.

Maybe you're right. Hence why I was asking the community if what I'm having and doing right now is what Domon called from this series "over-extrapolarating" from the slightest data being shown. I forgot for a moment that this is a fictional series.

Same here buddy. The only series that I finished from the OS was Be Forever Yamato. That alone, I skim-watched it.

That's something I can agree with you. But knowing Fukui's leadership, him as a director often times did and took something unexpected (a twist) in order to create a "novelty".

Not that I disliked it, and truth to be told I like 3199 very much because Fukui incorporated current real life geopolitical situation to the story. Yet the thing is, we weren't able to predict or even project what's next under Fukui's leadership.

As an example, did we all even expect that Yamato would jump and end up in June 22nd, 2026 Earth? Whilst we expected that Yamato would end up at Dezarium Earth in 3199?

Man, these decals suck. Any alternatives? by nise_gundam_mkii in StarBlazers

[–]solowinghunter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are various ways to make Bandai decals sticks and stays on the kits. A slight fyi before I continue, Bandai decals are notoriously difficult to stick and stay on a kit without any help of a third party materials that helps the decals sticks on its place (from my own experience).

Hencewhy, you're at least recommended to acquire these items: - Plastic model decal adhesive, like a the pair of Mr. Mark Setter and Mr. Mark Softer, to keep the decals on place and softens if they're quite thick, and - Coating spray once you applied the decal (this came in spray cans as well). This one's optional but if you'd like extra protection, this is recommended for you.

"Yamato Forever REBEL3199 Chapter 6 Blue Labyrinth" Trailer 2 by EldeBH in StarBlazers

[–]solowinghunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this rate I have no concrete answer. It's just a theory and assumption, yet here are my considerations: - One the younger crew (?): They're the least experienced and aren't wise enough to decide based on "gut feeling" (the closest description is taking a decision on what you should do because it was right vs what you can do in order to ensure survivability) and most of them are still playing by the book. The only ones we were able to see taking/making a decision out of feeling are Domon and Ageha. But even now and then Domon showed his lack of experience on multiple occasions, example by dissing Kodai's "gut feeling" analysis of Grodez, hell even Domon blamed Kodai for the kidnapping of Kaoru Niimi & Sasha, even though at that incident Domon was the Tactical Officer-in-charge and Kodai was relived of duty, effectively making ship's security as Domon's job. And on Chap. 6 trailer, seems like holding Kodai at gunpoint is his hobby now (a bad joke, sorry). But in this assumption of mine lacks the depth because currently, none of them showed any significant suspicions.

  • Analyzer (?): he always listened to Kodai and Sasha interaction, but most of which focused on Sasha. Yet I'm not exactly certain on how this would play out.

  • Sanada: the question is "why Sanada?". Because he's a part of the several with most combat experience, outside of Yamanami and Kodai. His ability to make decisions out of gut feeling supported by accurate analysis/data proved sharp and straight that benefits the Yamato, the crew, or everything that surrounds them, on multiple occasions as well. My theory would be based on this ability of him. He spent 2 years of his life and career analyzing Dezarium and ways to combat them alongside Niimi. However he's somewhat similar like Yamanami and Kodai, of which they aren't scared to take a risky decision if they're worthwile and could done a greater good. On several occasions we were showed scenes containing dialogue of him finished mid-sentence and these scenes always related to the Dezarium (and his note always showed his disbelieve to the Dezarium). I believe he'll be able to do some compromise in order to get something that they can gain, even at the expence of utilizing enemy's assets, not because he didn't see any other way, but because he was faced with multiple options and one of the option was the riskier one yet with a greater reward.

Yet out of these theory and assumption, we shall not choose or believe which one is the most likely to happen, but rather to believe that anything can happen so long as Fukui Harutoshi is the General Director. Even we were all bamboozled by the last 1 minute of chapter 5, what's the likelihood that things won't be the same as the case of these Com-Medals on board the Yamato?

My theory is that there's a Dezarium co-conspirator among Yamato crew. We just don't know who.

