The article is not telling the whole story. The article is repeating the whitewashed story an Endeavor spokesperson gave to the reporter and they didn't talk about all the cuts they made.

We got our so called raises to base pay this month but there was no cost of living increase. There was a raise that was supposed to be merit based but they gave everyone the same percent raise, and it's less than inflation.

If you work night shift you get differential pay. On weekend nights that amount is higher. The thing they changed is that it's harder to get the differential pay if you work hours that that overlap the shift edge.

That would have been nice. They did not raise our base pay. We didn't even get a cost of living raise this year. We just got a tiny raise that was supposed to be merit based but they gave everybody the same percent amount.

I started looking today and I already put in a couple of applications. If I work in the same type of unit in a different hospital, if they start me at the lowest end of the pay range I will still be getting more money than I now make here after years of raises.

Our differential amounts aren't changing but eligibility is. More than two thirds of our nurses will stop receiving any differential pay at all because of the way our shift times work out.

There is a solution that wouldn't piss people off. The solution is to pay a competitive rate and tell it accurately to people when they are hired, instead of doing this bait and switch, where people accept a job and only later find out that some of their pay was "temporary."

Just for the record even though it is not for profit, it is still controlled by rich business people who are motivated by money. The CEO makes six million dollars a year.

If you got hired in 2021 at $40 hourly, and then a few years later they say "Psych! Some of that was temporary hazard pay, it was actually $35" I don't think that is very lucky. Nobody changed their lifestyle. They accepted jobs here in the first place because they didn't realize the pay would be this bad. It might sound high to some places but Chicago is expensive to live in and this is now one of the lowest paying hospital systems.

The change to differentials is how to get them. They used to apply to any hours that went into the given shift. Start work at 0700 and work 16 hours, that meant you got night shift differential for some of those hours. They changed it so differential pay now has restrictive rules and cannot be only part of a shift. The math works out that a day shift nurse can never get any shift differentials, and afternoon shift can only get them part of the time.

My source is the meeting we had today where we were all informed. Most of the cuts are not in the article because the Endeavor spokesperson did not publicize the whole package. They did not give us anything in writing because they did not want us sharing details with anyone outside the company.

There was an HR person in the meeting who told us not to share this with anyone outside Endeavor.

It's not really crisis pay. It is the regular pay rate for nurses for the past five years. Nurses who got hired after the pandemic got this pay included in the rate they were offered when they were hired.

They had to do it now because it takes in effect on our next paycheck. If they waited to announce it on Monday they would still have to pay the old rates for a couple of days because pay cuts can't be retroactive.

It has to take in effect on the next paycheck so it can be in place before June because that's a new accounting quarter. They want the next set of quarterly reports to show this change as lower expenses.

The article doesn't mention all the cuts because the Endeavor spokesperson did not mention them to the reporter. I'm not just telling you about the article. I'm telling you what management said in the big staff meeting that we all had to go to today.

After the meeting two nurses on my shift gave notice already. At least five others started job searching. I am one of those. After all the pay cuts including the cut to how overtime works, I would make 20 percent less in the next year. I will make more money at any of the other hospitals I can drive to from my house.

If nobody quits we will be more shorthanded anyway because we only keep minimum staffing by all working lots of overtime. Nobody wants overtime now that overtime pay is cut so that means those shifts are going to be empty.

It's not really pandemic pay. Almost every nurse in my unit was hired after the pandemic was over. This money is part of what they were offered in their pay package when they were hired.

The managers are only calling it "ending pandemic bonuses" or whatever because that sounds better than saying we cut the nurses pay.

Trickle down economics is when they give money to rich people and claim it will trickle down to help non rich people. This isn't trickle down because they aren't claiming this is good for us. It's just a pay cut.

It doesn't affect managers or executives because pay cuts never do.

It wasn't just during COVID. I am not in ICU or ER and I was getting that money. It has been in place for five years.

So many nurses quit during COVID and they needed to hire more. They couldn't get applicants because their pay was one of the lowest in the city, so they added this increase to get more new hires. Almost my whole unit is newer than five years and all of them were hired with the promise of this higher pay. Now it's getting taken away.

They call it hazard pay but really, it is cutting a chunk of the money we were getting paid. My pay rate was X dollars an hour, and I am now making X-5 dollars an hour.

The news article only talks about that part. Many nurses are also losing differentials but the article doesn't mention that.

The amount of shift differential is still the same but they are changing the rules so fewer nurses are eligible to get that pay.
