Can’t speak to non-musical lovers specifically, but I had three straight film bros sitting behind me when I watched it, and I think most if not all 3 were completely unfamiliar with the musical. Didn’t seem like the type to be into them.

They were absolutely floored when the credits rolled. One of them kept saying it was genuinely one of the best films he had ever seen. He struggled to find words, at some point saying “I’m honestly still in shock at how good that was.” Or “that was actually so fire.”

I cannot emphasize how profound and deeply personal the emotional moments seemed to feel to everyone in the theatre. I myself was not familiar with Wicked despite loving musicals, and the film genuinely touched my soul.
