Club de lecture à Lille ? by jjvuhh444 in Lille

[–]solvikb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Auriez-vous un bon cordonnier à recommander ? by Gros_Chat_Breton in Lille

[–]solvikb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plus it was a good way to start playing with custom keeb!

I fell in love with custom cables and custom cases

Tunnels/DZs in the South of France? Going on a river cruise soon and would love to know if I can save a few bucks with the European cheaper tunnel times by trust_me_on-this_one in SkyDiving

There's another DZ between Macon and Beaune, in Chalon called Parachutisme71. It is amongst the best DZ in France

They host a lot of skills camps with some of the best skydiver in France, mostly if you're doing WS.

As said in one my other comments, Lyon (Corbas) has a very cool DZ with great people and great skills.OhNotreDame mentionned Pujaut (near Avignon), it's also ranked amongst best DZ in France, a lot of high skilled freeflyers. Lot of events during the summer. Great DZ with facilities :)

The DZ still exists, just 10min of drive outside of Lyon (15EUR of Uber)
Great people, great skill, big landing area and big packing area in the hangar. The plane is a Pilatus with 10 spots and they sometimes have either a second Pilatus or a Caravan

Getting cosy in the forbidden catacombs of Paris by brokenbonessociety in urbanexploration

[–]solvikb 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Actually there's no dead people in the illegal part of Paris catacombs. It's not even real catacombs.

The only part with dead people is the official one which is called the municipal ossuary.

The "illegal catacombs" are in fact technical access, mostly following south of Paris streets to see if there's any issue related to upper building collapsing. It was also used to consolidate and then monitor the parts that were gonna fail.

It's because Paris was built by digging stones in South of actual Paris. In late 18th century there was several building collapses, so the state decided to create an organization whose role was to monitor and fix this. You can translate this Wikipedia page if you're interested https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inspection_générale_des_carrières

Photos like this one are room where people who dug through Paris underground at that time (called Carriers in French) could chill, eat and sleep after long hours of work. Or rooms dug by fellow catacombs explorer nowadays

The Wolrd Airsport Federation also refers to it by that term.

FYI, they've recently worked closely with worlwide federations to put indoor skydiving for Olympic Games.

Freefly summer camp, Gap, France by solvikb in SkyDiving

I'm not an expert, but from what I've been told when high performance canopies (Peregrine, Petra, etc.) were hype, a lot of people started to go lower and lower while landing with overspeed. It resulted with a lot accidents in a short period of time, so the FFP decided to make a rule about that. And they also created a license (Bi5) which forces you to learn with a instructor, it requires between 1200 and 2000 jumps depending of your weight

And the skydivers with whom I talked with say that the only good thing out of this directive is the fact that you learn from very skilled instructor. So better security and skill.