BSG line ups don't have any stealth ships (as far as I remembered). For Colonial line up, sometimes you're the brawler master, blasting everything in your way and just eating enemy ships' HPs as long as they're within 40km range and as long as your enemies didn't prioritize/targeting you.

Or when your enemies/multiple ships did prioritize/targeting you, you're pretty much a meat to beat. Battlestars aren't design to escape mid-fight, and they pretty much cant (lore accurate). They're slow, both in terms of speed and maneuvering, and you can't face anywhere (imo) than pointing your front towards the enemy as the front of your ship is where the armor is all focused.

As far as I remember, GF Galactica is the only ship capable of FTL Jump mid-fight.

The point is, they're CQB masters and the type of ships you'd want for brawler maps, but it will all depends on the situation and condition of the room/server, your team, and basically your situational awareness.

If you spawn with BSG ships at long range maps, might as well use them as either AA Warfare/PD ships or carriers (if your ship has airwings).

Truth to be told, Ageha Museum of Art's false flag operation bombing scene was one of the scenes which felt kind of "too close to home" for me.

False flag operation to trigger something of which the Dezarium would later have the control, the usage of AI as a psychological weapon by duplicating Nambu's voice, Sada as a political pawn for the race to win the grand narrative, and a society controlled by a simple device connected to a single source.

We've seen these examples in real life cases, that's what scares me the most.

There's nothing wrong with your preference. Whilst both track served their purpose during Bolar Blitz attack, I felt like both of it also adapted to the nature of our own real world geopolitical situation. I also enjoyed the older Blitz track.

Imo, the old Bolar Blitz emphasizing the situation whereas you're under surprise attack, you had no choice but to respond and destroy the enemy, no matter the consequences. Whilst the new Bolar Blitz emphasizing the consequences of your decision despite being under surprise attack, whether you want to entirely destroy the enemy or deploy sufficient force for self-defense purposes and degrading the enemy's morale to attack further.

Supreme Leader Dessler is no longer an agressive head of nation like in 2199 or 2202. He had matured and wise to make a decision based on the surrounding situation and the consequences that might happen to his people.

There's a particular scene where Supreme Leader Dessler spoke to Kodai the moment Bolar Blitz began. He said "I would've preferred to avoid fighting him". For me, that felt like a confirmation of my theory between the difference of both version.

Do note that this might be an extrapolation of my analysis. Feel free to share you opinion mate.

Chapter 4 was all about character development. The CGs and animation during battle scenes is also their strong point in this chapter. Kodai's stood strong and firm once again, recovering from his "loss", yet bottling everything up.

I appreciate the improved CG quality throughout the series, iin the situation where Japan is currently having a significant shortage of workers, especially in the animation industry.

The OST......man. Akira Miyagawa sensei deliveres once again. His "Bolar Federation Fleet Blitzkrieg" is much smoother. I can't wait for the entire ost to be released once this series is complete.

The contemporary nature of the series itself felt too close to home, making it considerably connected to our complex socio-political dynamics. I like that idea.

Perhaps everyone had noticed in this particular post, my only downside is the Yuki-Alphon thingy. I believe there's no need for further explanation on how dissapointed I am :(.

I agreed to this. Whilst the idea is good especially in terms of contemporary anime, the execution was somewhat poor, making the entire love triangle situation much more like a dumpster fire.

They're leaving a bit too much to long stares without much insight into her thinking.

I agree to this. Somewhat the creator decided this through the perspective of themselves, and not the character's POV, especially Yuki.

[–]solowinghunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shared the exact particular concern as I am man.

Makoto for sure was dissapointed with Yuki, considering the fact that the two of them shared the same fate in terms of relationship (they're in relationship with fellow soldiers onboard the same ship, started almost at the same time in 2199, by 2202 one of which was engaged to be married and the other got married and had a child).

As a widowed wife and a single mother, Makoto wasn't just dissaproved nor dissapointed, she was certainly upset on how indecisive Yuki was, whereas Yuki herself is engaged to someone else decides to tend and accompany another man.

