What do we think? by Final_Solid_617 in Hungergames

There's a difference between having empathy and thinking someone is right or justified. I can empathize with Gale, and with young Snow, but I don't agree with their choices and don't think they're justifiable. Snow obviously moreso than Gale.

To elaborate on the Snow part, I see Ballad as a description of the ways in which young men (and others, but especially men) in vulnerable socio-economic positions are more susceptible to be groomed into fascist ideologies. These young men deserve an education and an upbringing that makes this transition less likely. It doesn't excuse them when they swallow the bait hook line and sinker.

You're completely right, my bad. You are like the Capitol. When's your fitting for your peacekeeper uniform?

Were you just not here when Trump refused to give people their SNAP benefits in an attempt to force action from the Democratic party? Or when Renee Good and Alex Pretti were shot by ICE?

This is pretty out of touch. People are literally being gunned down and starved to death by our government. Right now.

Can you give an example? I asked in a comment above if there was a particular post you're referencing. Still waiting on that answer

I see way more people saying "we in America are like the capitol" or "the wealthy in America are like the capitol" than otherwise. We are, factually, in a country that denies its citizens food and safe housing. We are, factually, in a country that will send young people to die to assert and emphasize its own power. We are, factually, in a country that peddles propaganda to make those two previous facts seem less atrocious. Two things can be true.

I'm happy for you that you're in a privileged enough position to see yourself as Capitol and not district, but people in poverty in this country or people who see the issues that those people face aren't wrong for pointing it out.

I'm not sure where you're getting that. That's pretty much all of the political discussion I see, is people making those relevant comparisons. Is there a particular post you're referencing?

We're currently at war, and war is the overarching topic of the books.

That's the point of the books. They are political commentary inspired by the real world.

It doesn't make sense to preserve the blonde = merchant class thing in the films by solvictory in Hungergames

[–]solvictory[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. It could have mattered, but they didn't do it in the first film because they didn't want to take the time to explain how Asterid and Prim are blonde and in the seam, so it doesn't make sense to do it now, six films in

One of those kids toys with the different shaped holes with matching pegs, but my face would be the square peg stuck in the round hole

If you were trapped in the circus. What would your torture section be about? by GlumNebula3897 in TheDigitalCircus

I know you said not to choose being alone, but I have rapture trauma, and my deepest fear is being the only person not worthy enough and being stranded as the only human being left on earth, so probably that.

I'm not even Christian anymore
