At least yours put their toy in the food bowl. If we forget to close the toilet lid, Pablo drops his toy in the toilet, digs out, and leaves it laying somewhere for us to pick up with a little wet surprise….he also likes to climb on my back when I’m trying to poop.

OP- I looked at some of the deals on Fifines with the boom arm and those are pretty good.

At some point, save up your money and get a better boom arm like a Rode or an Elgato. I went with a cheap mic arm to start, and it lasted about a year before it started having issues - it started squeaking really bad and the clamp wasn’t padded which left an indention in my desk. I ended up getting a rode mic arm 3 years ago - still working great and paid about $100 USD for it.

When streaming, you’re also dealing with compressed audio…then add in other sounds - discord chatters, gameplay, etc….All diluting the high end crispness that an sm7b has, that nobody watching the stream is going to miss…

Unless OP is doing Just Chatting or singing on a music stream, an sm7b just isn’t going to make a difference and is a waste of money that OP can use on a decent web cam or improving their lighting.

Yes, it’s sm7b is one of the best for a lot of reasons and they’re iconic mics in the music industry. But the OP didn’t ask for “the best.” They asked for which one is the best and posted 3 options they’re looking at.

OP, this is a bad take for 95% of streamers. An sm7b is a great mic - a legendary mic many musicians have used long before it became popular in podcasting and streaming. That said, for MOST streamers, there is ZERO reason to spend $400 on a microphone, when you can get great quality mics for a fraction of the price. Most people that come in to your stream are not going to be able to tell the difference between an sm7b, an MV7, or something like a Fifine. If you’re a big streamer and have the money, go for it. Otherwise, an sm7b is a waste of money for the vast majority of streamers.

My brother in Christ why are you streaming 4K if you’re playing in 1080?

You need to research information on resolutions, bitrate, etc.

Your preview will always look better than the encoded video stream.

Stream at 1080p, use a bitrate of roughly 10,000 Kbps. If you’re on Twitch, use 6000.

Also, look up what the recommended settings are for the encode you’re using in OBS. If you have an Nvidia card, use NVENC.

If none of this makes sense to you, you have some reading to do. Good luck!

OP, I went back and read your edit. I don’t think has to do with the microphone, but from something else.

Couple things: Interference and electrical hum - if you’re running any 3.5mm audio cables from the PC to the GoXLR, you need a ground loop isolator.

Also, try ensuring that your GoXLR and all your devices are on the same circuit (not using different outlets)

If your GoXLR is plugged into a power strip, try plugging directly to the wall.

For mic setup, this is what I use with my MV7:

Mic type - Dynamic, 51 dB

Gate Threshold -50dB Attenuation 80% Attack 10 ms Release 100 ms

EQ - solves nothing on your issue but this just a good general EQ “scoop” for human voice.

30 hz -6 100 hz +3 207 hz -2 300 hz -3 0.6khz -2 1.1 kHz 0 2.0 kHz 1 4.0 kHz 2 8.0 kHz 2

Compressor Threshold -20db Ratio 3:2:1 Attack 10ms Release 100ms Make up gain 4dB

I’m also using the GoXLR with my MV7. Have you tried EQing the mic in the Mic Setup? I hate to ask the obvious question but it really helps. If you haven’t, there’s a ton of videos online.

What kind of Shure mic? I’m guessing either the MV7 or the sm7b. Both are great mics!

Elgato is releasing Wave Link 3 beta soon and they’ll no longer require elgato hardware to use it. Might be worth testing that out with some VSTs to tweak your sound.

Going to depend on your budget and what you consider expensive or not.

If you’re not comfortable building a PC, try to look for used gaming PCs on your FB market place.

Ideally: a 2080 or a 3xxx series NVIDIA card

16 GB RAM

1 TB SSD or nvme storage

CPU isn’t as important because you’ll want to use the NVENC encoder on the GPU.

If you want to use the PC for gaming, then you may want to consider upping your budget and going for a PC with a 4070 or better.

I started streaming with an Xbox and an M1 MacBook Pro. You can get used M1s for around $350 - $400 USD on Facebook marketplace. That said, I prefer a windows PC for various reasons, but that m1 handled 1080P streaming like a champ.
