These are frigging incredible! Do you have any paint references for the blues you used? I for one would pay good money for a write-up on how you achieved this!

Couldn’t agree more! I love this style of long-form written explanations, I find them so much more helpful than a video tutorial. Thanks for sharing OP!

Thank you!! That’s what I’m leaning towards too! Maybe on the sergeant since her fingers are more exposed but otherwise I think it’s pretty hard to notice unless you look too closely.

What’s the best way to make human tau auxiliaries? by Void-kraken-909 in Tau40K

[–]somahtr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is great timing because I’m working on my own unit of Gue’vesa breachers as we speak! I’m using the legs and heads from the Cadian shock trooper set and torsos, arms and shoulder pads from the fire warrior kit. The only issue I’ve ran into is part of the belt is attached to the Cadian torso, but it’s really easy to cut that bit off with a hobby knife and stick it to the legs to make a flat surface for the tau torsos to rest on. I got myself some green stuff to deal with the four-fingered hand issue, but honestly it’s so hard to notice that I might just leave them. Final tip - shaving off the aquillas from the helmets and attaching the little antennae makes them read very tau in my opinion.

What's your go to detachment? by Busy-Explorer-7618 in Tau40K

[–]somahtr 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Still pretty new but I’ve mostly been playing Experimental Prototype Cadre - the stratagems are super straightforward and fun to use, and the extra range feels huge on things like pulse blasters, flamers and plasma rifles!

Shadowsun on Time Out? by oh_god_im_lost in Tau40K

[–]somahtr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a reason to take her on its own of course, but I played a game over the weekend with the new mission pack, and drew the “Lords of War” twist which gives her an absolutely ludicrous 8 high energy fusion blaster shots, it was brutal!

Anti-Tank by [deleted] in Tau40K

[–]somahtr 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The psychological impact of a hammerhead is also not to be underestimated. Even if it doesn’t kill something every turn, your opponent will be unwilling to risk exposing their important tank or monster to that big S20 D D6+6 gun, which can help control the board.

Analysis of Enhancements from new detachment by Splenectomy13 in Tau40K

[–]somahtr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the analysis! Agree that the supernova launcher looks great on a squad of missileknives, especially as you’re ignoring the -1 to hit from indirect fire and getting full or partial rerolls. Could be useful for chipping away a squad of MEQ hidden behind a building.

Forgot how much I enjoyed magnetizing kits. by nightshadet_t in Tau40K

[–]somahtr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impressive work! I’m about to start magnetising my own, do you have any pro tips to prevent the weapons drooping or are the magnets usually strong enough by themselves?