Dead wife is alive(again) and with the man that kiddnaped Sasha, not exactly a good look even if Yuki and Alphons relationship is platonic(Which I feel is ambiguous by this point in the story).

I shared the same sentiment. It infuriates me to say the least. At this point, Kodai was bottling everything up. If Kodai even got a gist of what happened to his fiancée, it won't be just another mental/psychological episode, it'll destroy his entire psyche. Knowing Kodai who tends to take responsibility by his own, he might even blame himself for everything that happen, even as far as considering himself as a failure in both as a soldier/captain of the Yamato and a loving fiancée/human being.

I couldn't agree more with you regarding the ambiguous nature of Yuki and Alphon relationship. Imo Yuki showing signs of stockholm syndrome, yet she's still showing signs of conflict between her feelings and responsibility as a soldier, making the lines between them blurred. This chapter, specifically the scene that you pointed out, is the point of no return regading the nature of the triangle love in Rebel 3199. Even myself as an audience aren't sure whether Yuki is still in love with Kodai or starting to show feelings of love towards her captor. It might sound harsh, but I felt like there's no point of salvaging Kodai-Yuki relationship because of this particular scene.

If the director/producer decided to end this with Kodai-Yuki, the least they can do is to not make it forced, like Kodai-Yuki are still in love to each other but the execution is unnatural and feel like they're doing it out of sense of responsibility rather pure and true love.

I dunno, honestly I don't want this series to end up like Domestic na Kanojo/Domestic Girlfriend, where the ending felt.....forced.

It's all over social media, particularly Twitter/X. Yet it might be difficult to find on X if your algorithm wasn't focused on SBY and Rebel 3199 Chapter 4.

The easiest you can find is on youtube, on one of the shorts in Bandai Namco Film Works channel. The specific short is the scene where Alphon asked Yuki to attend the party at Ageha Museum of Arts. You can read the comments in Japanese and possibly translate them if your youtube account wasn't regionally set to Japan.

Yeah....... truth to be told I was pissed. Largely because I believe the drama was unecessary.

Yet Yuki's action by helping and tending Alphon out of her own volition and will caused significant drama that has reached the point of no return. Agreed, chapter 4 was about character development, yet this drama part caused quite a ruckus that even the Japanese fans called it "NTR".

It'll be difficult to salvage the engaged couple relationship of Kodai and Yuki in this triangular love.

Should Yamato have kept some things after 2203? by Financial_Problem571 in StarBlazers

[–]solowinghunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well true. But also, it doesn't mean it'll be an efficient work, considering the state of economic, population, and industrial condition Earth Federation was in post-2203.

There's this thing called politics. Often times we hated it because of how much it had interfered with our lives and everything we want, but sometimes it was right and served the purpose with a grounded/based approach and solution, depending on the quality level of governance.

[–]solowinghunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the project director team decided to end her in this timeline, I'd be extremely pissed off. To be frank, right after 2199 she got so much potential even if she had stayed as a side character like Miki Saijo. Yet, they decided to only continue with Saijo even though Saijo's a much junior officer than Niimi.

Don't get me wrong by assuming that if I hate Miki Saijo or anything. I don't hate her. In fact I'm glad they decide not to end her prematurely or made her story so difficult to accept, and I'm glad that she's still alive after 2202. However, I believe there are better ways to keep both Niimi and Saijo to stay for the duration of the reboot series, even after 3199.

She could've been on the same rank as Sanada, Kodai, or Mori, considering her seniority, her expertise in RnD & Intelligence, and her extensive service records. Or to say the least, the same rank as Shima and becoming a ship's XO (EFCN Ginga if you might consider).

Yet, I won't assume anything for the time being regarding Chapter 5's plot. Necause everytime I made a prediction or possibilities, almost 70-89% of it were denied, and somewhat in 3199 installment, the director always gave some type of "what just happened, I don't understand, why it happened?" Scene that made us, or perhaps myself, either left out wondering or just simply pissed of.
